Handicapper’s Journal – Doug McPherson Sunday, September 6th 2020 Race 1 #4 Red Hierarchy #3 Souper Hot #7 Now We Are Nine #1 Elektronic #4 RED HIERARCHY has had two extremely impressive wins in as many starts to date. He skipped the August 13 race that a couple of today’s foes exit to freshen up; the one to beat. #3 SOUPER HOT has been knocking on the door this season, most recently beaten a length by Nevaeh’s Dream, who returned to win a first level allowance. If Red Hierarchy regresses, he is the next most logical. #7 NOW WE ARE NINE has been in good form this season and now makes his first start off of a $25,000 claim. He had previously been training off of a farm and is now stabled at the racetrack; an intriguing outsider. #1 ELEKTRONIC had a very hot pace to close into when finishing second in his local debut, then set the pace before giving way in a first level allowance on August 20. He will need to improve significantly to earn the lion’s share. Race 2 #1 Keen Samurai #7 Priceless Will #3 Chasing Vinny #5 Jacobs Call #1 KEEN SAMURAI dueled for the lead and tired when competing in a tough maiden allowance race on July 19. His June 13 effort was quite good; he has had some time off and drops in for $40,000. #7 PRICELESS WILL was second best behind a super-impressive Red Hierarchy on July 12 then just missed behind Speedy Moonlite on August 6. He looks like the one to beat. #3 CHASING VINNY showed a bit of ability in his two starts last year.He drops in to the OS/$40,000 level but will need to improve. #5 JACOBS CALL was a non-threat in his only start at Hastings last year. That race produced eventual multiple Stakes-winner Synergy as well as a few other decent runners; we’ll see how he handles the local competition. Race 3 #2 Lookout Louie #3 Bullet Speed #7 Mazinaw Legend #1 Secret Roi #2 LOOKOUT LOUIE was a bad actor at the gate when routing on July 24 then ran flat when shortening up on August 14. He continues to drop in value. #3 BULLET SPEED was second best behind a first time starter for this price on August 21. He seems to have found his level; we’ll see if he can put in another good effort. #7 MAZINAW LEGEND tried a route on August 9 and came up empty. His two prior efforts in sprints would probably make him the favourite in this bunch; he drops in for $5,000. #1 SECRET ROI has been empty in a pair of two turn races this year. He had an okay, midpack effort in his only one turn attempt last year. Race 4 #4 Westlodge Intrigue - Best Bet #7 Lucky Girasol #10 Veil #2 Rince Tapaigh #4 WESTLODGE INTRIGUE had a very wide trip on August 8, regressing as favourite off of two previous wins. She should be able to get a better trip from this post and could easily rebound. #7 LUCKY GIRASOL swung to the outside turning for home and blew by for an easy win in the same race Westlodge Intrigue exits. If the pace sets up well it would be no surprise to see her double up in her second start of the season. #10 VEIL exits an even run against second level allowance company. She had a decent third at that level on the inner turf two back; underwhelming claim was bound to drop to this level sooner or later. #2 RINCE TAPAIGH was somewhat even in a route won by Haniel 15 days ago. She was a troubled second behind Westlodge Intrigue two back; a candidate for a rebound. Race 5 #5 Explorationist #4 Circle of Friends #8 Corduroy Road #7 Wile E Peyote #5 EXPLORATIONIST probably could have used more of his natural speed when last competing on July 23 but was held a bit, dueled and ended up a credible fourth. He is worth another look in a wide open affair. #4 CIRCLE OF FRIENDS exits back to back runner up finishes at this level. He is worth consideration but I would not take too short a price. #8 CORDUROY ROAD exits a wire to wire win over some classy $40,000 claimers on turf. He hasn’t had much luck in two tries against second level allowance company but should be able to fit better with these than he has shown. #7 WILE E PEYOTE rallied very well to be third in his local debut, the same July 23 race Explorationist exits. With the right pace set up he is a serious win candidate. Race 6 #1 Alternative View #2 Classy Mistress #4 O La La #7 Muskoka Lady #1 ALTERNATIVE VIEW has been a non-factor in her two starts this year. She ran two very good races in synthetic routes late last year; the drop in value should help. #2 CLASSY MISTRESSS ran well after a rough start in her debut but did not fire at all second time out. She drops in class while trying the synthetic and a route distance for the first time. #4 O LA LA was entered for $10,000 on the turf yesterday but scratched and re- entered here. She ran well when trying a route for the first time on August 16 over the inner turf. #7 MUSKOKA LADY exits a close second for $10,000 behind Martini

Race 1 #4 Red Hierarchy #3 Souper Hot #7 Now We Are Nine #1 Elektronic #4 RED HIERARCHY has had two extremely impressive wins in as many starts to date. He skipped the August 13 race that a couple of today’s foes exit to freshen up; the one to beat. #3 SOUPER HOT has been knocking on the door this season, most recently beaten a length by Nevaeh’s Dream, who returned to win a first level allowance. His two prior efforts in sprints would probably make him the favourite in this bunch; he drops in for $5,000. #1 SECRET ROI has been empty in a pair of two

turn races this year.

#1 Alternative View #2 Classy Mistress #4 O La La #7 Muskoka Lady #1 ALTERNATIVE VIEW has been a non-factor in her two starts this year. Page 2: Handicapper’s Journal – Doug McPherson Sunday, September ... · 06-09-2020  · from the gate with Fritzie’s Boy, an older horse who won a $15,000 non-three on August 30. #5

Sue, who returned to win a $5,000 non-two. She is an obvious contender.

Race 7 #4 Giant Waters #5 Decimator #2 No Exit #8 Drone Swarm #4 GIANT WATERS is by Giant Gizmo, who is12% with debuting juveniles, and the first foal out of a dam who never broke her maiden. On August 23 he worked evenly from the gate with Fritzie’s Boy, an older horse who won a $15,000 non-three on August 30. #5 DECIMATOR has had two midpack efforts against maiden special weight company. He has now been gelded and drops in for $40,000. #2 NO EXIT was a non-threat in an off-turf race on August 2. He drops in for $40,000 and gets a chance to get on turf. #8 DRONE SWARM is by Sky Mesa, a 15% two year old debut sire with plenty of synthetic success. The dam threw debut winner Aye Aye Captain but her other foals have been cheap. This won worked evenly from the gate with Jill on August 7; that filly laboured in the stretch when breaking her maiden for $25,000 on September 3.

Race 8 #9 Souper Munnings #8 Rumpus #5 Believing #2 Knew as a Breeze #9 SOUPER MUNNINGS had a wide trip in her debut, just missing behind Dirty Dangle, who was touted a bit as being a runner. This one figures to be tough in her second attempt. #8 RUMPUS has been training at Fair Hill. $175,000 pinhook is by speed-sire Kantharos, who hits at 18% with debuting juveniles; the dam had synthetic success but all of her foals have been on the cheaper side. #5 BELIEVING stalked a hot pace, made a serious bid in midstretch and just hung a bit late when running a very good third on debut. She looks very logical in her second try. #2 KNEW AS A BREEZE is by 10% juvenile debut sire Shanghai Bobby, out of Bison City winner Nicki Knew, who has thrown debut winner Imperial Dream, who won the Vigil at two. Her August 23 gate work was a solo drill.

Race 9 #5 Ready Soul #3 Waltzing Champ #2 Voltamour #4 Strike the Top #5 READY SOUL ran a credible third with some trouble in his season opener on August 9. Lightly-raced colt figures to be a contender in his second start off of the bench. #3 WALTZING CHAMP ran very well in his second start when beaten a length by Just Like Larry then regressed last time after engaging in a duel. He still earned a solid figure for that effort. #2 VOLTAMOUR made a nice rally to be fifth by a length and a half when debuting on August 16. He tries turf and stretches out a bit; we’ll see if he can move forward. #4 STRIKE THE TOP had a troubled trip

in his local debut, missed by a nose second time out then came up empty with a wide trip when trying synthetic on August 1. He could rebound on the return to the turf.

Race 10 #6 Last American Exit #1 Bend in the River #4 Speedy Hans #2 Have a Souper Day #6 LAST AMERICAN EXIT was a game winner over stablemate and next-out winner Lead Director on July 19, then ran a bit evenly on turf in the Greenwood Stakes. He looks like a contender getting back to the main track. #1 BEND IN THE RIVER had a wide trip from the 13 hole when trying turf and came up empty on August 16. He gets back to the synthetic and adds blinkers for the first time. #4 SPEEDY HANS shipped up from Florida and won over Last American Exit on June 28. He has not been seen in just over two months. We’ll see if he can run back to that effort off of the break. #2 HAVE A SOUPER DAY stumbled at the start and dropped the rider in the Elgin last week. He rarely runs a bad race.

Race 11 #4 Keep Your Word #3 Our Uncle Drew #2 Carl G #1 American Driven #8 Jordans Way #4 KEEP YOUR WORD angled out to race widest midway down the backstretch and kept on well enough down the stretch to be third. He could prevail with a good trip. #3 OUR UNCLE DREW looks like the horse to beat on speed figures. He added bar shoes and was simply third best when competing for $25,000 on August 21; he drops in for $10,000 and gets back to turf. #2 CARL G set the pace before finishing second in the same race Keep Your Word exits. He figures to be a pace factor once again. #1 AMERICAN DRIVEN has been competitive locally, as well as at Fort Erie and Tampa. He has been showing speed but does not need the lead. #8 JORDANS WAY has earned a few minor shares this season. He ran a very nice race with a poor trip over the Fort Erie turf in June.
