It’s a new year and according to one survey, 90% of us will make resolutions. Unfortunately, over three quarters of those individuals will fail to follow through.

70% of New Year’s resolutions are health related (stop smoking, lose weight, exercise more, etc.) The vast majority of what’s left concern our relationships or finances.

If you choose to make resolutions this year, don’t neglect adding spiritual goals to your list. Jonathan Edwards was a Christian preacher, philosopher, and theologian in the 1700’s. He was also considered one of early America’s greatest intellectuals.

Edwards once made this list of resolutions for himself:

3 To live with all my might while I do live.

3 Never to lose one moment of time.

3 Never to do anything which I should despise, or think meanly of another.

3 Never to do anything out of revenge.

3 Never to do anything which I should be afraid to do if it were the last hour of my life.

This 2-day gathering will bring women together from around the world to wrestle with the belief that God is real, the places in our lives where we are struggling with unbelief, how can we overcome unbelief, and then what God can do with our belief. Leaders of this gathering include Jennie Allen, Jen Hatmaker, Ann Voskamp and many others. A donation of $25 is suggested when you register at the IF: Gathering site to help them cover the costs of the simulcast. CMfi ethiopiaCMFI Ethiopia – Derek and Hannah Base completed their first year of service with CMFI Urban Ministry team in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Hannah served as a hospice nurse and Derek taught English in a partner’s school and worked to disciple children and youth under the ministry of “Strong Hearts for Africa,” the local CMFI partner. Derek and Hannah are returning to Addis in January for another assignment in the Church planting and support ministry of CMFI. They will be filling-in for other team members on medical leave and are still praying about future ministry.

internship with CruNicole Staggs, a member of CCC, recently relocated to CRU (formerly Campus Crusade) national headquarters to serve a one-year internship. She was given a grant by the Missions’ Ministry to help with her internship. She is serving as support staff for CRU’s Global Missions ministry focused on high school students.

new CaMpus MinistriesTwo couples who have close ties to CCC have accepted full-time campus ministry positions at WSU and K-State this fall and were approved for Missions’ Ministry support. David and Katie Hardy joined the CRU campus ministry at K-State in mid-August. This couple is working on campus with a ministry called “ C o m m u n i t y Groups.” These are the university’s equivalent of life or discipleship groups consisting of 15–20 students, living in or near a geographic area of campus. This young couple was blessed with a daughter (Roosevelt Bloom) on August 23rd.

Rob and Tara Boyle joined the campus ministry of the Navigators this fall serving on the WSU campus. This ministry has been working on the WSU campus for two years now, and has a group of approximately 25

short-terM Missions tripsfor 2015The short-term missions’ trips planned for 2015 include Haiti, Mexico City, Guatemala, Honduras, and Canada. There were 34 individuals who signed-up during Missions Weekend indicating possible interest in these trips. Also, the opportunity also exists to send a women’s leadership conference team from CCC to India next fall. The deadline to sign-up for the five missions trips for 2015 is January 30. The initial meetings for trip orientation and training will be scheduled in early to mid-February. Intuitive passion for innovation began early for Austin Mann. “Even as a kid I was incessantly starting things—from business ideas to new ways of fixing people’s computers.”

As an 8-year-old, Austin began in Photoshop and eventually spent thousands of hours building websites and tinkering with the earliest versions of Flash on his trusty 1998 Bondi Blue iMac he bought with savings from mowing lawns and working on neighbor’s computers. Fifteen Macs later, Austin still loves to explore, invent, and tirelessly test all things “tech”.

After picking up his first camera as a sophomore in college, Austin’s eye for capturing the splendor of Creation, along with his proclivity as an early-adopter has taken him on a fascinating journey to every corner of the globe.

Austin’s work has been widely published in both corporate to 10

non-profit worlds, from National Geographic and the Travel Channel, to Samaritan’s Purse and the Global Poverty Project. Over the years, his wide range of experience has enabled him to organize and teach workshops worldwide on how to leverage photography and storytelling to dignify people, build communities and promote changes.

Austin’s skill-set is best described as a Gladwell-esque concoction of creator, storyteller, educator, consul tant , entrepreneur, technician, thought leader, and behind-the-scenes maven...the proverbial “square peg” artist in the “round hole” world of professional nomenclature.

However—and perhaps in spite of—his dexterity in a number of fields, the native Kansan is ultimately compelled by an unrelenting passion to equip and empower the people around him to dream bigger and create better.

Austin’s belief in this magic—the kind that is sparked within in tent iona l , co l labor at i ve community —birthed the vision for his latest entrepreneurial pur suit : WELD, a curated collective of freelance ar tists who work and create together. WELD’s flagship studio is located in Dallas, Texas, with an up-and-coming Nashville collaborative workspace opening at the beginning of 2015.

Austin is the son of Pastor David and Rhonda Mann, and the grandson of CH and Annette Hermon. He is a graduate of Central Christian Academy, Trinity Academy, and Baylor University.

The start of a new year brings thoughts of major accomplishments and events in our lives. But the little things in life are also important and can have as much impact as the major events in our lives. Jesus reminded us of this when He talked about the way God takes care of the ravens by being faithful to feed them every day, even when they do not have any resources.

The HHH volunteers and staff members are constantly looking for ways to bless our needy clients. Some of these blessings could be classified as “the little things in life,” but they end up having a profound impact on the recipients of the blessings.

At one of the recent food distributions, a family came for some food and the volunteers gave the son a birthday cake in their box of food. The mother sent a thank you note the next day and wrote, “I want to thank you for providing food for my family. Your staff let my son pick out a birthday cake last night. My husband’s birthday is this Sunday. My son was so proud to give his Dad a cake last night for his birthday. I know we celebrated early, but the look on both faces was worth it. This year just hasn’t been the easiest for us and last night it was special to see father and son bond. Thank you again”.

furniture and dishes she had received. When she returned home, she opened the box of dishes to put them away and began to cry. She expected to find plates, forks, spoons and knives in the box, but she did not anticipate the other things she found: salt & pepper shakers, cook books, place mats and several other “little things” that she would be able to use in her home. The kindness that was offered to her in her time of need was very overwhelming for her. She called the office to thank the dear people who placed those things in her box.

Simply smiling at a client or praying with a donor after picking up their donations are other simple ways to show the love of Jesus Christ to others. We don’t always know what is going on with them, but simple acts of kindness can go a long way in meeting their spiritual and emotional needs.

Apply “The Story” Through LifeGroups Discipleship best happens in community and January is an ideal time to connect to a LifeGroup. Our sermon series of “The Story” has been a wonderful opportunity to learn and be reminded of God’s story of redemption from the beginning of time. LifeGroups present the opportunity to dig deeper and make application for God’s truth in everyday life, and make new friends in the process.

“The Story” will continue through the first weekend in May, with the New Testament beginning the weekend of March 1. If you haven’t begun reading “The Story,” books are still available for $5. You can jump in where the study is currently, and it will be easy to catch up as the book is broken down into 31 chapters. The birth of Jesus Christ is fresh on our minds. Jesus came to this earth as a small bundle of humanity. But His life, death and resurrection have had the most profound effect on this world than any other event in history. At HHH, we simply want to help others by offering small acts of kindness and sharing the love of Jesus Christ with them along the way. Thank you for helping us to do this!
