    LUKE 13:1-9 (NRSV)

1 At that very time there were some presentwho told him about the Galileans whose bloodPilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 Heasked them, Do you think that because theseGalileans suffered in this way they were worsesinners than all other Galileans? 3 No, I tellyou; but unless you repent, you will all perishas they did. 4 Or those eighteen who werekilled when the tower of Siloam fell on them do you think that they were worse offendersthan all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 No, Itell you; but unless you repent, you will all

perish just as they did. 6 Then he told thisparable: A man had a fig tree planted in hisvineyard; and he came looking for fruit on itand found none. 7 So he said to the gardener,See here! For three years I have come lookingfor fruit on this fig tree, and still I find none.Cut it down! Why should it be wasting thesoil? 8 He replied, Sir, let it alone for onemore year, until I dig around it and put manureon it. 9 If it bears fruit next year, well andgood; but if not, you can cut it down.

    ACTS 4:1-13 (NIV)

1 The priests and the captain of the templeguard and the Sadducees came up to Peter andJohn while they were speaking to the people. 2They were greatly disturbed because theapostles were teaching the people andproclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of thedead. 3 They seized Peter and John, andbecause it was evening, they put them in jailuntil the next day. 4 But many who heard themessage believed, and the number of men grewto about five thousand. 5 The next day therulers, elders and teachers of the law met inJerusalem. 6 Annas the high priest was there, and so were Caiaphas, John, Alexander and theother men of the high priest's family. 7 They

had Peter and John brought before them andbegan to question them: "By what power orwhat name did you do this?" 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them:

"Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we arbeing called to account today for an act ofkindness shown to a cripple and are asked hhe was healed, 10 then know this, you and athe people of Israel: It is by the name of JesChrist of Nazareth, whom you crucified butwhom God raised from the dead, that this mstands before you healed. 11 He is " 'the stoyou builders rejected, which has become thecapstone. 12 Salvation is found in no one elfor there is no other name under heaven givto men by which we must be saved." 13 Wh

they saw the courage of Peter and John andrealized that they were unschooled, ordinarymen, they were astonished and they took nothat these men had been with Jesus.

    6:00 p.m.

    LUKE 24:13-21 (NIV)

13 Now that same day two of them were goto a village called Emmaus, about seven mi

from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking witheach other about everything that had happen15 As they talked and discussed these thingwith each other, Jesus himself came up andwalked along with them; 16 but they were kfrom recognizing him. 17 He asked them,"What are you discussing together as you walong?" They stood still, their faces downca18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him"Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and doknow the things that have happened there inthese days?" 19 "What things?" he asked."About Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "Hwas a prophet, powerful in word and deedbefore God and all the people. 20The chiefpriests and our rulers handed him over to besentenced to death, and they crucified him;21 but we had hoped that he was the one whwas going to redeem Israel. And what is moit is the third day since all this took place.

    MENTAL HEALTH MONTH

    IMMABASI HEALTH AND

    WELLNESS MINISTRY

    OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE

    DISORDER

    Obsessive Compulsive Disorders(OCD)

are anxiety disorders. More than 19

    million Americans suffer from anxiety

    disorders. Typical compulsions include:

excessive washing (particularly handwashing or bathing), cleaning, checking

    and repetitive actions like touching,

    counting, arranging, ordering and

    hoarding.

Symptoms can be crippling resulting in

hospitalization. On the other hand, many

successful doctors, lawyers, engineers, educators, entertainers and people from all

walks of life continue to function despite

    symptoms of OCD.

OCD improves with treatment. For more

information, contact: The Alliance for the

Mentally Ill, NAMI of Greater Chicago,

    We NEED You!

Your pastor, your church and the entire

Media Department of Trinity UnitedChurch of Christ need you to spread the

    word!

For well over ten years, Trinity provide

    the Chicagoland viewing audience with

one full hour of power. For well over te

years, members of this church, friends o

Trinity and many, many others wereblessed to get the genius of Rev. Dr.

Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. We were blesse

and provided ministry to be a blessing t

    several thousands in the Chicagoland

    viewing area.

We thank God for all who watched us a

worshiped with us during that period oftime. As we all know, however, to

everything there is a time and a season.

The season has changed. We were bless

to have faithful viewers during the WJY

season. As faithful as our viewers were,

however, their viewing did not generate

    any revenue.

Your church spent well over two millio

dollars airing that prime time Monday

night worship service. Within those ten

years, two million dollar expense, we di

not generate one-tenth of the expense in

revenue. Our viewers failed to plant a seed

in this ministry. They failed to purchase

the sermons or support the ministry of the

church financially. Life was made veryeasy for the viewers, as they taped the

services and sermons, week in and week

    out.

Because we are blessed to have Dr. Wright

as our pastor, and so many others across

the globe long to be blessed by the

messages God gives him, we remainedprayerful for ten years. Our prayer was for

God to lead us to minister, at least

    nationally, in Gods own time.

As the ministry of Dr. Wright grew,

preaching and lecturing 40+ weeks out of

each year in all areas of the world, more

people outside of these walls called TrinityUnited Church of Christ constantly prayed

and asked why they could not get Dr.

Wright on any of their religious broadcast

    programming. Several others began

working on securing Pastor Wright and

    Trinity on national programming.

Because God is faithful, Trinity is nowable to share the liberation theology

preached through the man of God,

Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., with the nation!

What a blessing this national ministry has

already been to the church, within one

    month!

Monetary gifts, tape series orders, book

sales, TrumpetNewsmagazines, etc., comedaily! We receive more calls now for

orders on any given Sunday or Tuesday

morning than we would receive within a

entire month while we were broadcastin

on WJYS. To God be the glory!

We are encouraging our faithful viewer

who would plan their Monday eveningsaround the ministry of Trinity United

Church of Christ to subscribe to the tap

ministry. We have had monthly tape

subscribers (many living out of the

country) for the past 15 years.

Understanding change is never easy, we

ask you to please help us make thistransitional season of change a much ea

one. Support the ministry of media and

help us reach the masses. Please continu

to pray for us, as we strive to do the Wi

of God and share the Man of God with

world, and not simply confine him to th

    small Chicagoland viewing area.

    God bless you!

On Tuesday at the Samuel DeWitt ProctorConference Legislative Day in Washington,D.C., Representative Jim Clybourn gave some

astounding remarks as to the adverse effects ofthe proposed budget by Resident Bush. Inthis years State of the Union address, Bushstated, A society is measured by how it treatsthe weak and vulnerable. When looking atthe proposed budget cuts that Bush has sent toCongress, this societys priorities expresslyindicate how weak this society is, and how itpreys on the vulnerable of this society.

Consider the following proposed cuts toprograms by the Bush administration:

Medicaid will be cut by $60 billion Public Housing will be cut by $270 million Community Development Black Grants will

be cut by $1.16 billion Veterans Mandatory Programs will be cut by

$800 million No Child Left Behind will be cut by $12

    billion

Conversely, Faith-based Funding Programswill be kicked up to $2.835 billion.

In these areas of proposed cuts, according toRep. Jim Clybourn of South Carolina, ourcommunities stand to lose over $72 billion infederal funding with the Bush budget.Consider the effects:

300,000 working parents will lose foodstamps for their families

25,000 children will be dropped from HeadStart

213,000 veterans will be eliminated from thesystem due to rising health care costs

300,000 working families will lose childservices

3,000,000 children will be shut out of afteschool programs and will be deniededucational services and opportunities

All these cuts and adverse effects continueabound as this governments greed andarrogance have allowed another $42 billionbe approved for defense spending. Over $billion have been spent to kill innocent peoAmericans and Iraqis, while the basic need

people right here on these shores are notprovided for by this government. In addititax cuts for the rich further impede theeconomic viability of those who are just tryto feed their families from day to day. Thigovernment is tyrannical, hypocritical anddownright immoral.

On Tuesday, members of the CongressionaBlack Caucus let us know that letters and c

make a difference to the representatives inCongress. Therefore, I urge you to find ouwho your representative is, and contact theto let them know your thoughts about theseproposed budget cuts.

    A HUNDRED TIMES

    EVERY DAY

The remarkable scientist and thinker,Albert Einstein, once made a profoundstatement about getting and giving in life. Ahundred times every day, he said, I remindmyself that my life depends on the labors ofother people, living and dead.

Then he went on to say, I realize that Imust exert myself in order to give in themeasure as I have received and am stillreceiving.

Christians are prompted to feel similarlyabout the gifts given to us by God. Gifts thatare given good measure, pressed down, shakentogether, running over, (Luke 6:38) flood downupon us daily: grace, mercy and peace. Theyalso add life, joy and salvation through Christ. And do not forget the gifts from the earth, air, teeming oceans, surging rivers and bubblingsprings. Remember also gifts from our familymembers, friends, teachers, pastors and thecountless people in society who are theprotectors and conservationists of life:physicians, policemen, firemen, members of themilitary and others far too numerous to mention.

Imagine how we are being looked after24/7 by God and Gods faithful. We get andwe get and we get ... if we only take time toremember. Einstein was wise to realize that heneeded to exert himself in order to give in themeasure he had received. Jesus put it this way,Everyone to whom much is given of Him willmuch be required. (Luke 12:48) To bespiritually healthy, we would do well to be alertto the bountiful gifts we are given each day andto make certain that we exert ourselves to givein the measure we have received.
