Characters from a variety of literature visited our school this
morning to participate in our Book Week Character
Parade. As a learning community, we promote students
learning to read while respecting the oral tradition of storytel-
ling. Book Week is about helping people discover and
rediscover the magic of books. Well done to our students
who enthusiastically paraded this morning. Your costumes
looked great. Congratulations to all our students and staff for
sharing their creative costumes and their love of reading.
I wish Ryan Wandel all the very best of luck in the zone final
of the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition
tomorrow. I know he and Mrs Read have worked diligently
to prepare for the competition. It’s wonderful to see our
students showcasing their skills.
Congratulations to all the students who attended the Balldale
Zone Athletics Carnival. The students were great
ambassadors for our school and strived to perform their very
best. Mac was awarded the 12/13 Yr Boys Champion and
Angas was runner up for the Junior Boy age champion.
Mac MacFarland, Laura O’Shannassy, Angus MacFarland,
Teagan Butler and Meg O’Neill have all qualified for the
Riverina Regional Athletics Carnival on Friday 31st August.
This is an amazing achievement and we are all very proud of
you.
Our next venture to further enhance our beautiful grounds is
to widen and decorate our entry path to the school. This
is a joint school and P&C initiative which we feel will
greatly add to the aesthetics of our school. Over the past
term, each student has been creating their own mosaic under
the guidance and expertise of Mrs Pam Fredericks. Each mo-
saic will be embedded into paving along the front pathway.
Families and individuals have the opportunity to purchase an
engraved paver and have this unique opportunity to have
their name as a permanent part of our school. Pavers can be
purchased at a cost of $25 or a double for $50. A single paver
may have up to 34 characters. Order forms will be sent home
soon and need to be returned with payment by the end of this
term. Please let any previous school community members
know about this wonderful opportunity. Below are some ex-
amples.

We will soon be applying grout to the student’s mosaic
pavers and would appreciate having some old worn towels to
use in this messy activity. If anyone has unwanted towels
they could donate, it would be very much appreciated.

Home Reading Program Congratulations to the following students who have achieved: 50 Nights of Home Reading: Nicholas Butler, Geoffrey Johnston. 75 Nights of Home Reading: Haylee Coats, Josh Bruce, Ryan Wandel. 100 Nights of Home Reading: Bryce Moffitt, Oskar Wemyss, Loren Delaney, Zach Wemyss, Maddison Andrews, Tom Forrest, Spencer Holland, Abbie Hetherington. 175 Nights of Home Reading: Harley Jackson, Laura O’Shannassy, Leah Raschke. The Peter Klein author workshop at the Corowa Library
last Friday was an exciting experience for children from
Corowa South and Lowesdale. A multi-talented presenter,
Peter made literature, especially his own “Mudpoo” books,
come alive in an interactive performance which challenged
and delighted his audience. He involved the children
through song, book reading and interpretative mime. A very
memorable, educational and riveting literacy experience.
P & C News -Father’s Day
We are prolonging the time to celebrate Father’s Day by
holding our Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday 7th
September. We hope you can join us any time from 6:30am
until 9am for a complimentary BBQ breakfast and a chance
to socialise with other parents, staff and students. We are so
grateful for all of the wonderful donations of bacon and
eggs. If anyone has fruit they would like to donate, we
would welcome the generosity.
We hope you are busy selling the P&C Raffle tickets. They
need to be returned by Monday 3rd September. There have
been many generous donations which are being used to
make hampers. We would greatly appreciate each family
donating a small prize to add to the hamper. It could be a
dvd, magazine, book, toiletries, chocolates, BBQ utensils,
fishing gear, photo frame, garden product, car products or
the typical socks and handkerchiefs.

We are working with the Corowa community, in particular the education providers, on a project to promote further devel-opment of children’s communication skills through everyday activities and routines. Please contact your child’s principal if you would like further information.
Parking in the Hume Street Designated Bus Zone: Parents are asked to refrain from parking in the Designated Bus Zone on Hume
Street when dropping off or collecting students from school or excursions.
Parental Use of the Car Park has created OH&S issues regarding the safe supervision of school students and their younger siblings.
Parents are asked to use River or Hume Street in order to ensure the safe drop off and pick up of children. Additional signage will be
erected to highlight the safety issues raised.
Road Safety Issues Around Schools Tips to improve children’s safety around our school. School-aged children should always travel in the back seat of your vehicle. Each child / infant must be firmly buckled into an ap-propriate seatbelt or child restraint. NEVER share a seatbelt. Children should always get in and out of the car through the rear kerb side or ‘safety door’. Always drop your children on the school side of the road. Meet your children on the school side of the road, preferable at the school gate. This is particularly important in wet weather. NEVER call to your children from across the road. Teach them to wait until you come to them. Talk with them about what they should do if you are not there on time. Children up to at least eight years old should hold an adult’s hand on the footpath and when crossing the road. Children between eight and at least ten years old should be closely supervised by an adult in the traffic environment and should hold an adults hand when crossing the road. Talk your child through the ‘STOP! LOOK! LISTEN! THINK! ROUTINE EVERY TIME YOU CROSS THE ROAD TOGETHER: STOP! One step back from the kerb. LOOK! For traffic to your right, left and right again. LISTEN! For the sounds of approaching traffic. THINK! Whether it is safe to cross.
