TOOTGAROOK TELEGRAPH Weekly newsletter of TOOTGAROOK PRIMARY SCHOOL Website: www.tootps.vic.edu.au Telephone: 5985 2864 Email Address: [email protected] Issue 20 26 th June, 2014 CALENDAR Friday 27 th June - LAST DAY TERM 2 – 2.30pm dismissal Saturday 28 th June - Tootgarook Community Market – 2J rostered Dates for Term 3 Monday 14 th July- Term 3 begins 9.00am MID –YEAR HOLIDAYS A final reminder that term two concludes this Friday 27th June, with students being dismissed early at 2:30pm from the Multi Purpose Room to begin their mid-year break. School will resume on Monday 14th July for the start of term 3. Thank you to all students, staff and parents for another wonderful term. HEAD LICE OUTBREAK This is the time of year the potential of head lice can become an outbreak in a school. We understand that this is potentially a very frustrating situation, especially when reinfestation occurs. Could I please ask all parents to take a few minutes in the holidays to carefully check their child/ren’s hair? If we all blitz this problem at the same time then hopefully we have a better chance of keeping on top of this problem. Please note that teachers/support staff are unable to inspect hair without written consent from a parent and that as soon as we become aware of a student with head lice then a notice is sent home immediately to all students in that specific class. At the beginning of next term our trained parent team will be inspecting hair of all students who have provided permission. To be effective at Tootgarook Primary School, we all need to pool our resources at home and school so we can avoid the potential of an outbreak next term. Thank you in anticipation of your support on this matter. DOGS IN THE SCHOOL GROUNDS I’ve had several parents approach me over the last week to express their concerns about the increasing number of dogs being brought into the grounds at drop off and pick up times. To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students we ask that parents refrain from bringing their dogs onto the grounds. There are many students who are intensely scared of dogs and these students can become very anxious when they see them in the grounds. Our experience has also found that many dogs can become quite excited and unpredictable around large groups of students and of course there are the obvious hygiene matters at times as well. Where a puppy or small dog is brought to school for show and share, we ask that this is done in full consultation with the classroom teacher (to ascertain whether any students may become anxious), and if this goes ahead, that the dog is under the close supervision of the owner at all times. Thank you in anticipation of your support on this important matter.

Last week from Wednesday 18

th to Friday 20

th of June, 17 students from Tootgarook Primary School

went to The Briars to participate in the Southern Peninsula Music Camp. Students and teachers from

Tootgarook, Boneo, Rye, Rosebud, Pearcedale and Eastbourne got together for 3 days to learn 14

songs. The camp culminated in a concert on Friday night held at Eastbourne Primary School. It was a

big celebration of the 30th

Anniversary of the camp with lots of guest appearances and a very big

crowd. Tootgarook was also well represented with 7 former students participating as junior tutors. The

students from Tootgarook were excellent representatives for our school and a joy to take to the camp.

Already looking forward to next year!
