Public Speaking

Congratulations to the following students who represented Glendale East Public School at the Zone Public Speak-

ing Finals at Booragul Public School.

A special congratulations goes to Alex Holliday who received a Highly Commended Award for her speech on the

day. Well done Alex!

Message from the Principal

Thank you

I would like to thank Mrs Ariizumi for doing such a wonderful job as Relieving Principal whilst I was on leave. We are lucky to have such a passionate and caring leader at our school. I would also like to thank all the staff for their efforts in my absence. Whenever I’m away it requires all our staff to take on extra responsibilities and they all did so brilliantly. Athletics Carnival

Our annual Athletics Carnival is fast approaching. This year, we will be holding the event off the school site. This decision was made to decrease the likelihood of a postponement and to ensure that we can accommodate the correct distances and protocols for each event. This year the carnival will be held at Fearnley Dawes Athletic Centre (25 National Park St, Newcastle) on Thursday June 28th. There will be a note sent home in the near future with more details. We hope to see plenty of parents there. P&C

Our P&C is an important organisation which provides parents with a voice in their child's schooling as well as offering assistance in important school events and fundraising for the school. Recently we have had several members of the P&C executive step down from their positions. I would like to thank Maryanne Barry, Nikki Mannix and Kim Stark for their service to the P&C over the past years and wish them all the best for the future. We now need a new treasurer, vice president and uniform coordinator. Anyone interested in these positions should contact myself or Robert Richens who is the new P&C President. The next P&C Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday June 20th at 6:30pm. Uniform

As the cooler months set in, it is important that all our students have the correct winter uninform. Please ensure your child wears the correct jumper/jacket to school each day. If you are unsure of our uniform, please visit the front office for more information. Website

Our school website is currently undergoing maintenance. Over the coming months you will notice that new content is added and some old content deleted. If you have any suggestions for what you would like to see on the new site, please see myself or Mrs Mantle. Outdoor Education Space

The P&C in partnership with the school have successfully applied for a Lake Macquarie City Council Environment and Sustainability Grant. The grant will be used to turn the unused space between the classrooms and the hall into an Outdoor Education Space. I look forward to sharing more information about this project as the year progresses. Have a great fortnight everybody, Nathan Forbes Principal

Message from the Office

We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new addition in the office, please make Jo Bolton feel welcome. She comes to our school with many years of experience from the corporate world. Jo will be working in our office for a couple of days per week. Just a reminder that all money for all upcoming events. MUST be returned to the office prior to the due by date as noted on notes. Please refer to your

excursion note for payment due by dates. The office cannot accept any further payments after this date. Unfortunately, if payment is presented to the office after this date it will be returned home and your child cannot attend the excursion. Families are encouraged to use the POP (parent online payment) link on our school website.

Payments cannot be receipted after 3pm as the till must be closed and reconciled by the end of our working day. Cash payments can be left after 3pm and will be receipted the next day, however we cannot give change after 3pm.

Eftpos cannot be processed after 3pm as it must be included in the days banking.

Department of Education Visitors sign on requirements: All visitors to the school site are reminded to please sign on and off in the office visitors book every time you visit between the hours of 9am to 3pm for a specific purpose for example; meeting with teacher, purchasing uniforms, parent helpers, canteen helpers etc. This does NOT include assemblies.

It is possible for parents to make online payments for amounts owing for students, via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card. The payment page is accessed from the front page of the schools website by selecting $ Make a Payment. Items can be paid include Voluntary School contributions, subject contributions, excursions and sales to students. Please DO NOT PAY FOR UNIFORMS as payments for these are made directly to P&C Uniform account. When you access the $ Make a payment you must enter (remember only the asterix sections); The students name, and Class OR reference number OR The students name, and Date of birth.

These details are entered each time you make a payment as student information is not held within the payment system. Once you make a payment you will receive a reference number after payment is made and you have the option to write this on the returned permission note or simply write that you have made a payment online and the date. This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are captured in a secure manner, these details are not passed back to the school. You have the ability to check and change any details of the payment before the payment is processed. Receipts can be emailed and/or printed. Details of the payments are passed daily to the school where they will be receipted against your child’s account. As a receipt has been issued from the payment page a further receipt will not be issued by the school. For any queries regarding the Online Payment process, please contact the School Administration Office.

3/4S News...

What’s happening in 3/4S

We have hit the ground running this term with a very busy first few weeks. Last week students in year 3 sat NAPLAN whilst the year 4 students worked on a project trying to invent a product that saves time. Students thought up some fantastic ideas and were asked to present their product to the class with a poster and a PowerPoint presentation. All students demonstrated great critical and creative thinking skills throughout the development of their project.

3/4S continued its focus on coding throughout the rest of Term 1 and thoroughly enjoyed

their first lesson using the Spheros last week. We’d like to thank the Glendale East Parents

and Community team for the generous donation of funds to allow the purchase of these

robots.
