Family Ministries 2018
Kick-Off Meeting!
Team Members and parents are all invited.
Sunday, February 4, 2018
11:30 am in the Kendall Bldg.
The NUMC Family Ministries Team is ready
to start a new year supporting families in
your Fun and Faith journeys.
In 2017 we tried new approaches to family fellowship with monthly get-togethers. We also stepped
away from large event productions to offer focused family-centered seasonal worship
opportunities. With recommendations from our families,
we created time for parents and children to build relationships with fellow Christians.
What’s up for 2018? Well, we hope you will help us figure that out.
Please plan to attend our kick-off meeting Sunday, February 4, at 11:30, in the
Kendall Bldg. We will share ideas for future get-togethers, discuss possibilities for VBS, and more.
Returning Family Ministries team members and NUMC parents are encouraged to attend. Child
supervision will be provided.
Sacks of Love! - Family Ministries February Event
Join us on Sunday, February 11 in the Fireside Room from
11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. for a fun mission work event for the
whole family!
We will be assembling special snack sacks for those in need.
Also, we will enjoy some fun activities including cookie
decorating, a Valentine’s raffle, and positive reminders of everything God’s love does for us!
Acolytes Needed If you are in Middle School or High School and would like to help with Communion Service on the 1st Sunday of the month please contact the church office or Nancy Easterly. There will be an Acolyte Training on Sunday, February 25 at 11:15 a.m. in the Sanctuary.

North Valley Caring Services
It’s been over 20 years since NUMC first introduced Tandy & me to the work of North Valley Caring Services, when Chuck & Kathy Amend invited us to help out at the Children’s Christmas Mart. A lot has changed in that time, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse, and NUMC continues to be a key partner of NVCS and we’re still there volunteering. We volunteer because we can feel the love of God in every volunteer and everyone we help, we feel our hearts “strongly warmed”.
Last year, our first as an official charity for the Los Angeles Marathon, NUMC adopted one of our runners, supported several others from this church, and was the largest single fundraiser in our campaign which ended up raising over $60,000 for the work of NVCS. This money helped keep our doors open in a very difficult year where, along with the help of NUMC volunteers, we expanded our food program with the addition of a new refrigerated container (installed by the NUMC WMD crew) and
managed to exceed our goals in every area.
• More than 1 million pounds of food distributed to families in need • More than 30,000 meals served in our breakfast program • More than 6,000 showers provided to our homeless • Almost 300 homeless people were visited in the streets and trails providing food, clean clothes and blankets - providing hope and opportunities to get off the streets.
God’s work is being done at NVCS and you can help it continue by generously supporting our runners in this year’s LA Marathon. Please help us continue to serve those in need in our community. – Ric Wilson
Mission & Outreach
Stop Living Like It Doesn’t Matter. What if you only had one month to live? How would you make each day really matter? What would you start, or stop, doing? How would you relate to others?
One Month to Live empowers you to focus on being who God created you to be – passionate, fully alive, living without regrets.
Develop your spiritual growth in a small comfortable environment with caring people. We learn about God and each other together. Come join us!
You can purchase the book in the church office.

Church and Society Movie Night
How does God move us to embrace His purpose for our lives? On Monday, February 12, at 7:00 PM in the Kendall Building, Church and Society will screen "All Saints." Based on actual events, "All Saints" is a movie about a salesman-turned-pastor of a tiny Anglican church in Tennessee who has been ordered to “shut it” down. He attempts to save the church as well as refugees from Southeast Asia. This 2017 movie is rated PG and runs for 108 minutes. This movie is open to all.
Eat Out Monday Monday, February 12 (All Day) Maria’s Italian Kitchen 9161 Reseda Blvd. Northridge (in Vons Shopping Center) Maria’s Italian Kitchen will donate 20% of all sales to NUMC’s Family Ministry Program. Please take a flyer with you.
Meet and Greet Our New Youth Director Sunday, February 11 11 AM in the Fellowship Hall This is a chance to meet Jason Obermeier formally, ask questions, see what may be in the works for Jr.-Sr. high youth, and write your email down. Jason will be at a back table in the fellowship Hall following worship February 11 (with some extra snacks too!) so come and say hello, before joining the snack sack family ministry event in the fireside room.
