It’s mid-summer and we

are feeling the heat! I hope

you are staying “cool”.

I’d like to expres our

heart-felt thankfulness and

gratitude to Bill and Mary

Newbold for hosting another

fabulous summer party for

the hospital Auxiliary, at their

lovely home.

On a bitter-sweet note,

we wished Gaby Evans

well, as she will shortly be

retiring from her position as

Volunteer Coordinator. We

will MISS YOU, Gaby.

This really isn’t Goodbye. This is just a heartfelt “Thanks for the memories”. From the first minute I stepped foot into Northridge Hospital and met sweet little Elsie Byron at the Information Desk, who instructed me to “Sit down and wait, because I’m in the middle of an emergency!” Until my last day here when I turn my keys over to Mrs. Grace Leland, and pass the baton to Karen Sabatino, I’ve felt so blessed and proud to be involved with the BEST hospital in the world, and the GREATEST volunteers in the universe!

My dream is to catch up on my sleep, housework, sleep, yardwork, sleep, Christmas crafts and shopping, sleet, and I’ll return soon as one of your peers and volunteer in any area where we can continue to achieve Dignity Health’s mission of Humankindness.

The 2017 Summer Party was well attended despite the heat earlier in the day. President Bessie Wilson presented retiring Volunteer Coordinator Gaby Evans with a token of the Auxiliary’s appreciation of her service.

SPOTLIGHT

Vicki Torres Spotlight Reporter

One of Northridge Hospital’s most dedicated volunteers, Dorothy Lake, has been an active member for over 31 years donating her time at least twice a week at the Farr Lobby Information Desk. She is the first person who greets and interacts with patients and visitors when they arrive at the hospital, making their first impression a positive experience. Dorothy continues to give endless hour of her time serving the Auxiliary Board. She currently plays an active role in the selection of scholarship recipients and other special donation the Auxiliary provides to individuals pursuing a healthcare education.

Dorothy, one of seven children, was born in North Dakata and spent her childhood in Oregon. Her outside interests include gardening where her green thumb really does magic with her display of flowers throughout her property. She also loves classical music and is very involved with a non-profit organization called “Inspiring Notes where she serves on their board. Dorothy is a real travel bug and always

has her suitcase at arms reach to jet off to Paris to visit one of her sons who is lucky enough the live there. She also goes to Oregon several times each year to reunite with her sisters.

Widowed after 29 years of marriage with the passing of her first husband in a tragic accident, Dorothy raised their four sons. But cupid struck again with her meeting Bill Lake and they shared 28 years of martial bliss. For years, Bill was an active member of our hospital’s Foundation Board. With a vacancy on the

board, Dorothy was asked to replace Bill and gladly accepted with no reservations. Bill and Dorothy were a striking couple and turned heads wherever they went.

Dorothy Lake is just an example of one of the many fine volunteers at Northridge Hospital who all strive to meet our common goal of sharing “Hello Humankindness.”

As we share in the celebration of Gaby Evan’s coming retirement, please join us for her Retirement Party on Friday, August 4 from 3:00 - 4:30 PM in the Education Auditorium.

Also, I would like to introduce Karen Sabatino, the new Volunteer Coordinator. Karen has worked at Northridge Hospital for 7 years, is married and has two daughters. Please give your warm welcome to Karen.
