Introduction
• Software-defined radio (SDR) is a radio communication system where component that have been typically implemented in a hardware efficient equipments such as mixers, filters, amplifiers, modulators/demodulators, detectors, etc.) are instead implemented by means of software on a personal computer or embedded system.
Objectives
• Software defined radio is an emerging technique that provides easy portability and adaptability on the existing hardware. Cognitive radio technique utilizes this software defined technique to intelligently and efficiently uses the available knowing frequency spectrum about the information of other users using the same spectrum. The primary aim is to simulate a working cognitive radio for which we require to produce a variable source generator to replicate real life usage of the frequency channels.
Advantages
• Complex functions in wireless protocol-specific algorithms are perfectly suited to programmable DSPs since they combine number-crunching power with intelligence to enable multitasking.
• Efficient and effective SDR design requires a standard programmable hardware platform that allows designers to navigate these tough system requirements
Tools used
• Matlab/SIMULINK
• VLSI
Pictorial Representation
Conclusion
• Software defined radio provides the user an extra advantage of verifying the application of the system. This gives an edge over efficiency of the product
