Letters from two of our former Exchange Students, Rafael Possobon from Brazil and Charlotte Svensson, from Sweden to Margaret and Graham Brown

I'm so happy to hear from you! I just can't believe how long has been since I lived my great year in Australia! You guys seem to be so busy! Graham is still riding his bike (nationally and internationally!) and Margaret is always taking care of the family and very busy teaching! Speaking of family! Yours seem to be getting bigger and bigger! You must be so proud! I'm so happy of you! I really miss so much everything that I had in Australia! Miss all the new families that I had, all the people from rotary and the new friends that I made. Unfortunately life here is being so busy! I’ve completed 2 years of Civil Engineering! I discovered that I’m a hard worker person, I’m working with my dad at his construction company, and also, designing some structures. Next year I’ll finish an MBA, and hopefully I’ll start a master degree on law studies. Maybe in a few years time I’ll be teaching at the University. Mom and dad here are great! Dad is always busy working (I think that he’ll never retire!) and mom started university, she’s studying design, she is loving it so much, she never stops studying! My brother got married with Vanessa last year, and he is living in Macaé (near from Rio de Janeiro), he is working at PETROBRAS, it is so difficult to get a job there, therefore, our family is so proud! Now I’m annoying him so much, because I want to be an uncle! This Christmas we’ll go to his place, and have the celebration at his home! I really get my eyes wet when I speak of that! Couldn’t be more proud of my bother! About me, I’m dating Marcela, a physiotherapist, she makes me so happy! With her I think about marriage and having a family… She’ll join us on the 25th, 24th she’ll spend with her family. She works next door from where I work, when we saw each other, it was love at first sight! After the Christmas celebration, we’ll spend some time together travelling around Rio de Janeiro! I’m really looking forward to that… I really need some holidays! Please send my Christmas greetings to all people in Corowa, I’m so happy that you guys are healthy and happy! It was great to receive your e-mail! I’ll promise that’ll write more!

Love Rafael Zapelini Possobon

Dear Graham and Margaret, It is very nice to hear from you and that you are all well. My family are all good (that's including our dog, Tessi, too). Staffan (my 21 year-old brother) is studying in Uppsala and he enjoys his studies. He will be working at a cheeseshop in Stockholm the days before Christmas and he will come home on the 23rd of December. In Sweden we celebrate Christmas on the 24 of December, I think it is because we are Lutherans. We will defiantly have a white Christmas this year. It looks absolutely beautiful outside with the snow embedding the nature. We have about 30 cm of snow at the moment. I like my new school and classes. My school is called International Baccalaureate and is an International School which has about 120 different schools worldwide. All our classes are in English and it reminds me of the Australian School system. I will therefore get an International High School Diploma after finishing year 12. I do Biology, Swedish (which is, of course in Swedish), English, Maths, Italian, History and Theory of Knowledge. I have got excellent grades so far but it is still one and a half year until my exams, so there is a long way to go, however, I’m sure the time will just fly away. I have met and got to know a lot of new friends and I feel like I have settled in the class very well. On Friday is our last day of school for this term. We will have a three week long Christmas Break. I will then have time for spending some time with friends, working, studying and going skiing (our family and an Australian Exchange ((from our district, 9790, Rachael Ryan)) are going skiing up in the mountains the week after New Years.) Life is normal again. It has taken some time to settle in, in terms of getting used to "my normal" life. My life consists of school, homework, singing, playing floorball and meet friends. There will be two big Christmas Concerts in the church on Sunday and I will do a solo performance. I really enjoy singing and music. Please say Hello to all the Corowa Rotarians and wish them a Merry Christmas from me, and Thank You all again for hosting me. I wish you a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year. I’m sure you will have a lovely hot aussie Christmas together. Love Charlotte

Our current out bound Exchange student to Germany Sebastian is arriving back in Australia on 17th Jan 2010 at 20.20 at Tullamarine Airport. We should have some members welcome him home. Julie and Don are going down...but as they are no longer Rotarians, someone else should be there. Margaret and Graham will be away. Could you put it in the Bulletin for a couple of weeks, so folk can get their diaries in gear?

Our current inbound Exchange Student Anders Lasson from Denmark and our last year’s out bound Exchange Student to Japan Vanessa Miegel
