Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, People of Our Lady, Mother of the Church Parish, Do you fall in love with fall? I think we prefer to have in our lives much more autumn than fall. Even if we wish each other happy fall, we really do not wish to have any in our lives. Autumn is here! The beautiful scenery of nature becoming yellow, gold, orange, and red helps us to reflect on the past. Passing time is a test of our declarations. Two broth-ers in today’s gospel passage declared obedience and disobedience. Both were quick in their response to the father and both quickly changed their minds. One change was a fall, the other was a right decision. God is the One who looks for a good change in our lives. There is always something we can improve. He supports us with His grace.

A week ago, we enjoyed Oktoberfest at OLMC with good enter-tainment, tasty meals, and energizing atmosphere. It was a suc-cessful fundraiser for our parish as well. I would like to thank the Parish Council which took care of organizing and running the event. This coming Saturday at 12:10 p.m. under the canopy, by the main church door, there will be a special blessing for pets of all species on the occasion of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. He is the patron saint who showed us animals are a companion given by God. The beauty of autumn reminds us also about colder days coming soon. Saint Vincent DePaul Society of our parish is having a coat

drive next weekend. Especially after all the terrible hurricanes and earthquakes, many charitable organizations are running low on resources. Let us help in this

drive with generous hearts. On Sunday, October 8 we will celebrate a Mass in Polish at 1 o’clock. All are invited. In two weeks is our bus pilgrimage to the Shrine of Christ’s Passion in St. John, Indiana. Tickets are available after Masses and in the rectory. More details are available in this bulletin.

May God bless you,

Fr. Andrew

Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement

We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we believe that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, comforts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist, the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace... to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the persecuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved… to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...

Autumn has arrived !!! I can’t say “Fall” because many of us are of the age that FALL is a dirty and frightening word. (To quote a Priest I know). As we observe the Season change, let us get together and begin, or continue, to change ourselves through Walking with Jesus. Beginning Wednesday, October 11h at 6:00pm we will meet at Our La-dy, Mother of the Church (Lawrence street entrance) to pray, walk and watch the changing of the leaves on the trees. This session will last for six weeks. The goal would be to walk 2000 steps (four to five times around the lot). Just a small stretch of the legs. Resting in between laps is appropriate if needed. By doing so, you may strengthen your mus-cles, lower your blood pressure or even lose a few pounds. Whether you can be with us each Wednesday or only a few, please join us. All are Welcome!

Peace, Terri, RN
