peals of thunder. Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God. 6 Also before the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal. In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. 7 The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. 8 Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.”

7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.ISAIAH 42:5–9 (NRSV)5 Thus says God, the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk in it: 6 I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness, I have taken you by the hand and kept you; I have given you as a covenant to the people, a light to the nations, 7 to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness. 8 I am the Lord, that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to idols. 9 See, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth, I tell you of them.

11:00 a.m.REVELATION 4:1–8 (NIV)1 After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” 2 At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. 3 And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne. 4 Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. 5 From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and

CONfessiON Of siNs pAsTOr’s pAge

Almighty and Most Merciful Father, we come before You, acknowledging our sins,

our shortcomings, and our breaking of our Covenant with You.

Not only have we done things we ought not to have done, said things we ought not to have said, left undone so many things we ought to have done and been silent when we should have witnessed for You.

Not only are we guilty of that, O Lord; but we have also closed our eyes and pretended not to see the injustices, the racism and the evil which pervade our everyday lives.

We have shut our ears and pretended not to hear the cries for liberation which come from the lips, lives and hearts of the oppressed — even our own Black brothers and sisters!

Forgive us, O Lord, renew our courage and faith, and keep us ever mindful of Thy great sacrifice. Hear us, we beseech Thee, as we come to You in love and worship giving Your name the praise forevermore.

= = = = = = = = = = =

TO ALL OUR VISITORS … To all who mourn and need comforting … To all who are friendless and want friendship … To all who are oppressed and need liberation; and to whosoever will come, Trinity opens its doors. Thank you for coming and may God bless you.

PRAy FOR ShAdRACh NePFumbAdA

Our member, Shadrach Nepfumbada served the South African Consulate for several

years here in the City of Chicago. Our member, Shadrach, worshipped with us every Sunday.

The South African government posted him back to South Africa when his term of service was up here in Chicago. Our thoughts, our prayers and our love went with Shadrach as he went back home.

Several of our members got to meet Shad-rach’s mother (and father) when we were in Venda, South Africa several years ago. Many more of our members got to meet his mother and father when Shadrach’s parents came to spend time with him here in the City of Chicago while he lived here.

We got news last month of Shadrach’s mother being placed in hospice care. As she prepares to journey across the Jordan and into the Promised Land, we ask you to keep Shadrach lifted up in prayer.

We ask you to keep his mother in prayer. We ask you to keep his father in prayer and we ask you to keep his entire family in prayer.

Gratefully yours,

Pastor Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.

TO dO JUsTiCe

Today, all across the state of Illinois, churches are advocating for Universal Health Care as part of the Health Care

Sabbath. The following facts are provided by the Campaign for Better Health Care.

THE CURRENT HEALTH CARE SYSTEM—A LOOK AT ILLINOIS

15.8 % (1.75 mILLION) OF ILLINOIS ReSIdeNTS ARe uNemPLOyed: Although this number is down 0.4% since 2002, it indicates that a significant portion of Illinois residents are in dire need of health insurance. The uninsured are not just located in Chicago; health care coverage is a problem across the state:

25.8% of Chicago residents are uninsured• 13.2% of Metro Chicago residents are • uninsured13.9% of Downstate residents are • uninsured

yOu dON’T hAVe TO be POOR TO be uNINSuRed IN ILLINOIS: Although it is a common thought that only poor residents of Illinois are uninsured, statistical studies from 2004 indicate that residents in a wide range of yearly incomes are still unable to afford health insurance. The following indicates the number of uninsured people, based on their yearly income (Residents under the age 65).

12% OF ILLINOIS ChILdReN (uNdeR AGe 18) ARe uNINSuRed: These children are not receiving preventative care or regular check-ups, making it more likely that they will become ill; thus, giving them a higher risk of death at a younger age. In addition, 27% of young adults (19–29) are uninsured, unable to afford their own health care coverage.

A SIGNIFICANT PeRCeNTAGe OF The uNINSuRed ARe FuLL TIme emPLOyeeS:

Another common mistake is assuming that people who work full time are covered. As health insurance becomes more expensive, having a full time job doesn’t guarantee that you can afford health care or that your business will cover you.

19.3% of full time workers in Chicago are • uninsured13.0% of full time workers in the Metro area • are uninsured11.4% of full time workers downstate are • uninsured

SmALL buSINeSSeS CAN’T AFFORd TO COVeR emPLOyeeS: As healthcare costs increase, small businesses are finding it harder to provide health insurance for their workers. The following statistics indicate the percentage of uninsured, full-time workers for businesses with fewer than 25 employees:

88,946 (35.2%) small business employees in • Chicago are uninsured

by Rev. Reginald Williams, Jr.

Order Of WOrshipTO dO JUsTiCe157,341 (21.9%) small business employees in the metro area are uninsured• 94,446 (22.7%) small business employees downstate are uninsured•

The facts relayed above display the extent to which this country’s priorities are misplaced. More focus is placed on wars that kill, and oil to steal, than a heath care system to heal. Contact your representatives, and urge them to make health care for all the priority for the people of Illinois.

THE RESULTS OF A REDEEMED LIFE

DON’T FALL BACKWhether it is beginning in springtime or ending in the fall, changes in daylight savings time can be very disorienting. Apart from the inconvenience of having to change clocks, there’s the trouble of changing your wake-up time. Also, depending on your schedule, having to work or commute during the darkness can be hard to get used to.

Remembering to change the clocks is important (I’ve missed church services at least twice because I forgot), but at least it is easy to remember what to do when it’s time. There’s an old saying: “Spring forward, fall back.” Clocks need to be set an hour later in the springtime, and an hour earlier in the fall.

Sometimes, starting Christian stewardship can be disorienting, too. Getting used to spending time volunteering, instead of relaxing, isn’t easy. Neither is giving money that we’d normally spend on ourselves. Possibly risking embarrassment by speaking or performing in front of others can be terribly difficult for some people.

But, we can do it, if we try hard enough. We can “spring forward” to rearrange our lives to serve Christ and make this world a better place. (And, we must remember not to “fall back” into old habits).

The Stewardship Ministry Constance A. King, EditorJames D. Butler, Chairperson

January Isaiah 40:1-2 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. 2Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the LORD’s hand double for all her sins.

Feuary Isaiah 40:4–5 4 “Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. 5And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

Mar Isaiah 40:11 He tends his ock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

Ail Isaiah 40:18 To whom, then, will you compare God? What image will you compare him to?

May Isaiah 40:21 Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded?

June Isaiah 40:25 “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.

July Isaiah 40:26 Li your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.

Augu Isaiah 40:27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God”?

Septemr Isaiah 40:28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? e LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

Octor Isaiah 40:29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Novemr Isaiah 40:30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;

Decemr Isaiah 40:31 But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. ey will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

RestorationA God of My heartfelt hope for the congregation in the year 2007 is that each member

will fully embrace what it means to be loved by a God who restores. God is a God of redemption and not a God of condemnation.

Isaiah 40 (NIV)
