Allegheny Valley Hospital Seeks Caring People Allegheny Valley Hospital is seeking volunteers to join the surgical reception, information desk and lobby escort teams. These positions offer significant opportunity to work directly with patients and their families. All volunteers greet patients and visitors and help them throughout their experience in the hospital. Interested volunteers are asked to make a weekly or bi-weekly commitment for a 3 to 4-hour shift. Shifts are available at a range of times from 6 am to 6 pm. Current openings are available on Monday through Friday. Volunteers make a difference every day at AVH. Prayers for Healing: Prayers for Healing is a monthly setting of Evening Prayer held the first Monday of each

month on November 4, December 2 in 2019 and January 6, February 3, March 2, (no April), and May 4 in 2020.

Evenings will include sung psalms, Sacred Scripture, silence, prayers for petition and a spoken reflection. Open to

all faith traditions, prayer will be held from 7:00 pm-8:00 pm in the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse Chapel,

On a Wing and a Prayer: Are you a Catholic young adult who is passionate about your faith and up for

adventure? On October 26, 2019, the Vocations Office presents On a Wing and a Prayer, a young adult bus trip to

Buffalo, NY with stops at Our Lady of Victory Basilica & National Shrine; Niagara Falls; and the Anchor Bar,

Fall Retreat Scheduled by the Youngstown Chapter of the Slovak Catholic Federation

The Youngstown Chapter of the Slovak Catholic Federation is hosting a day-long spiritual retreat at Villa Maria

of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, in Villa Maria, PA on Monday, October 28, 2019. The group will meet

locally, at a site to be determined, and carpool to Villa Maria at 10am. The day will begin with the Rosary at 11,

followed by lunch. The afternoon includes a chance to tour the facilities, peruse the fair-trade gift shop, as well as

a featured presentation and time for private prayer. The day concludes with Mass at 4pm.

The retreat is open to everyone, regardless of home parish or affiliation with the Slovak Catholic Federation. The

cost of lunch is $5.50 and will be served in the main cafeteria.

54th Annual Chimbote Mission Dinner: Become Part of the Story

On Thursday, October 24, 2019, at 6:00 pm, become part of Chimbote’s story during the 54th Annual Chimbote

Mission Dinner. The diocesan mission in Peru supports the poorest of the poor as a Catholic medical mission with

a medical clinic, maternity hospital, home visit program, and children’s shelter. The Diocese of Pittsburgh and the

Chimbote Foundation will celebrate the 100,000th birth at the maternity hospital. Mission partners who served in

Chimbote this past summer will give testimonies. Mike Clark, news anchor for WTAE-TV, will be the Master of

Ceremonies. The 2019 dinner takes place at a new location: The Ballroom in the Student Union at Duquesne
