Integral (GB) (Dalakhani {Ire}) took advantage offast conditions to annex the G2 Duke ofCambridge S. on the second day of the RoyalMeeting June 18, but had decidedly differentunderfoot conditions to deal with in yesterday’sG1 QIPCO Falmouth S. at Newmarket. But, asmany of her sire’s produce do, she handled theease in the ground with aplomb and went on tobest G1 Coronation S. victress Rizeena (Ire)(Iffraaj {GB}) by a comfortable two-lengthmargin.

Darley July Cup cont. Lynam continued, ASlade Power has done nothing butimprove throughout his career and we are hopeful thathe still has a bit more improvement left in him. TheDiamond Jubilee was a good result for him, but I thinkhe might have been idling a bit in front, his jockey[Wayne Lordan] certainly thinks that he was. The lasttime that Sole Power ran in a Group 1 race over sixfurlongs he was second to the best sprinter in theworld in Hong Kong last December with Slade Power

behind him.@ Second andthird, respectively, in theDiamond Jubilee, MichaelTabor, Derrick Smith andSusan Magnier=sJ “TDN Rising Star” J Due Diligence (WarFront) and SheikhHamdan bin Rashid AlMaktoum=s Aljamaaheer(Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) re-oppose on ground whichmay compromise them. The latter=s trainer Roger

Varian is hoping that the Shadwell representative cancontinue to hone his sprinting prowess on what will beonly his third run in the division. AAljamaaheer is ingreat form,@ he said. AHis work since Ascot has beensolid and this has been the plan since. He only has toimprove one or two pounds again to have a winningchance. We would have preferred quicker ground andany drying out betweennow and then wouldhelp.@ Qatar Racing=shighly regardedsophomore Hot Streak(Ire) (Iffraaj {GB})captured the G2 TempleS. at Haydock May 24before finishing third inthe King=s Stand, and thiseasing of the surface iswhat he needs. NoozhohCanarias (Spa) (Caradak{Ire}) is one of the most intriguing contenders in theline-up, having dominated Spain=s racing scene andtransferred that class to the better contests of Franceand England. Runner-up in Longchamp=s G1 PrixJean-Luc Lagardere on Arc day, he was sixth in theMay 3 G1 2000 Guineas at Newmarket when giving theimpression the mile stretched his stamina beyond itslimits. AHe had a gallop on Tuesday which sharpenedhim up and woke him up a bit and now he=s really readyto go,@ trainer Enrique Leon told PA Sport.

A # will distinguish first-time stakes-winners, a @ willindicate first-time graded stakes-winners, a s willdenote a first-time Grade/Group 1 winner, a + willindicate first-time starters, an (S) will be used for state-bred races, a (C) will be used for maiden-claiming racesand an (R) will be used for other restricted races.

AHe=s a good traveler, he has been here for the bestpart of a week now and has taken everything very well.He won=t necessarily make the running, he just needs touse his pace, as he has a very long stride. If anyonewants to go faster than him then we will be happy tosit in behind. I think the Guineas form is very strong, ashe had many Group 1 horses behind him, and if hereproduces that run, I will be happy and he should goclose.@ Princess Haya of Jordan=s Gregorian (Ire)(Clodovil {Ire}) comes into this on the back of a win inthe seven-furlong G3 Criterion S. on the soft surfacehere June 28 and needs that ground as he tries sixfurlongs for the first time.

QIPCO Falmouth S. cont. David and Patricia Thompson=s Cheveley Park Studhas grown enormously in stature over a near 40-yearperiod, thanks largely to some astute management andskilled training by Sir Michael Stoute. Of late, theirfillies have taken center stage with two of the best

being Chic (GB)(Machiavellian) and herhalf-sister Echelon(GB) (Danehill), whosigned off her careerwith a third in thistrack=s G1 Sun ChariotS. as the 11-8 favoriteseven years ago. Herdaughter Integral hasbeen working towardsa Group 1 win herself, having missed out byjust a length to SkyLantern (Ire) (RedClubs {Ire}) in the

G1 Sun Chariot S. on the Rowley Mile here inSeptember. Typically patiently handled by theFreemason Lodge conditioner, the bay also registeredwins in Sandown=s Listed Distaff S. and the G3 Atalanta S., albeit dead-heating with Ladys First(GB) (Dutch Art {GB}) in the latter. She returned to be ahead second to Esoterique (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) inthe nine-furlong G3 Dahlia S. over nine furlongs atNewmarket May 4 prior to her sizeable step forward atRoyal Ascot and only the significant rainfall whichpreceded this contest was a concern. Sent towards thefront line early by Ryan Moore, she was lit upshadowing old rival Sky Lantern but settled onceRizeena had been sent past by Olivier Peslier. Whenpush came to shove with a quarter mile remaining, shehad the most ammunition and only had to be kept up toher work to bring her owner-breeders a second renewalafter the success of Lovers Knot (GB) (Groom Dancer)in 1998. AShe=s done it well,@ her trainer commented.AShe hasn=t been on this sort of ground before andbounces off top of the ground, so we were a little bitconcerned. We didn=t contemplate not running her, aswe wanted to find out and the fact that she=s byDalakhani was an encouragement as very few of thosedon=t go on this type of ground. She=s in the G1 SussexS. [at Goodwood July 30], but I don=t know if we willtake on the colts.@ Rizeena's trainer Clive Brittain said,AComing down the hill, she doesn=t find that little bit,but she was staying on again up the rising ground. After an inauspicious start to her career when beatingonly one rival in a five-furlong maiden at Ascot May 9,Arabian Queen was a different proposition 10 days laterwhen breaking through at Windsor and was staying onwhen sixth behind Anthem Alexander (Ire)(Starspangledbanner {Aus}) in the Royal meeting=sG2 Queen Mary S. June 18. Able to use her naturalspeed over the ideal trip here, she took another stepforward to upset the hot favorite from France, HighCelebrity. Soon in front under Ryan Moore, the baywhose talented dam raced with one eye eventuallyfound the rail passing the quarter pole as MaximeGuyon moved through the gears on the visitingJ “TDN Rising Star” J. While the Fabre traineewandered around through greenness, Arabian Queenkept pointing her toe and gamely held that raider at bayto show she has inherited more than a share of herdam=s determination. AShe probably won=t get the creditshe deserves, but she=s probably a fairly good filly,@ herrider said. AHer mother was very good and got better asshe got older, so hopefully she will as well.@ TrainerDavid Elsworth added, AShe was probably unlucky atAscot with the draw, but she came good today. Ladies Are Forever first captured this race three yearsago and after returning to repeat the achievement 12months ago duly made it a third renewal with atypically tenacious effort. Beaten around three lengthswhen seventh in the G1 Nunthorpe S. here in Augustand in the G1 Prix de l=Abbaye de Longchamp inOctober, the bay had annexed the Listed LansdownFillies= S. also over five furlongs at Bath Apr. 19 beforerunning 10th in the G2 Duke of York S. at this courseand distance last time May 14. Settled in mid-divisionearly, she was able to employ more pace than her chiefrival Joyeuse passing halfway and that proved crucialwith Frankel=s half-sister unable to break down theadvantage the race specialist had carved out beforehitting the front approaching the furlong marker.

SheikhHamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum=s Estidhkaar (Ire) (DarkAngel {Ire}) ran into a smart rival in J “TDN RisingStar” J Portamento (Ire) (Shamardal) on debut oversix furlongs at Goodwood May 22, but showed thebenefit of that experience when beating the subsequentwinner and highly regarded Mustadeem (Ire) (Arcano{Ire}) over this trip at Newbury June 12. AWe are verykeen on Estidhkaar,@ trainer Richard Hannoncommented. AHe is a half-brother to Toormore and, having shown plenty of promise first time out atGoodwood, duly delivered in style at Newbury. Thesecond and fourth have both won since and it looked avery good maiden, so we think he is ready for this stepup in class. We also run Smaih (Ger) (Paco Boy {Ire}),who broke his maiden easily at Chepstow having run astormer on his debut at Windsor and, while he will needto improve to be a player, he is going the right way.@ Superlative S. field p9

As with Thursday=s bestseller, Friday=s top lot will beswitching from the flat to a jumping career. The geldingin question, Starchitect (Ire), is a first-crop son of Seathe Stars (Ire) out of the Sadler=s Wells mare Humilis(Ire) and sold as Lot 568. His good recent runner-upfinish over 10 furlongs in soft ground at the Curragh ledtrained Donald McCain to stake a claim on behalf ofowners Paul and Claire Rooney at 110,000gns. AHe=s a big, strong horse by a stand-out sire and hegoes on soft ground,@ said McCain. AThe horse whobeat him in Ireland [Table Rock] won a Listed raceyesterday so the form looks pretty good.@ As always, the Juddmonte draft came in for plenty ofscrutiny on Friday morning, with a number of itswell-bred fillies finding new homes in the broodmarebands of smaller breeders. Tom Goff of BlandfordBloodstock bid 80,000gns for Lot 602 Fly Past (GB), a3-year-old daughter of Zamindar and Group 2 winnerDaring Miss (GB) (Sadler=s Wells). Lady Rothschild=sFrangipanni (Ire) (Dansili {GB}), out of the G1 July Cupwinner Frizzante (GB) (Efisio {GB}), carried obviousappeal on pedigree as well as being a dual winner andshe may yet stay in training after being bought byAnthony Stroud as Lot 590 on behalf of an unnamedclient for 78,000gns.

Gassim Ghazali=s significant contribution to the JulySale continued throughout the final day with recentjuvenile winners Majorities (GB) (Major Cadeaux {GB})Lot 551 and Fine Prince (Ire) (Strategic Prince {GB}) Lot557 added to his haul at 68,000gns and 66,000gns,respectively. Turnover in excessof 8 million guineas is the third highest ever at the JulySale and all of the key indicators have reached theirhighest levels since 2007. The real feature has been theextraordinary level of international participation. Legislators Announce Support for EquiLottery... Both Kentucky State Senate Majority Leader DamonThayer (R-Georgetown) and State Representative andThoroughbred owner David Osborner (R-Prospect) havecome out in support of entrepreneur Brad Cummings=sEquiLottery, a proposed new lottery game whichfunnels portions of the proceeds into pari-mutuel pools.Thayer told the Louisville Courier-Journal that hebelieves that sales of the Commonwealth=s new keno-style game have exacted a toll on the horse racingindustry and called into question the legality of thestate=s Lottery Corporation to offer keno. According tothe Courier-Journal, keno sales over the first eightmonths of the game were $29.5 million, some $1.5million over projections. For his part, Cummings ispleased that prominent legislators are speaking out insupport of EquiLottery. AWe=re just really thrilled to see that there are someleaders in Frankfort that have stepped up and want tosee the innovation take place in the horse industry,@Cummings commented. AThere would be no better andquicker and easier fit than Kentucky for EquiLottery. Itis a central industry in the state. One of the reasons wewent public with the product is that we wanted to getindustry buy-in and let people see the idea forthemselves.@ And the response from other industry shareholders? AOverwhelmingly positive,@ Cummings confirmed. AIwas just talking to one of the people who is helpingfund this and I said, >I have to take a shot of everyemail and every conversation I=ve had over the lastcouple days.= Probably now we=ve had contact with 14or 15 states, and it=s not just industry people, it=s alsoactual lotteries that are calling us and saying that theythink the game has a lot of merit and that it=s a reallyexciting way to engage lottery customers. I expectedthere to be industry buy-in, although not nearly to thedegree that we=ve gotten it. What I=m more pleasedabout is that lotteries are looking at the concept andsaying >this is not just a good product for the racingindustry, it=s a good lottery product.@ Arch Gleason, president of the Lottery Corp., has metwith Cummings to gain background and to voiceconcerns about the product. But Cummings is buoyedby Gleason=s apparent willingness to considerEquiLottery. AWhat I saw it that he said that it=s >doable,=@ he said, referring to Gleason=s comments in the Courier-Journal. AWe=ve known that for a while. It=s not on their purviewright now because it hasn=t been brought up, but I hopenow it will be. It=s doable, we think it=s legal and we=relooking forward to presenting a full legal opinion to theindustry. There=s no reason it shouldn=t be implementedin Kentucky as soon as possible.@

He went thelast quarter in :24.@ Wise Dan sewed up his secondconsecutive Horse of the Year title with a repeat victoryin the GI Breeders= Cup Mile and had two starts underhis belt this term, a title defense in the GI Maker=s 46Mile Apr. 11 ahead of a narrow success in the GI Woodford Reserve Turf Classic May 3. Five daysfollowing his surgery, Wise Dan began his recovery atthe LoPrestis=s Forest Lane Farm near Lexington andreturned to Keeneland June 23 to continue his training.LoPresti said that Wise Dan will leave for Saratoga thisSunday and that the $500,000 GII Fourstardave H.Aug. 9 was Adefinitely in the cards.@ He is the two-timedefending champ of that one-mile test. Should he notbe ready for that, LoPresti could instead opt for the GII Bernard Baruch H. Aug. 30. Additional late-seasontargets could include the GI Woodbine Mile, a race hehas won in each of the last two seasons, and the GI Shadwell Turf Mile Oct. 4, in which he suffered thelone blemish in his prior 13 starts last fall when it wasrained onto the Polytrack.
