Message from the Principal
Dear Families, Please see below my recent report to the P&C which gives a snapshot look at what is happening at GEPS at the moment. It was so good to see so many Parents and Carers at the last P&C Meeting. Parent Forums I believe it is essential that the school communicates and collaborates with our community. I want to create additional opportunities for us to do this. I recently surveyed the community to gauge interest in holding Community Forums. These Forums would be run by myself, however, focus on the needs of our parents. The results of the survey are as follows: Most popular day: Wednesday or Thursday Most popular time: Late evening (around 5:30pm) Most important topics: Literacy and numeracy initiatives I will advertise the first forum with a full agenda in the coming weeks. Yarning Circle The space in front of the canteen has been designated for a Yarning Circle. The Yarning Circle will be a space for our students and community to learn and communicate. We are all really looking forward to using this amazing space. Below is a plan for what the space will look like.
Eyes on Learning Our teachers are excited to bring you our Eyes on Learning event during Week 6. The Eyes on Learning event will showcase our priorities as a school and the things we are most proud of. The event will include stalls showcasing the following:
Visible Learning Literacy and Numeracy Progressions STEM and Technology Positive Behaviour for Learning Growth Mindsets Any many more
Garden Our garden between the hall and classrooms is looking sensational. It has been wonderful watching our students and staff utilising this space to learn more about the environment and the science behind living things. Whilst it has come a long way, we are not finished yet. Next on our agenda is the installation of a mud kitchen, more seating options and an outdoor blackboard. Future Focussed Learning Spaces As our student learning needs change, so must the spaces they learn in. To achieve this we are work-ing on updating a number of spaces and resources around our school. This includes a remodelling of our library where we will invest in more technology, future focussed furniture and learning space design. The focus of the remodelling will be about ensuring students can collaborate, think critically and creatively with the assistance of the latest technology. Similarly, I have chosen Stage 3 classrooms to undergo a learning space restructure and Stage 1 students are about to enjoy a massive boost to their technology access with new laptops set to be distributed to all classrooms. Thank you to the P&C I would like to thank all members of the P&C for their commitment to our school through your fundraising efforts. These efforts have allowed us to purchase resources for our upcoming production and our amazing new uniforms for our netball teams. It was great to hear how excited our team was and how much pride they had in representing our school with these new outfits. Kind regards, Mr Forbes Principal Glendale East Public School
