NEWS & OPPORTUNITIES

The Sanctuary of the church is open from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday evenings each week for prayer. TODAY - The middle school & high school students are meeting at the church at 4:00 PM for a service-fellowship event. We are going to go to Wal-Mart to shop for needed items for the Storehouse for Jesus pantry. We will have dinner at Zeko's afterwards and will be back at the church around 6:30pm. Students who would like to attend are encouraged to bring $5 for the Storehouse food and money for their dinner. The FUMC Preschool is accepting applications for the 2014/2015 school year. Contact Barbara Basham for more information. Also, registration forms for the Afterschool Program are available on the church website or by contacting Allison Lambert, [email protected]. Hope Lives is November 8th, and it will take the participation of all to make it a success! As the date draws nearer, more information regarding volunteering and donations will be distributed on yellow paper. See Barbara Laymon for more details. Remember to buy your school supplies for Hope Lives while they are sale for back-to school. You can bring them to the conference room in the FLC, and the school supply committee will take care of filling the backpacks. If you have not received the list, there are some on the table in the foyer of the FLC and in the narthex of the sanctuary. All Hope Lives forms can also be found on the church website under the Hope Lives section. Let's remember our church's mission statement and let us RESPOND to the needs of others with the love of God the Father! On Saturday, August 16th, from 8:00 -10:00 AM, FUMC, Mocksville will host a pancake breakfast to bring awareness to Hope Lives. This breakfast will be donations-only, with all proceeds going to fund "Hope Lives." The breakfast will be offered as a free meal to those in need in our community. Members of all ages are encouraged to attend and/or volunteer. Please pass the word to family, friends, co-workers, etc. If you're interested in volunteering or have any questions, please contact Tracy Huneycutt at [email protected]. Prayers & Squares is hosting the Wednesday Fellowship Meal this week, July 23rd, 5:30 PM in the Family Life Center. Menu is salad, baked potatoes, and assorted desserts. Forms and information letters for participating in the Adoptive College Student program have been mailed to all college students. If you did not receive one, please let Barbara Laymon know so that she can get one to you. Please return these forms as soon as you can if you plan to participate, and if you are not going to participate, please let Barbara know that also. The Worship Committee will meet on Wednesday, July 30th at 7:00 in the FLC Conference Room. The 2014 Gathering of the Laity is scheduled for August 8-10 at Lake Junaluska. The theme this year will be "Extravagant Generosity - Transforming Our Communities, Our Churches, Our Lives." For more information about this spiritual renewal and revitalization conference, see the brochure posted at the entrance of the FLC or visit www.gatheringofthelaity.org. There will be a Safe Sanctuaries meeting in August for all Sunday School teachers of children and youth. This meeting will discuss our Safe Sanctuaries policy for the upcoming school year. The proposed dates are Tuesday, August 12th at 7:00 PM and/or Wednesday, August 13th at 7:00 PM. It is very important to attend this meeting if you are a Sunday School teacher of children and youth. Please let John Huneycutt know which date you will attend. The Conference requires all churches to review and comply with our Safe Sanctuaries Policy for the protection of our children and youth.
