Last year a NASA

scientist, Dr. Joan

Vernikos authored a

book advocating that

all-day movement is a

must when it comes to

good health. Her study

of astronauts in space

led her to the conclusion

that low-intensity,

gravity challenging daily

movements will contribute

to a long and vigorous life.

James, the half-brother

of Jesus and the author

of the Bible book by his

name, offered similar

advice. Put your Christian

faith into action. The

basis of our faith is what

God did for us through

His Son Jesus. We just

celebrated the resurrection

last month. Jesus’ death

opened the doors of

heaven and gave us all the

opportunity for eternal

life. But the evidence of

our faith is what we do for

God every day. It is seen in

how we live, lives we touch,

the fruit of the Spirit

exhibited, and our desire

to share Jesus with those

who do not know Him.

This month we will

conclude the sermon

series, “Organic. Life as

God Intended.” Focusing

on the last two chapters of

James, we shall study what

promotes and encourages

that pure life, the holy

life God wants for all of

His children. Movements

like prayer, patience and

submission to God.

All-day movement

contributes to a long and

healthy life on this earth.

But “God movements” in

our daily lives reflect an

eternal life that awaits us

in heaven.

Since 2003, KAKEland has awarded over 400 Golden Apple trophies honoring educators in the KAKEland viewing area who are making a positive difference in our local schools. With this program, teachers receive community wide recognition for the creative ways they support, motivate and encourage a lifetime of learning, in and out of the classroom. Central Christian Academy is proud to share that our middle school

A Global Gospel in a World of ReligionsFriday, April 29, 2016 » 5:30 pm - 11:30 pm EDT » C3 Youth Center

This Year’s Topic:

A multiplicity of religions exists in the world, all claiming to hold the truth (or at least some truth) about who we are, how we got here, what we’re doing, and where we’re going. Billions of people believe in Christianity, while others embrace Islam. Some are Hindu and others are Buddhist. Amidst it all, many are atheist, or at the very least agnostic.

So how are we to think and what are we to do in this massive marketplace of religious ideas?

Is there one right way to believe or are there many right ways to believe?

Is there one right way to live or are there many right ways to live?

Specifically, how does the gospel of Christ compare and contrast with other world religions?

And if we believe this gospel, then how should we share it specifically with people of other faiths?

For that matter, why would we share it specifically with people of other faiths?

During this Secret Church, we will explore the claims of Christ in the gospel and consider how these claims inform the way we understand religions and cults in the world and impact the way we live when surrounded by varied believers with diverse belief systems.

To register: click on the secret church icon at www.ccc.org

Cost: $7 before April 17 » $10 after

We will accept registrations at the door, but workbook will not be guaranteed.

An optional meal will be provided when ordered by April 27. Cost TBD

CHRIST REACHING ASIA MISSIONS:

HElpING THE HOpElESS — CAMbOdIAThey are helpless, hopeless people. In the Bible, we read of Jesus’ compassion for them, healing them of this awful disease called leprosy. Today CRAM reaches out in the name of Jesus to help the lepers in Stung Treng, Cambodia. Though the disease is curable, the cure takes a long time and there is nothing that can restore what has been taken away from those afflicted. Most lepers in this region live in makeshift huts in the mountains, after being driven away by the community where they used to live. They can’t get jobs, and have difficulty caring for themselves.

Since Cambodia is a religious free country, we are happy to be able to openly preach and teach about Jesus, and baptize believers into Him. We praise God for Pastor C.Y. Kim and others who are willing to work with CRAM to take on this difficult task which will make an eternal difference for many souls.

Prayer Requests: Though the task is bigger than any of us, our God is bigger than the task! Please

pray and ask Him to strengthen us, guide us, and provide what we need to do this work that He’s placed before us. We need prayer warriors who will daily take us before the Father. Pray for Patricia Kim, as she deals with painful heath issues regarding her back and hip. Pray for C.Y. Kim, as he prepares to return to the mission field for several month. (Taken from “The Trumpet Sounding,” February 2016 — Field Report by Christ Reaching Asia Mission.)

wyClIffE bIblE TRANSlATORS:

THE vAllEy Of dRy bONES — kENyAJoseph has translated many of the Old Testament books during his 17 years as a translator. But the book of Ezekiel was one of the most challenging because of the numerous new ideas and measurements that

the book introduces.

In spite of its challenges, the book of Ezekiel has deeply touched Joseph’s heart and life. In particular one of the most powerful images that he recalls during his translation was the passage

continued on page 8

about the valley of dry bones. “The bones were very dry and there was no hope that they would live again,” Joseph recalls. “God said to Ezekiel to prophesy, and he did it according to the Word of God.” Joseph also learned four things from the passage: “God can call whoever He wants, and He is not restricted by circumstances; God can do what is impossible to man; He wants to partner with us to accomplish His goal; and He does the impossible in order for people to know Him and for His own glory.”

A COlORful dEdICATION — CAMEROONAt a Bible study in her own language, a woman named Marie heard the story of the blind man who was healed by Jesus. When Pharisees asked the man how he had been healed, the man explained that he did not know how Jesus worked — he only knew that he was once blind, and now could see! After the Bible study concluded, Marie approached one of the teachers and surrendered her life to Christ, saying, “If He could heal a blind man, then I have hope that he can also heal my broken heart.” (Taken from Infocus, Vol. 21 — Field Report by Wycliffe.)

MuSTARd SEEdCHRISTIAN CHuRCH:

NEw CHuRCH plANT — kObEMustard Seed Christian Church is excited to announce the plan to launch a new church in Kobe, Japan, which is one of the three urban centers that is home to 19.3 million people. A passionate and gifted missionary named Kevin West, and his wife Nozomi, will lead the launch. Ethan & Audrey Greer will join them. Please

MISSIONS continued front page 8 pray for these couples and their families as they seek to make disciples in this area.

THE jOy OfGIvING – OSAkADespite being a, generally speaking, wealthy nation, Japanese society does not have strong culture of charitable giving. New Christians get to learn the joy of giving, motivated by God’s generosity toward in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 8:9). In January, Mustard Seed Christian Church in Osaka, Japan, saw a significant increase in the church’s giving, nearly meeting the monthly operating expenses of the church, excluding personnel. The size of the community has also grown to nearly a 100 person weekly average. Please pray that God will motivate Christians to joyfully sacrifice for God’s kingdom because of the gift God has given them in Jesus.

...because there needs to be a place where the church just gets together to talk through bible-based answers to the questions they have.

Questions like: “Why does this happen? What does God mean when the bible says that? Why do some churches teach this and other churches teach that?”

EVERYBODY has questions...but most of the time NOBODY has a place they can go to ask those questions and discuss them.

Theologue will try to be that place.

We meet every Thursday eveningat 7:00 in the Chapel.

We have a great time together! Hope you’ll come!

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, “This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year. Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household. The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect. Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the people of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight. Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs...and when I see the blood, I will pass over you.” Exodus 12:1–3, 5–6, 13 niv

It has been said that one may not fully appreciate their redemption in the Messiah until they come to a better understanding of the ordinance of Passover. If this is true, the many nuances of this beautiful festival deserve a closer look. At first blush, the story of Passover seems dark and mysterious, harsh and even bloody, but as we look deeper, we begin to see promise, hope and redemption. What more could an epic story require to deliver its message?

One of my favorite threads in the story is that of the lamb.

“Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household” (Exodus 12:3).

While the story tells of millions of Hebrews and large Egyptian armies—suddenly, the word makes t h i s o r d i n a n c e v e r y personal. Each family must participate in the plan for redemption. Not their synagogue, not their government—but each member of a family must take part.

We are told that we have been redeemed out of

Passover: An Epic Storyby Hubie Shorb, Congregational LeaderL’Chaim B’Yeshua

sin—not with corruptible things such as silver and gold, but with the precious blood of the Messiah—as a lamb “without blemish or defect” (I Peter 1:19). Why? Because “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

W h i l e t h e n e e d f o r redemption was a national issue—the Almighty made it very personal. Each soul was to be examined, each heart searched for sin and a bond was to be developed between each person and The Lamb. God’s plan for

10

redemption, played out in each home, by each individual and the Glory of God made visible to all the people.

“...When I see the blood, I will pass over you” (Exodus 12:13).

Without the shedding of blood, there is no atonement. This is the centra l theme of the story of Passover and the Good News of the entire scriptures. Well before the time of Yeshua, the Prophets foretold that one would come and die for our sins. Although He would be sinless, it would please God to bruise Him and to lay upon Him the iniquity of us all (Isaiah 53).

Yeshua said, “I am the door; by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved” (John 10:9 kjv). Why? Because He is the Passover Lamb who has shed His blood so that when we apply it to the doorposts of our

heart, the Angel of Death passes over.

A Passover Seder? A time to hear the story, receive the promises and be blessed by the hope that is in our Messiah. Come, experience this timeless story and share in the promise that we can be redeemed!

Just The Facts!“Give an account of your stewardship…” Luke 16:2

Stewardship& accountability are very important concepts in the Bible. The ministry of His Helping Hands (HHH) fully intends to be good stewards of the time, talent and treasures that are entrusted to us.

Since our resources are limited, every distribution of furniture, appliances, computers and automobiles are based on referrals from churches, agencies, school case-workers and law enforcement personnel. These referrals help us to be good stewards of our resources by meeting the “neediest of the needs” in our community on a timely basis.

In the center column, I have listed the major items that were distributed by HHH to families in need over the course of 2015. In addition to these items, we distributed numerous articles of clothing, small appliances, small furniture items, other minor household items, toys and school supplies. All of the distributed items are made possible by your generous donations.

F ro m a n e nv i ro n m e n t a l perspective, if HHH or other collection sites were not around to accept these donations, the donated items would most likely end up in the local landfills. The combined weight of all HHH items distributed last year totaled over 1.6 million pounds or 825 tons! By repurposing these items to needy families, the items were kept out of the landfills. This is just one important aspect of the stewardship and accountability of God’s resources which are entrusted to HHH. We try to repurpose, reuse or recycle every item that is donated to the ministry of HHH.

Thank you for your donations! Without you, we would not be able to help the many families in our community that need a hand up. Our motto is, “We help people help people” all in the name of Jesus Christ! May God bless you for your kindness and concern for others.

During 2015, HHH distributed these major

items to familiesin need:

100 microwave ovens

54 stoves

66 washing machines

88 dryers

961 beds(twin, full, queen, king

& bunk beds)

472 dressers

467 sofas

made a promise to my children the day they were born. I promised to love them, protect

them, and most of all, I promised that I would never allow anything bad to happen to them. I quit working full time so they didn’t have to be in daycare. If I ever had to leave them, I would rush home to them; after all, I made a promise.

Last year, my son started having tummy aches. I still remember the doctor coming out of the recovery room after his procedure, and how confident I was that it WAS NOT Chron’s Disease, because I made that promise after all. After many visits to the doctor and multiple tests, he was given the diagnosis of Chron’s Disease by the specialist. I grappled with the news for several days. I was mad, sad, blamed myself, you name it, and I felt it. And, then something happened, I tackled this head on and I turned to the One, the only One would could help...Jesus!

Golf balls &a BrokenPromise

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:29-31.

The hardest part of this whole thing is knowing that I had broken my promise, and I couldn’t “fix” this for my son. I had to give my son over to the Lord and trust in His plan, not mine. I’m a “fixer” both personally and professionally, so this was tough. But, time after time, God provided me peace with our situation and it was Him who helped me remember to “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid of terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6.

I would be lying if I said I never worry. I get an uneasy feeling when I see the school nurse calling, or when I lose

i

by Alison N. Asher, LSCSW14

my focus on God, and I allow Satan to remind me of everything I should/could have done differently to prevent this from happening. That is why it is so important for me, us, to keep our eyes fixed on Christ, because Satan is just waiting for the opportunity to destroy us and our thoughts.

Denzel Goolsby, a friend of mine, received the Barry Sanders Male High School Athlete of the Year Award presented by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission in 2015. He gave his acceptance speech the day after his father passed away unexpectedly. I wanted to share parts of his speech which inspired and blessed me beyond belief. Denzel spoke about golf balls, and how when they were first made, they were completely smooth. As people started hitting them, they became dented, and they discovered the more dents the balls got, the farther they would go, the smoother it would sail and the longer you would be able to drive it. That is why golf balls are dented and dimpled, as we know them to be today. We are kind of like God’s golf ball. We get dented and we think it’s a bad thing, but really, it is just God redesigning us so we can go further in life.

I can honestly say that today, I’m truly grateful. I am grateful that our Precious Lord saved my son and family from something so much bigger. After all, in Jeremiah 29:11, God is very clear when He says, “For I know the plans I

have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

My family has fully accepted the healing that God has given our sweet boy. That doesn’t mean it is always easy, but it IS God’s plan. You are exactly where you are supposed to be at in this moment in time for a reason. It’s so easy to trust in the things we can see, but true faith means hanging on to God’s promises in the middle of the storm. He will rescue us, will never abandon us, and no one could love us more than He does.

The promise I made to my children to always keep them from harm was obviously one I could not keep. But, Gods’ promises cannot and will not ever be broken. So, when something difficult comes your way, hang on tight, fix your eyes on Jesus, and trust in God’s plan. And, as my wise friend, Denzel, mentioned, God isn’t throwing you off of the mountain, he is just redesigning you so that you can go further in life. I have fully accepted that I am officially “God’s Golf ball.” I pray the “dents” I have acquired through hard situations in life will offer hope to others, and above all else, give glory to God!

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans

to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

When the Sovereign tells His sons to “act like men,” we might assume that He will tell them how to accomplish that charge.

This we seek from Him as we look at His words to us in Ephesians 6:10–17 where He tells us to “...put on the full

armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

Join Pastor David Mann for the breakfast served, the coffee poured, the testimony given, and the encouragement of the brothers for the sake of the

kingdom of God.
