Leonard I. Sweet is an American theologian, semiotician, church historian, pastor, and author.

Sweet currently serves as the E. Stanley Jones Professor of Evangelism at Drew Theological School

at Drew University, in Madison, New Jersey; and a Visiting Distinguished Professor at George Fox

University in Portland, Oregon. Sweet is ordained in the United Methodist Church. In citing chang-

es and challenges that the church will face in the years ahead, he calls his listeners to the challenge

NATALIE’S NEWS Thank you to UMW, Sunday school classes, and individuals for making our “Deeply Rooted” Re-

treat such as success.

Messiah Passover Program is Sunday March 11, 5pm at FLC.

We will leave for Confirmation Retreat at Lake Junaluska on Friday March 16 at 5pm and we re-turn Sunday March 18, 2pm.

Easter Egg Hunt is Saturday March 24, 2pm-4pm in Family Life Center.

From the Creators of The Lost Shepherd, the highly anticipated New Easter Production is com-ing in March 2018! Not only will you see the Death, Burial and Resurrection of our savior, Jesus Christ, but you will see the stories of his beloved Apostles that He commissioned to carry on His Gospel work. This inspirational musical drama entitled "Stix and Stones" is a spectacular live theatre produc-tion which begins where The Lost Shepherd story ends with the chronicles of the Early Church. You will rejoice with each victory gained and feel the pain of the ultimate price paid by those that stood and preached the gospel that we continue to cherish today. “Stix and Stones” is Sunday March 25, in Winston Salem! We will depart FLC at 2:30 pm and go to the play and stop by the Dairio on way back! Returning to FLC at 8pm. Cost is $14 per person and due by March 11! Deep Roots Community Garden (Miracles Grow)

Hello Everyone,

I know it just doesn’t seem possible that we are at the beginning of a new gardening year! Deep Roots is

happy to announce that we are going into our fifth season. My how the time does fly when you are having a

ball!!

We are so thankful for your continued support through our growing pains. It has been quite a ride so

far and we look forward to many more seasons of growing and learning.

My husband Dave bought me a 2018 Farmers’ Almanac for Christmas, so I thought you might like to

know their weather predictions for the Month of March for our area: We are listed as Zone 3

(Southeast)

Mar. 1-3 Another major East Coast storm brings widespread heavy snow with accumulations of 12 plus inch-

es in the Virginias and mountains of NC. ELSEWHERE (that’s us) showery/heavy rains, gusty winds.

Mar. 4-7: Partial sunshine, breezy with perhaps a passing rain or wet snow shower.

Mar. 8-11: Scattered showers – Mar. 12-15: Windy, more showers, then clearing. Mar.-16-19: Consider it a

“wintermission” as winter comes to a close; dry with a mixture of clouds, sun.

Mar. 20-23: Wet snow, sleet in Mid-Atlantic or rain in Southeast sweeps in from the West.

Mar. 24-27: Showers Gulf States through Carolinas to Virginia, then fair. Mar. 28-31: Showery

(Looks like our gardens will have plenty of moisture to start growing!!!!)

March is a good time to divide your raspberries , start sweet potato tubers in a quart of water. Can try your

hand at planting some peas around second week. Spinach is good to start now too! If you like to roto-til

your garden, the middle of March is also a good time for this. When turning over soil for the first time, till in

about 3# of sugar per acre to get rid of nermitodes.

If you plant broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower plants around the 15th, they will be ready to pick in May. Plant

Lettuce, parsley, dill, rosemary or sage in each corner of these raised beds and they will deter the cabbage

worms that sometimes show up on these crops. According to the Almanac, white potatoes should be plant-

ed on Good Friday (by the Dark of the Moon)! Not sure my neighbors would think that was right!! (All below

ground crops should be planted this way and above ground crops should be planted (by the light of the

moon)!! Wow! Interesting!

That is all we have for our first month of 2018! God is good All the Time! All the time, God is good!

Preschool registration is off to a GREAT start. We are excited for new possibilities and things to come

with the new school year! We are still selling shirts if you want one, they are $15 and the profits will

go towards providing even more fun and learning for our children. Summer Day Camp registration is

open- remember, register and pay the $25 by March 31 and you will get entered in a drawing for a $25 credit on your account! Summer Camp is very flexible with both part time and full time WEEKLY

options. We would love to have your child(ren) or grandchild(ren). We are always looking for people

to come share their talents with our After School and would love you to come visit on

a Friday afternoon. We are also still in need of the little LEGO blocks if you have any that you would

Oh Lord Jesus, when you looked at the crowds of people, you had compassion on them because they were harassed

and helpless, like sheep with no shepherd. You prayed to your Father to send laborers into the field.

Some of these laborers are our Stephen Ministers. Help our ministers use their gifts and training as they serve.

Guide us now as we look for those within our church

WHEN MINISTRY As of Thursday (2-15-2018) the When Ministry has served 747 hot meals (average 93 weekly) at a cost of approximately $1.24 per plate for a total of $928.17. WHEN has served 115 more hot meals over last year at this time resulting in a 23% in-crease. At the same time the cost of each plate has been reduced .20 cents per plate without sacrific-ing quantity or quality. We have spent $1,210.64 from the church account leaving a balance in that account of $2,789.36. Combined with the savings account we have availa-ble funds totaling $4,689.36. WHEN will still need to raise additional monies to fund the program through the end of the year. The When Ministry is sponsoring a Wednesday night meal at the Church on March 28, 2018 to raise funds for "Just Hope". Please mark your calendar's and plan to attend. Invite friends and neighbors. We will be getting together with Krystal to plan the menu and will get that out to the church family and community. Let’s have a great turnout!
