Kameen, Forest City Republican Committeeman The Forest City Girls Vol- leyball team completed their 2016 Lackawanna League campaign with a 5 set win vs. Montrose on Tuesday 10/18. This improved their record to 9 wins and 9 losses and put them in third place of the Dis- trict 2-AA playoffs. By earning this seed, the first round of the playoffs will be held at For- est City Regional on Monday 10/31. There will be a total of four teams playing at FCR on Monday, and three of these will be from the Wyoming Val- ley Conference. The first match will start at 5pm, and will pit the #4 seed in the district, Mey- ers against the #5 seed of Lake- Lehman. Thirty minutes after the completion of this match, the Forest City Lady Foresters will be taking on #6 seed of Ha- nover Area. The winners will then move on to compete the following night, Tuesday 11/1, against the #1 seed of Holy Redeemer, and the # 2 seed of Dunmore. These Semi-Final matches will be held at Holy Redeemer High School, located on 159 S. Pennsylvania Avenue in Wilkes-Barre. The winners from the semi-finals will then complete as first part of a dou- ble header held at Wilkes Col- lege gym on Thursday 11/3 @ 6pm, to crown the District 2 AA champion. The champion will then move on to compete in the State Volleyball playoffs which will begin on Tuesday 11/8. The 9-9 record for the Forest City Foresters Varsity program has been the best performance that coaches Joan Skarbez and Jennifer Dovin have been able to obtain since taking over the program three seasons ago, after producing a pair of 6-12 seasons. Of those 9 losses, 7 have come from other schools that have made the District 2 Playoffs; Blue Ridge (league champion and #1 seed at A size), Abington Heights and Western Wayne (AAA size schools, seeds #2 and #5), and Dunmore the #2 seed at AA size. The Coaches for the team would like to express their gratitude for all the family and friends that came out to sup- port the team throughout this year by aending home and away matches and cheering for their Lady Foresters. They are looking forward to continued improvement during the up- coming seasons. Forest City Volleyball Will Host First Round District 2 playoffs AA playoffs First Row (L-R); Asst. Con- sider the seven young men from Forest City Regional High School who are geing the chance to play football. FCR being a small school does not have enough players to field their own football team. Through cooperation with the Carbondale Area High School an opportunity was created allowing them to play football. The players provide their own transportation to the practices and games through carpooling. Prac- tices are prey much every day and the games usually are played on Friday nights. The last game of this season will be against Riv- erside, one of the beer teams in their conference. Did it feel strange puing on a jersey with the name of another school on it; maybe at first. Were they welcomed to play on the team by the other Carbondale players? Yes, but they had to prove them- selves as football players. Coming from another school they are not very well known and it was up to the FCR players to show what they could to and how they could contribute. Based upon the fact that 5 of the 7 players are starters on the team safe to say they are making a big contribution. All of the young men agree that it takes a lot of hard work to play on the football team. In ad- dition to practice and play during the season most if not all of them are working out during the other months also. When asked about their coach, Larry Gabriel, they all agree that he is really great and sometimes gets the whole team to- gether for a meal. Forest City Regional is repre- sented by senior Jarred Coscia, a defensive tackle who is also a 3 year veteran of the volleyball team and will be enlisting in the Army. Darin Ingram is a senior and also a defensive tackle who is leaning towards the Air Force after gradu- ation. Twin brothers Joseph and Chris Lee are also seniors. Joseph is a defensive back, participates on the track team and is considering the Army after graduation. Chris is a defensive back also. Kevin Kelly is a junior and a starter at offensive guard and also a 3 year member of the track and field team. Noah Yates, another junior, is a starter playing tight end and defensive end. Noah also plays basketball and is on the track team. Also starting is Draven Stewart a defensive tackle who also plays baseball. During a game last year against Hanover, Jarred recovered a fum- ble and turned it into a 68 yard touchdown. Later in the game he scored a safety. Eight points scored by a defensive player, talk about making a big contribution. All seven of these young men deserve a lot of credit for keeping up their studies and grades while doing what it takes to play foot- ball and the other sports. Most impressive is their politeness and fine example they set for the other students and community. The school, their parents and all of us have reason to be proud of this group of great young men.
