Important Information about Attendance Regular attendance at school for every student is essential if students are to achieve their potential and increase their career and life options. Schools in partnerships with parents are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students. While parents are legally responsible for the regular attendance of their children, school staff as part of their duty of care record and monitor part and whole day absences. All students are required to be on the school site prior to the start of the school day.

The Department of Education recently updated its attendance policy. It states that family holidays and travel are no longer considered under the Department of Education guidelines for exemption from school and hence will no longer be approved, rather they will recorded as unapproved absences. To maximise the learning outcomes of all students, family holidays should be scheduled during the school holiday periods.

Staff Changes The beginning of Term 2 will bring about some staff changes at our school. Mrs Littlewood, has done an amazing job with 1/2M this term. We are extremely fortunate that Mrss Littlewood was able to teach this class during Term 1 and we wish her and her family all the very best on the expected birth of their second child in the coming weeks. We will greatly miss Mrs Littlewood’s innovative, passionate and caring approach to her students. Replacing Miss Littlewood for the year will be Mrs Lisa-Maree Furner. Mrs Furner joins us from Sydney where she has enjoyed a very successful teaching career in a range of different settings. We are excited to have someone with her experience and expertise joining us here at GEPS.

We also bid a fond farewell to Mrs Kay Weaver. Mrs Weaver has worked in our

Many thanks Nikki Burdack District School Counsellor

school office for over 15 years and whilst we are sad to see her leave, we know she is a going to enjoy a very well deserved retirement. We will greatly miss her calm, caring and professional attitude to her job. I look forward to introducing Kay’s replacement at the start of Term 2. Thank you to all our school community for making Term 1 such a success. It’s been a term of many highlights but for me, watching our new Kindergarten students settle in so beautifully into our school, our PBL Expo and watching each of our teachers and students set, work on and reach their personalised learning goals have been my personal high points.

School resumes for all students on Tuesday, 1st May. I would like to wish all our students and their families a safe and happy holiday and I look forward to another busy term ahead.

Kind regards, Principal Nathan Forbes

1/2F News...

It has been a busy Term for 1/2F! We have all settled in well and have had a great start to the year. We have been doing daily fitness as a part of our daily routine which everyone has been enjoying. In 1/2F we’ve been working on our fitness as well as developing our Fundamental Movement Skills. We do lots of different activities and games and have really been enjoying getting our bodies moving. We have been practising our Tech skills, and are becoming more familiar with the App Seesaw and how we can use it in the classroom to benefit our learning. We have been learning how to complete activities, take photos and videos, and how to record ourselves. Look out for our upcoming posts! Last week we all had an amazing time at our Easter Hat Parade. We had so many

wonderful family members come in to help create some spectacular Easter Hats. We

had a lot fun and made a lot of mess, but it was worth it to see all the smiling faces

parading their hats proudly on the stage. Thank you to all who made it and assisted

by supplying materials.
