Happy Campers Our Year 7 students were accompanied on their first high school camp by our Year 11 peer support leaders in March.

Happy campers enjoyed three fun-filled days at Harrietville where they participated in confidence and team building activities, as well as physical activities such as tree climbing, swimming and dancing!

Au revoir, Benoit!We wished au revoir et bon voyage to our French exchange student, Benoit Turmeau, at the end of Term 2!

Corowa Careers ExpoThe Corowa Careers Expo was held at the Connected Learning Centre on 20 March this year! It was an incredibly successful event, being very well attended by both community members and employers. Thanks to our Careers Adviser, Janet Lake, Mary

Hetherington (Corowa Business Chamber) and Kelly Ralph (TAFE NSW Corowa) for their fantastic organisation.

Cross CountryStudents showcased their speed and stamina at our annual cross county carnival in April.

Corowa High School RemembersWe are tremendously proud of all students that represented our school at the Corowa ANZAC Day march in April.

Thanks especially to our flag bearers and to Reilly, Montana and Val for speaking at the ceremony.

Tree PlantingIn the spirit of National Tree Day, our Year 7 and 9 Geography students worked together with Corowa District Landcare to re-vegetate the wetlands area on the corner of River Street and Federation Avenue in Corowa in July.

This re-vegetation effort aims to preserve the limited habitat of Sloan’s froglet.

Service with a smile!Our VET Hospitality students practiced both their culinary and customer service skills in March when they catered for an executive staff meeting.

Students performed exceptionally, whipping up creamy chicken pies, sticky date pudding and fresh coffees.

Athletics carnival action!As always, we had a huge day at our athletics carnival in May! Excellent participation and sportsmanship made it a fantastic day!

Tournament of Minds tryoutsStudents were invited to audition for the Corowa High School 2019 Tournament of Minds team in May. Dr Bellette presented applicants with a problem and asked them solve it, showcasing their ingenuity, creativity and quick thinking skills.

Congratulations to Jed, James, Teague, Lacey, Jake, Frankie, Carter, Crystal, Lachlan, Ruby, Angela, Darcy, Max and Skye! These students will form two teams to compete in our regional finals in August!

Lions Youth of the YearAll four of our School Captains participated in the Corowa Lions Youth of the Year competition this year. After dinner with Lions Club members, students presented both prepared and impromptu speeches to the judges.After a closely fought competition, Olivia Hughes was named the overall winner, while Montana took out the public speaking title.

Pizza oven completed!The staff at Corowa High School fired up our brand new wood fire pizza oven for the first time at the end of Term 1.

With the help of some of our local community members, the oven was constructed by last year’s Senior Work Skills class and it works perfectly!

A week of work for Year 10Our Year 10 students stepped out into workplaces across the country in May! Venues for work experience were wide and varied

including radio stations, retail stores, restaurants, pharmacies, zoos, hospitals, panel beaters, schools and so many more!

Commerce class joins RFSAs part of their studies on ‘Community Participation’, students from our Year 9-10 Commerce class have recently joined the Rural Fire Cadet program.

Students have been fitted out with their own uniforms and are learning many of the skills that are essential for those aspiring to become a volunteer fire fighter.

International breakfast for Harmony daySchool Chaplain, Ms Jongeneel, organised an international breakfast for students in celebration of Harmony week in March.

Students were encouraged to sample traditional food from many countries including the Philippines, Greece, Australia, France and many others.

Year 11’s keep a cool headOur Year 11 students attended the Cool Heads Young Driver program in March.

Cool Heads is an often confronting program which aims to educate young drivers on the dangers and consequences of risky driving behaviours.

Pop-up cafeOur VET Hospitality students orchestrated a pop-up style cafe in the school canteen in May.

They sold fresh coffees and baked goods to staff and students!

Year 6 information nightLocal Year 5-6 students were invited to attend our Year 7 in 2020 information evening on in March.

A number of local families attended and enjoyed the information session, school tours and dinner with our staff.

Volunteering for the communityA number of Year 7-8 students volunteered their time to assist at the Corowa Public School athletics carnival in April.

They were put to work in time keeping roles, raking the long jump pit, measuring distances and record keeping.

Questacon at CHSStudents in Years 7-10 put their problem solving skills to the test in May when we were visited by Questacon! With limited

materials, students were tasked to create a functional model of a rollercoaster and were very creative with their solutions!
