MERRY MEMOS

As we all go through our day, let us remember the impact we have for each other and how we can always make a difference.

Thank you to our Volunteer Family for your values in “Kindness”.

Hello Humankindness As humans we are such social beintgs

that our relationships can affect our health. They affect your happiness, too. Kindness offers us a tool to make and keep those human connections. Suddenly we create a sense of “we”, a link between individuals that strengthens both. And the spiritual bond is what makes understanding and communication possible.

We have the opportunity each day to quiet our minds, reach out with our hearts, and meet someone right where they are, in their reality, so they feel less alone. If we are kind to just one person today, we create happiness for two: them and ourselves. Think of the possibilities if everyone did this. Think about the change we could create in the world. Being kind is taking a stand against pessimism by easing the pain of others. Then we ourselves become stronger, happier and healthier people.

FAMOUS QUOTES ABOUT BEER

"Sometimes, when I reflect on all the beer I drink, I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I did not drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. I think, it is better to drink this beer and let their dreams come true, than be selfish and

worry about my liver.Babe Ruth

"When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up

reading".Paul Horning

"24 hours in a day and 24 beers in a case.

Coincidence? I think not".H. L. Mencken

"When we drink, we get drunk. When we get drunk, we fall asleep. When we fall asleep, we commit no sin. When we commit no sin, we go to heaven. So, let's all

get drunk and go to heaven".George Bernard Shaw

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be

happy".Benjamin Franklin

"Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, But the wheel does not

go nearly as well with pizza".Dave Barry

Remember "I" before "E," except in Budweiser.Professor Irwin Corey

“To some it is a six-pack. To me, it is a Support

Group. Salvation in a can”.Leo Durocher

SPOTLIGHT

Aside from her devotion to her family, Valerie Kohler’s top priority is her love and involvement with Northridge Hospital where she has been active for twelve years in our Auxiliary.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Valerie and her family moved to California when her husband, Frank, had a great career opportunity. She is extremely proud and close to her two sons Brian and Christopher. Experiencing the “empty nest” syndrome when the boys flew the coop, Valerie need an outside interest so she decided to volunteer at Northridge. She didn’t know a soul here, just went in cold turkey and interviewed with Mary Grim. Immediately she knew she wanted to give her time to this wonderful hospital.

Valerie’s outside interest include traveling, reading and getting to know people. Here at the hospital, she has done just about everything including being President of our Auxiliary and serving as Recording Secretary. She has volunteered in NICU, the Escort Office and is currently working in our Gift Shop. Valerie is very active on the Northridge Hospital Foundation Board where she held the position of Vice-Chair and then moved to the top of the totem pole following her election to serve as Chair, the first female to have that honor at Northridge Hospital. Valerie remains very active on the Foundation Board.

In her other life, prior to her move to sunny California, Valerie became the first woman selected to be Vice President of a multi-national insurance firm in which she was working.

Valerie is a hard working volunteer, a generous supporter of our hospital and alwas has a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone she meets.
