From the President ~ Hello Everyone. Well, here we are experiencing the heat of the summer! Triple digit heat again. I hope you are staying cool, “chilling-out” and staying hydrated during these mini-hot spells that we are enduring. As the Auxiliary takes a brief break during the summer months; it time for vacation fun and relaxation. I hope you have plans to enjoy some down time; whether with family, friends or some much needed solitude just for you. The summer can be a time of renewal and rejuvenation. Remember when we were kids and couldn’t wait for the summer fun to begin and we felt cheated when summer ended! Oh, the childhood memories. Okay, back to reality: The Auxiliary will resume regular meetings in September as noted in the Reminder Dates on page four. Meanwhile, the Auxiliary is actively looking for new members and volunteers. Spread the word to your family and friends. They may be available to share some Humankindness right here at Northridge Hospital. and we felt cheated when summer ended!

Oh, the childhood memories.

Okay, back to reality: The Auxiliary will

VOLUNTEER NEWS

Well summer is flying by so quickly. We had six students from Cleveland High School at AOAT program here for six weeks. Every student had to serve a minimum of 120 hours and complete a project relating to their experience here. We had one very dedicated student who volunteered over 160 hours in six weeks! Many of them started in the Escort OOffice while they got used to the hospital and others were placed in various units such as pediatrics, telemetry and rehab.

We are starting to expand our volunteers to other nursing units who have not had volunteers previously. I will start interviewing for new volunteers in August and already have many applications.

I hope everyone is having a happy and healthy summer.

GIFT SHOP NEWS

Hello Friends,

We are certainly in the Dog Days of summer. I hope your are hydrating and staying cool.

On that note, I have had a couple of people approach me regarding our Volunteer summer attire. Summer, winter and anything in between should always be professional. If sleeveless, come with a light sweater. If it’s too hot working in the Gift Shop it’s okay to remove it. Shoes must be safe. No thongs or flip-flops.

I would like to thank you all for your continued professional demeanor and kindness. I attended a class recently: Hospital in Health Care, “Hospital Hospitality”. This is not new to us. I see you all in action every day.

The new initiative is “HELLO” as an acronym as follows:

H Humankindness Smile and introduce

E Eye Contact Acknowledge

L Listen Focus your attention

L Learn Understand their needs

O Offer Assistance Provide assistance

If you have any questions or concerns, please visit. We always have our doors open.

Fondly,
