God’s Watchers

In the ancient world watchmen were extremely im-portant people. They kept communities safe, and were there to alert them to any impending danger or attack. Before locks, alarms, and security systems, watchmen were the protectors, the safety measure. So when the Lord charges Ezekiel as a watchman today, it is a weighty charge. So weighty, we learn, that if Ezekiel fails to sound the alarm for those around him and they perish in a state of wickedness, Ezekiel will be held re-sponsible! This profound connection between God’s will on earth and in heaven is repeated in today’s Gos-pel, where Jesus instructs us that we are to be the securi-ty force, the watchers placed on alert that nowhere in the Body of Christ, the church, will there be any two mem-bers of the one Body who are not reconciled. Scripture tells us that Jesus reconciled all things in heaven and on earth through the blood of his cross. But we are given the mission to continue that reconciliation on earth as in heaven through our ceaseless efforts to be, as Paul would write, ambassadors of reconciliation. Let us not get too comfortable thinking that we are responsible on-ly for keeping our own lives from the path of wicked-ness and disagreement. We are also held accountable for the lives of the members of Christ’s body around us.

Family life can build values integral to a strong voca-tion—whether to the priesthood, religious life or mar-riage. Teaching your children to value commitment, service and prayer will help them make strong vocation decisions as adults and live out those vocations with success and fulfillment.

This year’s theme for the Diocesan Services Fund (DSF) is Go Make Disciples.

Our 2017 DSF has begun in every parish throughout the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Christ calls us to reach those who are sick or in need, to bless them, serve them, and show them mercy. The thousands of people served by the ministries of the Archdiocese need your compassion and generosity. Your kind gift to DSF ena-bles us to reach out to people in this parish and through-out the entire Archdiocese through more than 60 im-portant programs. Please pray about your commitment, then complete the pledge card and return it by mail or drop it off at St. Justin Martyr. Your generosity will allow our Catholic community to continue many vital programs and services.

Envelopes are in the narthex. Please, make your pledge today. Hosts & Wine for St. Justin Martyr

The honor of providing the Bread and Wine at every Mass, can be yours. The bread and wine are consecrat-ed into the Body and Blood of Christ. The hosts are made by the cloistered Dominican Sisters in New Caney, Texas, and the wine (made and sold for use in the Mass) is made by the Christian Brothers in Califor-nia. Those who would like to donate the Hosts and Wine for the Masses of each month are invited to do so. The hosts and wine could be given in memory of depart-ed loved ones.

The offering for the hosts for one month would be $270 and the offering for the wine for one month would be $150. To make this donation, contact Karen Rachal in the parish office, 281-556-5116. Thank you.
