Talent: Vocal; Good Morning Baltimore from Hairspray.Scholastic Ambition:

In the fall, I plan to attend Northern Ken-tucky University as a member of the Hon-ors College to pursue a major in Journalism with a possible minor in psychology.Career Ambition: Af-ter graduating from Northern Kentucky University, I plan to

become a journalist with a focus on poli-tics, social justice, and mental health.

Issue of Concern (Platform): My entire life I have struggled with what I thought was just stereotypical anxiety and depres-sion. As a child, I was labelled as “quiet,” “shy,” or “worrisome,” but in reality, it was my mental illness manifesting at a young age. Catherine Taylor Thompson#2Name: Catherine Taylor Thompson

Contestant Number: 2

Parents: Brad and Jessica Thompson

Talent: Archery Routine

Scholastic Ambition: I will attend Eastern Kentucky University (as a member of their Honors Program) to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. I then plan on furthering my edu-cation by obtaining a doc-torate in Physical Therapy. Career Ambition: After graduating from Eastern Kentucky University with my doctorate degree, I plan on practicing at a local phys-ical therapy clinic with the goal of one day opening up

my very own clinic. I want to specialize in patients with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, a nerve disorder that I have.

Issue of Concern (Plat-form): Statistics have con-tinued to grow in record breaking numbers in recent years of people with invis-ible illnesses. 10% of Ameri-cans struggle with an illness that no one can physically see. 96% percent of those struggling with a chronic illness live with one that is invisible. As one of those 96% of Americans, I can attest that having a chronic medical condition with no cure in sight is hard enough, but having one that cannot be seen with the naked eye is even worse. I have been told on multiple occasions

that I was “faking it for the attention” or that I was “just trying to get handouts.” As if navigating life as a 15-year-old with an illness that I didn’t even understand my-self wasn’t hard enough, I had to be knocked down by students, “friends,” and even some of my teachers. Peo-ple in today’s society are so quick to judge, even though they have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. People should be more ac-cepting of others dealing with invisible demons every single day. You may not be able to see what that person is going through, but I know for a fact that when you hear these things from people you once thought the world of, you begin to even doubt yourself. I have lost so many “friends” and so many role

models throughout this journey. I will continue fighting with the hundreds of others that are in my ex-act same shoes. In order to achieve acceptance even in the smallest towns, people should become more aware of illnesses and disorders that are unable to be seen physically. As Miss Bath County I would advocate for those people and spread awareness to invisible ill-nesses. Seeing people be-lieve in you and show that they are behind you is the best feeling when fighting these demons. I plan on showing everyone going through these terrible times that there is someone be-hind them and believing in them throughout their jour-neys.

Jenna Brooke Copher#3Name: Jenna Brooke Co-pher Contestant Number: 3Parents: Shane and Car-men Copher Talent: Trumpet; “Zoot Suit Riot” by The Cherry Poppin’ Daddies.

Scholastic Ambition: I will attend Maysville Commu-nity and Technical Col-lege then transfer to the University of Kentucky to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Biomedi-cal Engineering.Career Ambition: To at-tend the University of Kentucky College of Phar-macy and pursue a career as a pharmacist. I want to

develop new types of med-icine to help people with diseases and/or illnesses that do not have many op-tions for treatments.

Issue of Concern (Plat-form): My issue of con-cern is raising aware-ness for Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that occurs when a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, which is what controls a person’s blood sugar. I can per-sonally relate to this, as I was diagnosed at the age of 9. There is no cure for T1D, it can only be man-aged. There are nearly 1.6 million Americans with

T1D, which is up 30% since 2017. It is important to raise awareness of the symptoms of the disease so it can be caught before any damage is done to the body. For me, I was lucky to be involved in many sports so my activity kept my blood sugar from harming my body how-ever, I know people who discovered they were dia-betic after spending weeks in the hospital because of the damage the high blood sugar had caused. It is also important to educate peo-ple on what to do if they are ever around someone who is experiencing symptoms of Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) or hypoglycemia

(low blood sugar.) In the past, I have helped raise awareness by participating in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, and the Ameri-can Diabetes Association walk. I plan to continue to be involved with this is-sue by creating social me-dia platforms and doing events in the community to raise awareness. No-vember is National Dia-betes Awareness Month, so I would love to have an event to raise money for JDRF. In the future, I plan to work to try to find more treatment options for peo-ple with type one diabetes, and hopefully one day aid in finding a cure!

brookelynn michelle hardin#4Name: Brookelynn Michelle Hardin Contestant: 4Parents: Allen and Chrissy Hardin Talent: “ Dance; Dancing Through the Decades”.

Scholastic Ambition: I plan to attend Morehead State University in the fall of 2021 to obtain a degree in radiologic science. Career Ambition: After graduating from Morehead State University, my profes-sional goal is to become a radiologist. In this career, I will use Xray, MRI and ul-

trasound technologies to create images in order to examine, diagnose and even treat patients medical con-ditions. Once accepted to a hospital, I plan on return-ing to Morehead State Uni-versity to obtain a degree in medical sonography so I can work with Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Issue of Concern (Plat-form): I have always strug-gled with my body image. It has been a struggle for me through my time in school. I have been bullied over my weight and have been told

that I was fat and ugly. I still have trouble with my body image today but I have learned you can heal from your scars. According to Park Nicollet Melrose Cen-ter Statistics show that 80% of women don't like the way they look as well as 34% of men. This is something I want to help others with. I plan on making a social me-dia account to help women or men feel more comfort-able with themselves. I want to let people know that they are not alone and can be helped with the way they feel about themselves. In

the social media account, I plan to build a strong com-munity of people who are willing to reach out to oth-ers who are struggling with depression or social anxiety ect.,because body shaming is a real thing and if we can reach out to others and let them know that they are beautiful inside and out. Then maybe all this bully-ing about weight and body image percentage could go down.

chynah simone#5Name: Chynah Simone Thompson Contestant Number: 5

Parents: Timothy and Rachelle Thompson

Talent: Classical Ballet Variation; “Esmerelda”

Scholastic Ambition: Upon high school gradua-tion, I plan to attend More-head State University to obtain my post Bachelor’s degree in P-5 Education.Career Ambition: After graduating from More-head State University, I hope to return to my community where I will not only serve as a teach-er for early elementary grade levels, but as a posi-tive role model, source of strength, and a friend to

my students.

Issue of Concern (Plat-form): As of 2018, the Census Bureau gathered that 9% of Kentucky chil-dren live with someone other than their parents; this statistic is double the national rate. Often these same children are left with the feelings of fear, uncer-tainty, and self-doubt. For these reasons, I firmly be-lieve that schools should go the extra mile to fill the gap. Elementary schools today are transitioning to new schedules modeled af-ter middle and high school settings with hopes of pre-paring young students for what is to come. However, when dealing with such an impressionable age group, schools should focus more on the present. In order

to achieve this, schools need to continue to cre-ate a safe, family-like en-vironment where teachers can not only educate but care for their students. Personally, I plan on be-coming a teacher myself to help combat this issue. I will use my position to serve as an advocate for the well being of my stu-dents’ mental and physical health. I will also lead by example, encouraging oth-

ers in the education field to care for more than just their students’ educational needs. In the meantime, I plan to continue to serve my community’s children by teaching lower elemen-tary level classes at both my church and ballet stu-dio. Here I will maintain the same philosophy that I have set for future class-rooms.

Morgan brooke reed#6Name: Morgan Brooke Reed Contestant Number: #6Parents: Clay and Ann Reed Talent: Magic Performance

Scholastic Ambition: I will attend Morehead State Uni-versity in the fall of 2021, to major in Biology. Upon graduation I will pursue my future endeavors at Auburn University College of Vet-erinary Medicine to obtain a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Career Ambition: After grad-uating vet school, I plan to become a vet, specializing in large animals. It would be ideal for me to keep liv-ing in my beloved hometown of Owingsville, opening my own veterinary office.

Issue of Concern (Platform): My entire life I have been a plus sized girl. In the world we live in today, this is some-thing that is not always re-spected. Unfortunately, I suf-fer from a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) that affects up to 10% of women in child bear-ing ages. PCOS is essentially a hormonal disorder that af-fects the ovaries. This condi-tion possesses symptoms that include: weight gain, difficul-ty losing weight, infertility, acne, depression, excessive hair growth, and many more negative tokens. For the lon-gest time I let the symptoms of this condition define who I was. I have always struggled

with liking who I was on the outside and inside and always felt that I would be a better person and athlete if I was skinny. I finally decided that no matter the amount of weight I put on (or the amount of acne I had) could not define who I truly am as a person. What truly defines me as a person is how kind, humorous, witty and intelli-gent I am. In spite of PCOS, I have the most confidence I have ever had and I want to help others achieve the poise mindset that I have worked so hard on, no matter their circumstances. I think it is so important for everyone to truly love themselves for how imperfectly perfect they are. I have done several things

to spread the word to the younger people of my gener-ation that everyone is worthy of self love and confidence. I believe that loving who you are starts at a young age, so I started there. My favorite experience so far has been meeting elementary age chil-dren (3rd grade to 5th grade) via Zoom to talk to them about how words do hurt and everyone has their own battles that sometimes can-not be seen. The main point of all my lessons was that every child in the room de-served to look at themselves in the mirror and be proud and confident of who they saw staring back at them, in-side and out.

Jesselin starr miller#7Name: Jesselin Starr Mill-er Contestant Number: 7 Parents: Anthony and Jes-sie MillerTalent: dancing/ bat trick performance.

Scholastic Ambition: I plan to attend Maysville Community and Tech-nical College to obtain my associates degree as a medical laboratory tech-nician. Career Ambition: After graduating from Maysville Community and Techni-cal College, I will start my life journey and obtain a job in a hospital as a medi-cal laboratory technician.

Issue of Concern (Plat-form): To raise awareness for the Neonatal Inten-sive Care Unit (NICU). My niece, Ava, was in the NICU for the first nine days of her life. It was the longest and most nerve racking nine days of our lives! I designed and im-plemented an Instagram page called Blankets for Babes (@blanketsforb-abes_jessmiller) . Dona-tions are collected for babies in the NICU, and then donated to various hospitals. Some items I’ve collected are blankets, cards, onesies, snacks, and toys. So far our little com-

munity has helped me so much make this thought in my head come to a real-ity. In January I was able to donate everything on my list and more to UK Chil-dren's Hospital. I’ve been extremely blessed to have such a caring and help-ful community like mine! By doing all of this I have raised awareness in my community that more ba-bies are in the NICU than we actually think and need a little extra help. On April 20 my softball team had a strikeout cancer game for pediatric cancer. I was extremely blessed to be able to help raise money for our children and be a

part of the game. For the remainder of the season I will have both yellow and purple Shoelaces in my cleats honoring the babies in the NICU and pediat-ric cancer. It’s important to understand that each and every baby is there for many different rea-sons whether they’ve been there since birth, or there because they’ve recently become sick. My main goal is to make sure the parents know they aren't alone in this tough time. It takes a village sometimes, but I'm eager to help in ev-ery way I can!
