Brandon Buchanan, City Manager City of Woodinville 17301 133rd Avenue NE Woodinville, WA 98072

Dear Brandon,

FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT" FOR HEALTHY LIVING FOR SOOAL RESPONSIBILITY

2015 was another successful year operating The Y at the Carol Edwards Center. Through the Y's programs, we provide the opportunity to children, families, adults and seniors to achieve their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body.

Through youth sports, school aged child care and summer camp programs we teach team work, fair play, love of learning, good sportsmanship, core values. In all Y programs, we develop foundational building blocks that gives kids the tools that they need to thrive and succeed. The Carol Edwards Center offers a safe and convenient place for families in our community.

Our Y has seen a significant increase in inquiries for additional licensed infant care and preschool programs. We would like to explore options to use additional space at the Carol Edwards Center to accommodate additional programs for our communities.

A small but growing number of people in our community live at, or below, the poverty level (as defined by the school districts free and reduced lunch program). The Y, in partnership with the Northshore Community Kitchen, provides free meals and snackpacks to children and teens throughout the school year. Meals are prepared, packaged and delivered from the Carol Edwards Center each week. The kitchen facilities are central in our community and provide for food preparation, storage and refrigeration areas.

The Y's health and wellness programs create a community of members who seek to maintain or regain feelings of health and well-being, prevent diabetes and heart disease. For our active older adults, the Y's wellness programs help ensure good health, provide a social outlet and keep seniors active into their later years.

------------------------------

The Y and EvergreenHealth have expanded our partnership to include direct physician referrals for programs that help members who have experienced chronic diseases including multiple sclerosis, diabetes, cancer, Parkinson's and heart disease. Many of these programs are offered at the Carol Edwards Center.

I'm pleased to send the City of Woodinville this annual report to on the work we do through The Y at the Carol Edwards Center. Thank you again for your partnership with the Y. You help strengthen our community and improve the lives of our residents. If you have questions, please give me a call at the Y at 425.318.8000.

Sincerely,

Dave Kretsinger Regional Executive Director

OVERVIEW

Northshore YMCA Report to the City of Woodinville

Carol Edwards Center February 2016

The Northshore YMCA is one of our community's leading nonprofit organizations strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The mission of the Y is to build a community where all people, especially the young, are encouraged to develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body.

Youth Development • Through the Y, children, teens and young adults of all backgrounds develop the

character traits and skills essential for success. • Kids learn and thrive through child care, summer camp and educational programs to

prevent summer learning loss and enhance English language skills. • Teens benefit from sports, academic enrichment and leadership training. • Young adults are strongly supported in pursuing post-secondary education goals and

exploring career options through internships and training.

Healthy Living • People of all ages and abilities improve their health and well-being through a wide

variety of group exercise classes, state-of-the-art equipment, nutrition consultations and guidance from trained lifestyle coaches.

• Families build healthy lifestyles together through parent/child programs and other recreational activities and events.

• Children and adults at risk of chronic diseases and conditions like diabetes, multiple sclerosis, cancer and obesity find the guidance and support they need to establish healthy behaviors through evidence-based programs.

Social Responsibility • Financial assistance empowers our neighbors to pursue their potential through Y

programs like summer camp, facility membership and child care. • Hundreds of volunteer opportunities with the Y, such as coaching, fundraising and

teaching, connect diverse groups of people. • Teens and adults participate in global leadership training and service learning, such

as the Y's volunteer program to help restore communities impacted by natural disasters.

Programs to Support Better Health Through the Y's health and wellness programs, we help adults improve their physical and mental health in group exercise programs. In addition, programs for seniors help keep them connected in a social network to stave off feelings of isolation and loneliness. The Y is also expanding work into diabetes prevention, chronic disease intervention and obesity prevention.

This past year, the Y had more than 48,161 visits at the Carol Edwards Center. More than 64 percent of those were residents of the City of Woodinville.

Future Direction The increased growth in the student population at schools in Woodinville, specifically Kokanee Elementary School, has resulted in the loss of one of our after-school child care sites. In 2015, we moved our after school child care program from Kokanee to the Carol Edwards Center. This arrangement is working for our children and our staff and we would like to explore options to expand our preschool programs at The Y at the Carol Edwards Center in 2016.

Through our partnership with EvergreenHealth, we are exploring additional programs and services that we can offer, such as exercise programs for Parkinson's patients, cancer survivors, diabetes prevention programs and post-cardiac rehab exercise.
