“There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to the
human race by which we are to be saved."
It has been over two thousand years since Jesus gave the Apostles The Great Commission. “Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations…teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Mt 28: 19-20). Even in this day of the World-Wide Internet, this com-mand to preach and teach the Gospel remains as neces-sary today as it was in Jesus’ time. Many of us now living in the United States may not realize that there are still billions of people in our time who have never heard of Jesus and the Good News of salvation of which Peter speaks in today’s First Reading. Indeed, it is estimated that of the 7.47 billion people alive in the world today, 3.15 billion of them live in unreached people groups with little or no access to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. According to Joshua Project, a research initiative seeking to highlight the groups in our world with the fewest followers of Christ, there are approximately 16,800 unique people groups in the world with about 6,900 of them considered unreached. These unreached groups lack enough followers of Christ and resources to evangelize their own people. The vast majority (95%) of these least reached groups exist (where) less than 10% of missionary work is done among these people. Many Christians are committed to the missionary activity of the universal Church. They give of their resources to support our mission to evangelize these “unreached groups.” This is a most necessary and worthy effort. But, the New Evangelization begins in our own homes, neighborhoods and workplace. The way that we speak Jesus to those He brings into our lives, is the way that we “go everywhere and preach and teach” all that He has revealed to us. In the Church of Boston, we have been called to a New Evangelization, entitled Disciples in Mission. This initiative calls each one of us to share the Good News “in the culture of our time.” In our secularized world, there are those who have been baptized in the Name of Jesus, but do not live their lives in His Spirit. Many remain committed to the mores of an anti-Christian culture, not their faith. According to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops: New Evangelization calls each of us to deepen our faith, believe in the Gospel message and go forth to proclaim the Gospel…The New Evangelization invites
each Catholic to renew their relationship with Jesus Christ and his Church. Even if we strive to and follow Jesus’ Way, Truth and Life, a Christian life is one of constant transformation. Conversion is an on-going process. We will never “be perfect as God is perfect,” which is the command Jesus has given us. But we are called to strive for this perfection. Faith is not something that only happens to each of us individually or privately, within ourselves. The Gospel also speaks to society itself, with its values, goals, and systems. The Gospel must overflow from each heart until the presence of God transforms all human existence. Sometimes this means that, as believers, we must confront the world as did the prophets of old, pointing out the claims of God to societies that are blind to God. More often, however, this means that we must let our faith shine on the world around us, radiating the love of Jesus by the everyday way we speak, think, and act. The fruits of evangelization are changed lives and a changed world—holiness and justice, spirituality and peace. The validity of our having accepted the Gospel does not only come from what we feel or what we know; it comes also from the way we serve others, especially the poorest, the most marginal, the most hurting, the most defenseless, and the least loved. An evangelization that stays inside ourselves is not an evangelization into the Good News of Jesus Christ (A National Plan and Strategy for Catholic Evangeliza-tion in the United States, USCCB, 2001). So it is that we are called to be Disciples in Missions here-in the place God has called us-and in the world beyond ourselves. We are called to offer our prayerful support to those unreached groups who have yet to hear the Name that will bring them salvation. But we are also called to step out in faith to bring the Good News of Jesus to those who have heard His Name, but have yet to experience His Power in their lives. To do this, we must prepare ourselves-through worship, devotions, study and service-to be good evangelists. Imagine the power of good that will be unleased in our world when each of us strives to fulfill our mission as evangelists!

WE SHARE ONLINE GIVING UPDATE
We are happy to announce that effective April 16th, all donors giv-ing to Sacred Heart Parish or St. Thomas More Parish through our applicable WeShare link will now be protected by the automated security validation process known as reCaptcha. This is an added layer of security that offers our donors more safety and security by distinguishing between humans and automated computer programs to prevent fraud. This process will be familiar to you, as you have most likely experienced this security measure on other online mer-chant websites. Now when you set up a first-time recurring pay-ment, make a one-time donation, or pay for an event, you will be asked to validate the transaction before it is processed. You will first be asked to confirm that you are NOT a Robot, and then you will be asked to choose certain pictures in response to a question.
