THOSE WHO SERVE From the Pastor
As we enter the month of December, we have much to celebrate. God has truly blessed our church in many ways. It is such a blessing for Susan and me to be a part of this church family and we want to share that blessing and the love we experience in Christ with as many people as possible. Reach Out to Others I hope during this season you will be attentive to and reach out to folks in your sphere of influence at work, at school, in the neighborhood or other places that might be open to an invitation to one of our Sunday services or a special Christmas service or fellowship opportunity. People who are not in church or involved in the faith are often more open during this season to an invitation to Christ and the church. Obvi-ously, Christmas is first and foremost about the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. We have a message of great joy, hope and celebration for what Christmas offers through faith in Jesus Christ. Commitment Sunday, Dec. 11 I want to remind you that we are urging everyone to be in ministry in 2017 and ask that you turn in your Every Member in Ministry 2017 Commitment Card on Sunday, Dec. 11. We have forms for children, youth and adults in the narthex of the sanctuary and the Family Life Center. Year-End Giving As our year comes to a close, I want to thank you in advance for your generous giving to enable us to finish the year “in the black” with all our financial commitments met. In order for contributions to be credited for 2016 they need to be in our church office no later than Wednesday, Dec. 28. I hope you will take advantage of all the opportunities to grow in your faith and use the Advent season to prepare for the celebration of the birth of Christ, to welcome Christ anew in your heart and to be prepared for His second coming in final victory and triumph. Christmas Blessings, Pastor Glenn

It is difficult to adequately express my gratitude to each of you for your prayers, cards, phone calls, food, visits, memorials and most of all your caring and love. Your thoughtful expressions of sympathy have shown me how many lives that Taylor touched. Please keep me and our family in your hearts and prayers as we have our “firsts” without him. From Deep Roots Community Garden Committee
Best Wishes for a wonderful Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us at Deep Roots!
Our hearts are humble and thankful for our church community and our Mocksville community for all you
have done throughout the year to support and uplift us as we continue our dreams.
We have to mention at this time also that young Nick Koon from troop 575 completed his Eagle Scout
project at the storehouse garden. We now have a new lean-to added to our shed, a new bulletin board
installed along with a ramp and a wonderful new sign. If you have time, please stop by to see those nice
improvements. Thank you Nick and all of troop 575 who helped in this worthwhile project.
Jesse Foster, the Agriculture Teacher at Mocksville High School let his students plant cotton in our Store-
house for Jesus garden so they could see and experience what growing cotton was all about.
Betty Foster and Sarah Wood have also supplied us with lilies to grace the borders of all of our garden
plots. Thank you ladies for helping to make our gardens so pretty for 2017!
The most joyous season of the year is now upon us! It gives us time to pause and reflect on what is real-
ly important in life and WHO is the most important. The birth month of our Savior has us thinking on
what is valuable and sacred to all! We wish you a blessed holiday and a New Year with all God’s promis-
es for you shining brightly ahead!
Thank you for an exciting 2016. Our gardens will open again in the spring of 2017!
Deep Roots Garden Committee
The FUMC Preschool along with Triple J Manor House
invite you to "Mill Around the Manor" on December 1,
2016 from 5:30-8:30pm at Triple J Manor House (362
Interstate Drive, Mocksville). Mill Around the Manor is
an opportunity for you to come and shop from over 20
different vendors and local artisans all while supporting
a great cause as 10% of the vendor's sales will go to
Ellie Kate Stoke's Fight Against Leukemia. Ellie Kate is
the daughter of Amy and Zach Stokes and has a young-
er sister and older brother. She was diagnosed with
"ALL" Leukemia on November 5, 2016.
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
All ladies are invited to a United Methodist Women covered
dish meal in the Family Life Center on Monday, December 5 at
6:00 p.m. All young ladies from Kindergarten age through High
School are welcome. The “World Famous Altos” will perform.
Remember to bring personal items for Broughton Hospital.
Should be a great time of fellowship with the women of our
church.
Mary Circle members packed 95 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child at their meeting in November. Mission's Poor Man's Supper held 11/16 evening raised almost $500 to pay postage fees for the boxes. Thanks to all Church members who supported these causes!
DINNER December 28 6:30 PM
College Students and Adoptive Families
The Adoptive Families will host their College Students and Parents for dinner in the Family Life Center at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, 12/28.
Meats will be provided. Adoptive families please bring a salad, veggie or
dessert. Christmas gifts for your respective student should be brought to the dinner and
NOT mailed in December as the college students will be on break from school.
The WHEN Ministry meets on Thursday afternoons to prepare and deliver meals to the
less fortunate in the Mocksville Community. During December, WHEN will be collecting
items such as canned meals, ramen noodles in microwavable bowls, soups, canned meats,
crackers, nabs, individual bags of chips, fruit cups, apple sauce, juice boxes, etc. Items needed
should not require refrigeration. Please drop off your items in the lobby of the Family Life
Center. Christmas bags will be made with these donations for these families and delivered
on Thursday, December 22 with the Christmas meal.
Dear Church Family, I would like to thank everyone who donated sup-plies and money to the Princeville Elementary School students. We were able to fill up two vehi-cles with school supplies. I received enough in do-nations, that we were also able to purchase ap-proximately 120 fleece jackets. Many of these stu-dents lost everything, and what this congregation gave to them is much more than supplies and jack-ets. It is very humbling to see the response of this church when called to action. Belinda Brewer
