Kunkel Simmental Sale - 2- Feb. 6, 2015

Welcome. . . .On behalf of Kunkel Simmentals, I welcome all of you to our annual bull & female sale. We are a family-run operation that raises both purebred and commercial cattle, along with small grains.

In the past, we were members of the Dakota Xpress group. However, due to some unforeseen health issues I experienced in 2013, we decided to slow down and part ways with Dakota Xpress. I would like to thank both the Hansen and Staigle families for the opportunity that they gave me the last four years.

The bulls are getting fed a ration that consists of chopped hay, corn silage, dis-tillers, grain corn, and a complete mineral package. All of the crops are home grown. The only things that are purchased are the distillers and the mineral. We fed the same ration to the bulls last year and we had excellent feedback on how the bulls held up through the breeding season.

Herd health is a big priority to us. All the calves receive Vista Once SQ, 7-Way/Somnus, and are injected with Dectomax in May. Then on September 2, they were given BoviShield Gold-One Shot and 7-Way/Somnus. The bulls were weaned September 26 and received booster shots of Bovi-Shield Gold 5, So-mubac, poured with Dectomax, and Valbazen. The bred heifers in the offering have been ultrasound tested for pregnancy, poured with Dectomax, and have received Virashield 6 + VL5 HB and first round of Scourguard 4KC. They will be boostered the week of the sale.

We have decided to go with a video auction at this year’s sale. The bulls will not go through a traditional sales ring; instead, there will be big screen TVs playing video of each lot as it is being sold. The bulls will be penned right outside for everyone’s viewing. This format has become quite popular and we are excited to offer it at our sale. The sale will also be broadcast over the internet at www.dvauction.com.

The bulls will be at the ranch until February 3rd; then they will be moved 1.5 miles north to the sale facility. Watch for signs.
