Handicapper’s Journal – Doug McPherson Sunday, November 24th 2019 Race 1 #3 Be the Change #5 Kapellmeister #2 Nupogodi #4 You’re Batman #3 BE THE CHANGE has had several good efforts this season behind horses that would likely beat this group. Stalker/closer should have pace to chase here. #5 KAPELLMEISTER took the plunge in for this price on November 8, finishing second after dueling for the lead. He is capable of racing off of the pace and may be better off doing that in this group. #2 NUPOGODI has been racing better recently as opposed to the start of the year. He was unlucky not to beat Kapellmeister for place last time out. #4 YOU’RE BATMAN removed blinkers eight days ago but did not improve; they go back on for this cutback in distance. Race 2 #6 Moon Magic #9 Am Prepared #7 Coolshade #5 Cape Nero #6 MOON MAGIC was claimed for this price on October 9 but was still in claiming jail for the November 8 race that several of these exit. He could be live with the added rest. #9 AM PREPARED stalked a glacial pace while racing wide and came up empty on November 1. He halves in value. #7 COOLSHADE closed from last to be a well- beaten second behind a class-plunger on November 8. Aside from his attempt in the Turf Endurance season finale his form since August has been quite good. #5 CAPE NERO rallied for a comfortable non-two win on November 1. He has previously been beaten by both Coolshade and Am Prepared. Race 3 #2 Where’s the Widget #5 Guitar George #3 Freitag #7 Sine Metu #2 WHERE’S THE WIDGET gets back to his preferred surface after finishing fourth as the pacesetter on the inner turf last time. He should be on the lead and could be tough to run down. #5 GUITAR GEORGE was likely the best horse in his most recent start but was troubled on the far turn before rallying strongly at the end. He is consistently a factor at this level. #3 FREITAG had a very wide trip in the same race Guitar George and came up empty. His prior form was very solid and he has the class to rebound. #7 SINE METU dropped in for $20,000 after his Turf Endurance series campaign and was able to rally for an easy win. He will likely take support as people know he will handle any distance. Race 4 #5 Stash the Cash #2 Charlie’s Game #1 Just Shoot Already #4 Second Encore #5 STASH THE CASH has been knocking on the door every start since dropping into the lower levels. This is likely an easier group than the last one he faced; the winner last time was a class-dropping, first-time gelding. #2 CHARLIE’S GAME was a vet-scratch when entered for $10,000 on November 8. He should improve off of his first start of the season with the plunge in value. #1 JUST SHOOT ALREADY debuted for $25,000 in June and was a non-threat. He has breezed steadily for his return. #4 SECOND ENCORE tried a $40,000 route for his local debut last week and was a non-factor. He has been competitive with more comparable company at Presque Isle. Race 5 #1 Awesome Tiger #9 Auburn Hills #7 Strike the Top #3 Viature #1 AWESOME TIGER was very game but just got outfinished on November 3. Three starts back he was beaten narrowly by Cadet Connelly, who returned to be second in the Summer. #9 AUBURN HILLS had some trouble on debut when finishing third in the same race that Awesome Tiger exits. Blinkers are added; he has been touted as one with a lot of upside. #7 STRIKE THE TOP has been training at Fair Hill in preparation for his debut. Full-brother Golden Sabre won the Durham Cup; Medaglio d’Oro hits at 13.5% with debuting juveniles. #3 VIATURE gave way to be fourth after dueling on the lead in his route debut on November 3. He has been competitive and seems to have the potential to keep moving forward. Race 6 #5 Clear Destination #1 Elusive Knight #2 Finalist #3 Talking #5 CLEAR DESTINATION was a very game second behind the well-regarded Corsi in his most recent start. He gets back to the synthetic; he did run a respectable second behind Mr Hustle over this surface earlier in the season. #1 ELUSIVE KNIGHT will be well-backed after winning his debut with ease, earning a field-best 82 Beyer. There is likely a lot of talent there; just depends on the price you’re willing to take. #2 FINALIST rallied to be fifth when making his synthetic debut in the Grey Stakes. He broke in maiden in a one-turn sprint and will now return to such a race. #3 TALKING tries synthetic and a distance shorter than a mile for the first time after a midpack finish against Stakes company in New York.

Race 1 #3 Be the Change #5 Kapellmeister #2 Nupogodi #4 You’re Batman #3 BE THE CHANGE has had several good efforts this season behind horses that would likely beat this group.

#7 COOLSHADE closed from last to be a well-beaten second behind a class-plunger on November 8.

Three starts back he was beaten narrowly by Cadet Connelly, who returned to be second in the Summer. #9 AUBURN HILLS had some trouble on debut when finishing third in the same race that Awesome Tiger exits. #5 Clear Destination #1 Elusive Knight #2 Finalist #3 Talking #5 CLEAR DESTINATION was a very game second behind the well-regarded Corsi in his most recent start. He gets back to the synthetic; he did run a respectable second behind Mr Hustle over this surface earlier in the season. #1 ELUSIVE KNIGHT will be well-backed after winning his debut with ease, earning a field-best 82 Beyer. Page 2: Handicapper’s Journal – Doug McPherson Sunday, November ... · 11/24/2019  · season. #1 ELUSIVE KNIGHT will be well-backed after winning his debut with ease, earning a field-best

Race 7 #8 Cash Dividend #4 Precious Badge #7 Souper Shenanigan #9 First Crusader #8 CASH DIVIDEND shortened up a sprint at the $40,000 level on November 6 and was only beat two and a half lengths in spite of finishing seventh. He drops in value and should have speed to close into. #4 PRECIOUS BADGE handled the cutback to a sprint well on November 2, rallying to be second. The pace scenario here figures to be similar. #7 SOUPER SHENANIGAN dueled on the lead when dropping in for this price on November 2, giving way to be fourth. He makes his third start off of a layoff here. #9 FIRST CRUSADER lost position while racing wide on November 2 but was able to make a bit of a re-rally in the stretch. A better trip could make him more contentious.

Race 8 #6 Xenobia (IRE) #7 Gamble’s Candy #12 Special Relativity #10 Red Cabernet #6 XENOBIA (IRE) exits a front-running victory in the Athenia, a Grade 3 turf route in New York. She is a Group 3 winner sprinting in Ireland; this will be her synthetic debut. #7 GAMBLE’S CANDY looked good when beating three year olds on the front end in the Ruling Angel Stakes. This is obviously a tougher assignment but she could be a serious speed threat. #12 SPECIAL RELATIVITY was gaining late on Jean Elizabeth when finishing second in the Ontario Fashion. If she can work out a trip from the outside she should be in good striking position. #10 RED CABERNET was beaten only a length when facing Ontario Sired males in the Bunty Lawless. She finished in midpack in this race last year; this year’s edition is likely not as tough.

Race 9 #2 Hollywood Hideaway - Best Bet #11 Souper Smart #8 Brass Compass #4 Noholdingback Bear #2 HOLLYWOOD HIDEAWAY returned from a five-month layoff and finished second behind Brass Compass, who had an easy lead on that day. The pace should be more favourable today and he could be sharp in his second start off of the bench. #11 SOUPER SMART has three very good seconds in four attempts this season. He has been off for two months and returns as a gelding. #8 BRASS COMPASS has three wins in his last four starts, coming off of a controlling speed victory. He does not need the lead at all to win, but if he does go to the lead today he may take more pressure. #4 NOHOLDINGBACK BEAR led well into the stretch but gave way late in the Kennedy Road prep last time. His races this season really have not been too bad but he will need to step up to win.

Race 10 #5 Amnesty #11 Darren’s Fortune #3 Now We Are Nine #10 Earthquakedirector #5 AMNESTY beat a notorious hanger when breaking his maiden for $23,500 three weeks ago and now takes the plunge in for $7,500. He figures to be tough. #11 DARREN’S FORTUNE broke his maiden over a soft group of $7,500 routers, then finished midpack when stepping up to $15,000 foes in a race won by a romping class dropper. The class drop should help. #3 NOW WE ARE NINE angled wide and ran a decent third for $15,000 15 days ago. He looks competitive halving in value. #10 EARTHQUAKEDIRECTOR came up empty at a short price in the same price Now We Are Nine exits. He is capable of showing far more speed than he did on that day.

Race 11 #6 Charge Ahead #10 Stormfuhr #3 Skynyrd #12 Blame Ro #8 Epilogue #6 CHARGE AHEAD made a delayed seasonal bow on November 3, running a very good third. He should be tough in his second start off of the bench. #10 STORMFUHR has been contentious at this level since winning his $40,000 non-two in June. He should be competitive once again. #3 SKYNYRD won his non-three for $14,000 two back, then ran a good second behind the class Slip Kid in his first start against wide-open company. He doesn’t look out of place at this condition. #12 BLAME RO cut back to a sprint on the E. P. Taylor and rallied for a win over a next-out winner on October 20. He makes his synthetic debut here. #8 EPILOGUE was somewhat troubled when finishing fifth last time out. He may be a bit better on turf but he is capable of competing with this group with the right trip.
