Please Join Us On October 12th and 13th!

The Annual Parish Ministry Fair at St. Michael’s will be held before and after all the Saturday and Sunday Masses (excluding the 12:00 Noon Sunday Mass) of the October 12-13 Weekend. The fair will include displays and tables staffed by members of all of our parish ministries who will be providing infor-mation about their ministry’s work, brochures, and answers to your questions. Those who are interested in learning more, receiving a follow-up phone call, exploring the possibility of receiving ministry services (for example: Holy Communion brought to a loved one who is hospitalized or homebound), and/or be-coming a ministry volunteer (for example: lector, usher, choir member, catechist, altar server, etc.) will be able to leave their name and contact information with the ministry representatives at the tables. The Ministry Fair will provide you with a chance to consider and discern ways that you can be more fully involved in the life of our parish and utilize your talents, skills, and time to assist and serve parish and community, as well as consider new/additional ways through which the Holy Spirit might be calling you to share of yourself and your God-given talents.

Through the gifts of time and talent that our pa-rishioners so generously share we are able to truly be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in our parish and community. May the Holy Spirit continue to inspire and guide our ministries and volunteers and call oth-ers to join in this unique way of living the Gospel message through service to our parish family.

St. Michael’s and our neighboring parishes of the Diocesan Cohort 17 are sponsoring a Blood Drive! The blood drive will take place Saturday, October 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the registra-tion desk, medical history desks, and hospitality stations “under the tent” on the front lawn of the church and the blood donation stations in the Lower Church.

A donation of blood goes a long way in respond-ing to Jesus’ call for spiritual works of mercy and corporal acts of sacrifice, love, and charity. Sign-up sheets will be available at all of the Masses next weekend. Thank you to all who plan on participat-ing.

Important Facts about Blood Donations: 1. Just one pint of donated blood can help save as many as three people’s lives. 2. Every three seconds someone needs blood. 3. One out of every 10 people entering a hospital needs blood.

A Few Good

Reasons For Becoming An Extraordinary

Eucharistic Minister

1. Provide an important and vital service to those who are unable (due to age, illness, or other infir-mity) to attend Mass and receive Holy Communion.

2. Perform a corporal work of mer-cy (“visit the sick”). Perform a spiritual work of mercy (“comfort the afflicted”). “Whatsoever you do for the least of my brothers and sisters, you do for Me.” (Matthew 25:40)

3. Be a channel – an instrument – of God’s peace. Remember the Prayer of St. Francis: “Where there is despair, let ME bring hope.”

4. The wonderful and holy gift of the Eucharist, which is the greatest

gift of all from God to mankind – the body and blood, the soul and divinity of Jesus Himself – demands that such an important sacrament and its saving pow-er be more fully shared. The hospital-ized are often in need of spiritual heal-ing and spiritual well-being as much as they are in need of physical and medical healing. The Blessed Sacrament is a means to that end and you can be God’s instrument in helping to achieve that purpose. Jesus tells us, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forev-er; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” (John 6:51)

5. Share your talents and your time – the gifts that God has generously shared with you in the first place.

6. Be a channel – an instrument – of God’s peace. Remember the Prayer of St. Francis: “Where there is darkness, let ME bring light.”

7. By means of your participation in this ministry, grow in your own knowledge of, reverence for, and love of the Blessed Sacrament.

8. Be of service to the Church, your parish, your neighbor, and your commu-nity. Be engaged in parish life. “…to serve and not to be served.” (Mark 10:45) 9. Be a channel – an instrument – of God’s peace. Remember the Prayer of St. Francis: “Where there is sadness, let ME bring joy.”

10. Lead others by your example of faith, service, and charity. Recommend to others that they, too, actively partici-pate in the life of the Church and the life of the Parish by serving as the bearers of

the Body of Christ to the hospi-talized and the homebound. The day may come when you yourself or a loved one will be on the re-ceiving end of this Eucharistic ministry.

11. Be the eyes and ears of the parish priest by helping to identi-fy the hospitalized Roman Catho-lics who may be in need of or desirous of Sacramental Confes-sion and/or the Sacrament/Anointing of the Sick and by helping to facilitate the priest’s bringing of those sacraments to the hospitalized.

12. Be a channel – an instrument – of God’s peace. Remember the Prayer of St. Francis: “It is in giving of ourselves that we re-ceive.”

(continued from above) to become involved in this im-portant work and act of charity and mercy. The appeal included a request that everyone take the message to heart and pray over it and respond, if possible, this weekend or in the very near fu-ture. Sign-up sheets will be in the rear of the church again this weekend. Please prayerfully consider becoming an Eucharis-tic Minister and being the face, the hands, the feet, the voice, and the smile of Jesus to those desir-ing Holy Communion in the hos-pital. May God bless you.

Update & Follow-Ups

Last weekend during homi-ly time at all Masses we heard about the urgent need for new volunteers to come forward and become Extraordinary Eu-charistic Minsters and assist with bringing Holy Commun-ion to Catholic patients at Monmouth Medical and else-where. The response to that appeal has been very good. The door is still open for more

October 18, 19, & 20: Respect Life Weekend at St. Michael's

The month of October is Respect Life Month in the United States. Throughout the month of October, we will raise awareness about (and promote) the sanctity, value, and dignity of hu-man life as a precious gift from God. Every person is created by God in His own image and likeness (Genesis 1:27). Therefore, we ought to respect the life of the human person from con-ception until natural death. St. Michael's will be observing Respect Life Weekend on October 18, 19, & 20 and we have lined up the following activities for that weekend:

•Learn about the Respect Life Ministry from our parish's Respect Life Ministry representatives, who will be speaking from the pulpit at all Masses that weekend; sign up to join the ministry.

•Sign up to participate in the "40 Days for Life" Prayer Vigil to pray for an end to abortion; for the souls of abort-ed infants; for healing for those who have had abortions; for those who are affected by abortions; and for the con-version of those working in the abortion industry.

•Show your support for the Respect Life Ministry and their cause by purchasing NJ Right to Life raffle tickets.

•Join us for pizza and movie night on Friday, October 18 at 6:15 p.m. and on Sunday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. to watch the movie "Unplanned" in the Lower Church.

Let us continue to respect and protect God's precious gift of human life from its begin-ning in the womb until its final breath and at every stage in between.

Aid For The Hearing Impaired

We offer the use of radio aids during Mass upon request. The device is tuned to the sound system in the Church so that those who have a hearing deficit might hear more clearly. Please ask an usher for assis-tance.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! Many of our troops are still deployed. There is a com-plete list of most needed items in the back of the church. Monetary donations towards shipping costs are accepted. Checks may

be made payable to Eagles Up. A tax receipt can be pro-vided upon request.

PRAYERS FOR THE SICK OF THE

PARISH This is a list of parishioners, rela-tives, and friends who are in need of our prayers for healing. Our Rosarians also pray every Saturday for all the parishioners of St. Michael’s. Please note that intentions will be listed for two months and then removed, unless the

requestor calls to renew for another two months. Please also note that according to the HIPPA & privacy laws only the sick themselves or family members may request to be added to the list. Contact the Parish Office for all prayer requests. Thank you and may Our Lord grant healing to all

those who are suffering and in need of our prayers.
