Handicapper’s Journal – Doug McPherson Saturday, October 26 th 2019 Race 1 #6 Goldmine Glory #3 She's a True Fox #1 Post to Post #5 Magic River #6 GOLDMINE GLORY looked good when wiring maidens in a main track sprint on October 6. She fared well over this turf course in her debut and figures to be the controlling speed on the stretch out to two turns. #3 SHE'S A TRUE FOX was able to rally to a maiden win over this course on August 28, then returned a month later on the main track, racing evenly with a wide trip. She could rebound on the return to turf. #1 POST TO POST was long overdue for a win but finally got the job done with a very good inside trip two weeks ago. She should continue to be competitive. #5 MAGIC RIVER dropped in for $25,000 on August 31 in her second start off of a layoff and was able to win going away. She is lightly raced and could continue to move forward; she returns to the $40,000 level. Race 2 #2 Fritzie's Boy #5 Rapid Beat #6 Groundhog Day #3 Captain Sidney #2 FRITZIE'S BOY drops in value after running third in a solid group at the $25,000 level on October 6. He is quite consistent as a turf sprinter and figures to be competitive. #5 RAPID BEAT got loose and the lead and never looked threatened when beating $7,500 non-twos on September 27. Although there are some other speed types in here, he could end up out-sprinting them and is a threat to go wire to wire. #6 GROUNDHOG DAY exits a runner up finish over the main track for this price on October 4. His best effort this season came in his sole turf race of the year on August 23. #3 CAPTAIN SIDNEY has been having a good campaign, finishing no worse than fourth in five starts. Last time out he drew outside and ran well in spite of a wide trip; he could have an easier journey here. Race 3 #1 Magical Man #3 Dixie's Gamble #5 Silent Jimmie #4 Speedy Connor #1 MAGICAL MAN was a credible third behind Pink Lloyd in the Kenora two back, then was able to make a wide rally to win in a competitive second level allowance on September 15. He looks logical in this compact field. #3 DIXIE'S GAMBLE was fifth of six, less than a length behind Magical Man in the Kenora. If he runs to his best he may be the one to beat; perhaps the two month break will help his chances. #5 SILENT JIMMIE added blinkers two back when scoring an upset win at the first allowance level, then returned to finish a rallying fourth in a very tough second level allowance. He is better on turf but has been competitive on the synthetic on numerous occasions. #4 SPEEDY CONNOR will put his undefeated record on the line here. He exits a win against good company in a five furlong starter allowance at Fort Erie, and prior to that was able to handle the synthetic when beating $25,000 non-threes. Quick three-year old now will face the real acid test. Race 4 #2 Twomanyshots Best Bet #3 Faith Over Fear #7 Vespolina #6 Beach Bar #2 TWOMANYSHOTS ran a good second on debut, racing a bit greenly and casing a winner who was the lone speed. She appears to have potential and could improve. #3 FAITH OVER FEAR was run down late by a foe with a perfect trip when travelling two turns on the inner turf last time. Two back in her only one-turn sprint attempt she was second behind a lone speed winner; this will be her first try on the E. P. Taylor. #7 VESPOLINA disappointed when trying turf at a route distance two starts back, dueling for the lead before tiring. She has shown ability in sprint races on the main tracks and deserves another look on the turf. #6 BEACH BAR won on debut for this price before being disqualified, then ran a good fourth at the maiden allowance level before disappointing in the same turf route that Vespolina competed in on September 1. She gets back in for $40,000 after an eight-week layoff. Race 5 #9 Palace Two Step #6 Queen's Speed #1 Gizmo Flash #3 Sea Fret #9 PALACE TWO STEP tracked the pacesetter and was a clear second best on debut. That winner went on to handle a good group of winners with ease; she figures to be tough here but note that she was a vet scratch on October 2. #6 QUEEN'S SPEED has not had the best of trips in either of her starts to date but has shown finishing interest both times. She adds blinkers and returns on two weeks rest. #1 GIZMO FLASH crossed the wire first three starts back but was disqualified for interference. She has continued to be competitive in two starts since. This may turn out to be a tougher group than what she has faced in recent starts. #3 SEA FRET daughter of Not Bourbon is out of a mare who has not been a consistent producer but did throw the speedy Aaronic Blessing, who won on debut as a three year old.

Race 4 #2 Twomanyshots – Best Bet #3 Faith Over Fear #7 Vespolina #6 Beach Bar #2 TWOMANYSHOTS ran a good second on debut, racing a bit greenly and casing a winner who was the lone speed. She appears to have potential and could improve. #3 FAITH OVER FEAR was run down late by a foe with a perfect trip when travelling two turns on the inner turf last time. Page 2: Handicapper’s Journal – Doug McPherson Saturday, October 26th … · 2019-10-26 · deserves another look on the turf. #6 BEACH BAR won on debut for this price before being disqualified,

Race 6 #6 American Tap #3 French Charm #10 Disappearing Act #5 Positive Danger #6 AMERICAN TAP set the pace in her debut on October 5, racing into a strong headwind before tiring in the stretch. She may show improvement with better circumstances and may offer a good price. #3 FRENCH CHARM has run second in two of her three starts to date and had a very wide trip on the turf in her lone poor outing. She has the speed to get good early position. #10 DISAPPEARING ACT debuted on turf back on September 1 with a runner up finish behind a pacesetting foe with two prior starts. Third place finisher Cool Shadows returned to win with a 68 Beyer; she returns after eight weeks off. #5 POSITIVE DANGER debuts off of a fairly short worktab that likely does not include some foundation in Ocala. Uncle Mo hits at 16% with two year old first time starters; the dam has thrown multiple Stakes winners Sky Treasure and Surgical Strike.

Race 7 #4 Foxxy Belle #8 Veil #1 Dancing Doll #3 Miss Savvy #4 FOXXY BELLE had a poor effort two back when dueling on the lead in a route but has otherwise been having a very consistent season. She should be forwardly placed here. #8 VEIL stalked a quick pace and was up late to win when dropping in for $37,500 on October 4. She may be more competitive at this level coming off of that win. #1 DANCING DOLL rallied to be a good fifth at this level on September 28. There looks to be a fair bit of speed in this race. #3 MISS SAVVY weakened after dueling for the lead last time out but was beaten less than three lengths. She is capable of better and may offer a good price.

Race 8

#1 Curlin's Voyage #7 Merveilleux #3 Avie's Samurai #4 Take Charge Eh #1 CURLIN’S VOYAGE was an impressive maiden winner two back, then was cut off badly in the stretch run of the Mazarine and was awarded the win via disqualification. She seems to be excelling around two turns. #7 MERVEILLEUX was a well beaten second behind the talented Skygaze two back, then stretched out to a route and was able to win. She looks competitive in this jump to Stakes company. #3 AVIE’S SAMURAI made the lead in the stretch but was run down late when racing around two turns on the inner turf two weeks ago. She gets back onto the Tapeta here. #4 TAKE CHARGE EH was shut off and nearly clipped heels going into the first turn in the Mazarine, running an okay third. She may be more effective with a clean run.

Race 9 #10 Copper Fox #4 Cry Uncle #5 Fresh Dreams #6 Westlodge Intrigue #10 COPPER FOX was hard ridden to make the lead last time and gave way to be third. She can run from off of the pace; will have to overcome the wide draw. #4 CRY UNCLE made her local debut two weeks ago, dueling from the turn into the stretch before giving way to a respectable fifth place finish. She looks competitive and could improve in her second start over the course. #5 FRESH DREAMS had a wide journey over the main track last time, finishing fifth in a first level allowance won by next-out Stakes-winner Gamble’s Candy. The best race of her career came on the turf. #6 WESTLODGE INTRIGUE was claimed back when winning for $25,000 last time out and returns for the same price. She is a consistent trying type and although winless on the turf is able to perform well over it.

Race 10 #10 Heart Rush #5 Mystery Day #3 Double Crossed #13 Peggy’s Cove #2 Cheekylicious #10 HEART RUSH has not run a poor race in four starts this season. She has good gate speed and catches a manageable group. #5 MYSTERY DAY has been running fairly well this season, generally getting some tough trips that excuse her poorer efforts. There should be a decent amount of speed up front. #3 DOUBLE CROSSED was a good third last time out. She is one of several who figures to have a shot at the smaller shares. #13 PEGGY’S COVE tried a route on the inner turf last time out and was an even seventh. She halves in value and gets back to a main track sprint. #2 CHEEKYLICIOUS pressed from the inside before drawing off to a maiden win on October 2. The waters get deeper but she may be able to step up.
