COUNTY OF MONTGOMERY

WHEREAS, the property encumbered by this Animal Hus-bandry Policy is that property located in the Bentwater sub-division and comprised of multiple sections in Montgomery County, Texas, and any other property which has been or may be made subject to the authority of Bentwater Property Own-ers Association, Inc. (Association); andWHEREAS, the board voted at a regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees (the Board) of the Association held on May 11, 2012, said meeting properly called and a quorum being present, pursuant to the Texas Business Organizations code, hereby adopts this Policy which shall run with the land and be binding on all owners and lots within the subdivision. This Policy replaces any previously recorded or implemented policy that addresses the subjects contained herein.

I. ANIMAL CONTROLNo Owner shall permit any dog, cat or other domestic pet under his ownership or control to be left unattended outside on such Owners Lot or allow such animal to engage in loud howl-ing or barking, crying or whining or to conduct itself in such a manner so as to disturb the comfort and repose of any person inside the Subdivision. Such pets must be housed inside the residence during the period of time the owner or person respon-sible for such pet is absent.

A Trip to Brenham

The Antique Friends group took an enjoyable trip to Brenham. Donna Shepherd did a won-derful job of planning the day right down to the last detail.

The first stop was Leftovers Antiques and Home Mercantile. They literally have everything from soup to nuts, beautiful home furnishings, flower arrangements, dcor, jewelry and anything you could possibly need for your home. Nancy's, on the outskirts of Brenham, was the second stop. Four old houses and buildings have been con-verted to shops displaying country antiques and furnishings.

By this time all were hungry, so lunch was at Volare's, an Italian restaurant a couple of blocks from the town square. It did not disappoint; the food was delicious.

After lunch, everyone split up and visited as many of the shops around the square as they could. Naturally, they had to rest their feet at Must Be Heaven and have ice cream and pie. They stumbled onto a lot of good finds, visited with good friends, and had another fun outing.

When it was time for the Kentucky Derby, one of Americas oldest racing events, it was complete with mint juleps, women in outrageous hats and plenty of wagering. Bentwater home-owners Ann and John Cavanaugh, former residents of Ken-tucky, might not always be able to get back for the race, but it doesnt stop them from enjoying the race in their home with plenty of friends at their semi-annual Kentucky Derby party. This year was no exception. Guests began arriving around 4:30, about an hour before the race to have a couple of drinks and engage in lively discussions about their favorite horses before placing their bets.

The gracious hosts provided guests with plenty of libations and food as well as the chance to put a couple of dollars on a horse, which made watching the race much more fun. Many of the

guests arrived in hats, everything from large brimmed styles with flowers and feathers to small cloches. Even some of the men showed up ready for the hat contest. The winning hats were a large brimmed green hat belonging to Lynne Tolles and Doug Rogges red and white jockeys cap complimented by a pair of goggles.

Soon it was race time and everyone gathered in front of the TV. Most of the betters expected the favorites Bodemeister and Union Rags to make the race close; few expected Ill Have Another to win. The race was over in a couple of minutes and there was jubilation from some who made the right bet and gnashing of teeth from the losers. After a couple of minutes, everyone was back to having a good time and it was just another day at the races in Bentwater.

Bentwaters Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restric-tions, reads, in part:

The only motorized vehicles allowed on the roads and street ease-ments in the Subdivision shall be golf carts with a current permit issued by the Bentwater Country Club and further,

Vehicles, regardless of type, may only be operated by individuals holding a current drivers license valid in the State of Texas.

Any violation of the rules may result in a sanction by the Asso-ciation of one or more of the following:

A. Warning of a violation

B. Fines charged to the owner for the violation:1. First violation $100.002. Second violation $500.003 Each occurrence thereafter $500.00

C. If the owner continues to violate the rules after the imposi-tion of the fines as stated above, the Association may then revoke the golf cart permit for up to 60 days or, in the case of continued violations after the initial suspension, per-manently prohibit the owner from using a golf cart on the streets within Bentwater.

The registered owner is responsible for the golf cart, whether or not they are present during reported infractions.

Requires current permit from the Country Club and licensed driver

Bentwater Garden Club members recently enjoyed their very own Garden Club Tour. The turnout was excellent as 48 members toured the homes of Donna and Bob Shepherd, Phillis and Paul Pod-lipny and Miriam and Stan Hemmeline. After admiring three lovely spring gardens, the group enjoyed refreshments at Miriam's house where an Italian - Eclectic spread was washed down with Margaritas and Sangria!

This meeting was the last before the summer break. The next meeting will be on September 6, when they will have a demonstration using plants from their gardens to decorate their homes.

The gardeners rested under a shady spot in Miri-am's beautifully sculpted garden on the lake.

Members saw what Phillis has done with a relatively small yard. Her very creative use of containers is a highlight of this garden.

Splish Splash: Summer FitnessSummer is the time to get out and get fit. Bentwater is the per-fect place for sun in the fun, with our beautiful swimming pools and, of course, the lake. The Fitness Center ramps up the group fitness schedule during the summer months by including Water Aerobics which is one of our most highly anticipated programs of the year. You can get in a great work out outdoors, but still keep cool in the pool.

The Fitness Center offers private swim lessons. Improve your swimming ability this summer to feel more confident and safe in the water. Perfect for swimmers of all ages and ability levels! We invite you to come and relax at our pools. All you have to do is grab your suit and show up and enjoy the summer sun!

The Yacht Club Pool is also a great spot to spend time with friends and family, or just lay out by the pool overlooking beau-tiful Lake Conroe.


BLO Bentwater Ladies OrganizationSummer at Bentwater is in full swing. Kids and grandkids are visiting, residents are traveling and everyone is playing golf and tennis or just having fun on the lake or by the pool. And even though the Bentwater Ladies Organization is technically on hiatus for the summer, committees and interest groups are still busy. After the very successful May luncheon featuring the Businesswomen of Bentwater and a fab fashion show from White House Black Market, you would think everyone needed a rest. Not the ladies of BLO. The Antiques Ladies are still searching for that special one of a kind item that will make their collections complete; The Art to Lunch group continues to enjoy exhibitions and great restaurants in Houston; and all of the dining groups are still eating in, out and gourmet!

BLO president Jill Cambern wants to remind everyone that beginning in September, the monthly Bentwater Ladies Orga-nization meetings will move to Thursday. The September meeting will be on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 and will feature a quartet of classical guitarists. You dont want to miss this meeting as it will be your last chance to sign up for the girls only Annual BLO Gambling and Golf Bus Trip to Coushatta casino in Kinder, Louisiana, which leaves on Wednesday, Octo-ber 24 and returns on Thursday, October 25.

In addition to this fun trip, we will also be taking reservations for the Nutcracker Market bus trip at the September meet-ing. The Nutcracker Market, held at Reliant Center, is a no holds barred, super colossal shop till you drop event. We go by bus, are dropped off at the door and spend the day ogling fabulous

jewelry, shoes, purses, Christmas decorations, gifts, foods and MORE! And even better, the bus parks by the door and we are able to drop off our packages, sit down and rest in the cool and quiet bus and then go back for more. The date for this trip is November 9.

More than 20 dedicated Bentwater residents volunteer their time each week at the Gathering Place at First United Method-ist Church in Conroe. The Gathering Place, ably spearheaded by former Bentwater Resident Dayna Savage, is a non-denom-inational ministry in partnership with Interfaith CarePartners, which seeks to help both caregivers and care partners living life

Bentwaters famous Chordbusters recently performed at The Gathering Place at First United Methodist Church on Highway 105W near Loop 336 West in Conroe. They are stunning as well as talented!

with Alzheimers and related dementia. The Gathering Place was created to help families who care for their loved ones at home. Neighborhood Watch ProgramPlanning Your Summer Vacation

Summer vacation time is here and for many families it means planning a road trip to the beach or jetting to a far away place. If your home is going to be unattended for an extended amount of time, you may wish to use the following vacation check list:

- Leave a house key and your alarm code with a neighbor or family member.

- Verify with your alarm company that your call list is current. You need not tell them you will be on vacation.

- Test your smoke detectors and alarm system before you leave.

- Set automatic timers for lights so the house appears occupied.

- Dont cancel your paper or mail deliveries; ask that your neigh-bor pick them up everyday.

- Dont use social media to inform the world that you are on vacation.

- Avoid keeping valuables such as jewelry or large sums of cash in your home.

- Turn off the water to your washing machine in the event a water hose breaks.

In the summer months, Montgomery County children are not being fed by their schools; so many families rely on the Mont-gomery County Food Bank to help put food on the table.

Keeping our children and grandchildren active during the sum-mer months is always a top priority. Here at Bentwater its easy to do, thanks to various sporting and outdoor programs for kids of all ages.

Junior Golf Summer Camp: Calling all young golfers! Bentwaters Junior Golf Summer Camps are in full swing as instructor Mark Massengale teaches young golfers the fundamentals of the game, including the full swing, putting, chipping and pitching.

Were playing games and learning the rules and etiquette of golf, all in a fun environment, said Massengale.

The camps are for kids ages five through 16 and run from nine until noon each day.

While Massengale makes sure the Junior Golf Summer Camps are educational, hes also keeping the kids engaged and getting their families involved. Each Thursday evening of the Junior Summer Golf Camp we have the Family Skills Challenge; my staff and I design the putting green into something similar to miniature golf. said Massengale. Its a fun time for the whole family to get together and play golf.

Kamp Bentwater 2012 Many of our younger residents are enjoying some fun in the sun this summer thanks to Kamp Bentwater 2012.

Each session of Kamp is jam packed with activities that are keep-ing our kiddos active and allowing them to make new friends.

Whether its swimming, fishing or playing in the park, partici-pants are getting plenty of fun exercise.

Each Kamp runs from Tuesday until Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Most Kampers reserved their spot this spring, but a few spots may still be available due to cancellations.

We encourage you to take similar action, beginning with evalu-ation of your homes irrigation system. Listed below are a few helpful tips:

- Set your timers to irrigate only between the hours of 12:00 am to 6:00 am to reduce evaporation.

- Applying one inch of water a week to grass, wetting the soil to 4-6 inches, is a general rule beginning in mid-late spring and adjusting slightly during summer/fall. Little to no water-ing is needed during the winter months. Overwatering, the most common mistake, promotes shallow roots. Deep roots are needed for grass to thrive during Texas summers.

- Use soaker-type systems when possible to prevent evaporation.

- Equip your irrigation system with rain sensors.

- Dont water sidewalks and driveways.

- Use fertilizer wisely. Too much fertilizer promotes excessive growth which requires more water.

Erik became a plebe on July 1, 2011 and has just completed his first year at the Academy. He will be stationed on board the USS Peleliu, a Tarawa-Class amphibious assault ship of the United States Navy, from May 30 to June 22, to complete his first sea trials. Rise in Asian Tiger Shrimp Sightings Prompts Scientific Look at Invasion Concerns

The recent rise in sightings of non-native Asian tiger shrimp off the U.S. Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts has govern-ment scientists working to determine the cause of the increase and the possible con-sequences for native fish and seafood in those waters.

Researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey and National Oceanic and Atmo-spheric Administration are working with state agencies from North Carolina to Texas to look into how this transplanted

species from Indo-Pacific, Asian and Australian waters reached U.S. waters, and what the increase in sightings means for native species.

We can confirm there was nearly a tenfold jump in reports of Asian tiger shrimp in 2011, explained Pam Fuller, USGS biologist.

The Asian tiger shrimp represents yet another potential marine invader capable of altering fragile marine ecosystems,

said NOAA marine ecologist James Morris. Our efforts will include assess-ments to predict impacts, economically and ecologically. The cause of the rapid increase in sightings remains uncertain, Fuller added.

Anyone who sees one or more shrimp sus-pected to be an Asian tiger shrimp is asked to note the location and report the sight-ing to the USGS NAS database at http://nas.er.usgs.gov/SightingReport.aspx.

Make no mistake about it, Bentwater residents love pets and our family is no exception. We are the proud owners of a nine-year old boxer named Benny who is a Northerner-born in Ohio and lived for three years in Pittsburgh before we moved him out of the snow and into the heat. Once he decided he liked the sun, it was OK with him.

Benny chugged along for years, king of his domain (the yard), until about 18 months ago when he started to slow down. He

didnt want to go out and greet everyone any longer; he didnt eat, he was breathing hard and collapsed a couple of times. The vet suspected a heart problem and sent us to a pet cardiologist. Tests were run-a lot of tests ($$$$$) - and he gave Benny some meds. After another collapsing incident, our vet recommended the Vet school at Texas A&M. After more tests and new medi-cation, Benny started getting better and acting like his old self.

Benny has been a patient at A&M for a year now and he con-tinues to do well. So, keep an eye out for Benny the Boxer hanging out in his yard and say hi as he loves to visit. FYI-Three of Bennys prescriptions are human prescriptions and we get them filled at Walgreens where Benny has his own pre-scription card. It saves us a lot of money each month. If your pet is on regular prescriptions, you might want to check and see if they are available at your preferred pharmacy.

FLAG POLICYShowing Your Patriotism

Displaying the Stars and Stripes

FLAG POLES: Lets talk flagpoles. POA regulations say you can only have one flag pole on your property, and it must be constructed of perma-nent, long-lasting materials.

No flag poles may be mounted on trees.

Flagpoles may either be mounted to your home or freestand-ing (located in the backyard and may not be taller than 20-feet when measured from the ground level).

No flagpole can be placed within an easement on your lot or in a location that encroaches on a setback of your lot.

If you want a freestanding flagpole, you will need to submit an application with the Architectural Control Committee (ACC) showing the proposed location of the pole along with pictures showing the location and the manufacturers brochure.

As for mounted flagpoles, they can be attached to either the front or back of the home but can be no longer than five feet. Flagpoles mounted to your home do not require approval from the ACC.

DISPLAYING THE FLAG: So lets say you have properly installed your permanent flagpole and are ready to display your flags. Keep this rule in mind: the

American flag is always the first one raised and last one lowered. U. S. Flag code states the American flag should be at the highest point on the flagpole with the state flag beneath it and the mili-tary flag below the state flag.

The American flag and Texas flag should not be displayed out-doors earlier than sunrise or later than sunset unless the flag(s) are to be displayed 24 hours a day, in which case they must be properly illuminated during hours of darkness. In Bentwater, if you choose to leave your flag out during evening and nighttime hours, the flag must be lit from the base of the flagpole with a maximum of two bulbs and no more than 150 watts. The light must shine directly on the flag and cannot cause any spillover onto neighboring properties. All exterior lighting must be sub-mitted to the ACC for prior approval.

ONLY U.S., TEXAS, official replica of ANY BRANCH OF THE U. S. MILITARY flags may be flown: Recent revisions to POA policy states the U.S. flag doesnt have to fly solo. Bent-water homeowners can now show their support for the state of Texas and our U.S. armed forces by flying our state flag and an official replica flag of any branch of the U.S. military.

University/college flags, company flags, nature flags, and other types may not be flown.

FLAG CONDITION: As for the flag itself, it must be the appropriate size for the flag-pole and it must be in good condition. If you notice your flag is frayed or torn, you must replace it.

A SUMMARY:1. Only one flag pole. 2. Can be mounted on your home in the front or back

OR, install a freestanding flagpole in backyard only (some front yard poles are grandfathered). ACC application required.

UNITED WAY Did You Know?Contributed by Bentwater resident Michael CrookMontgomery County United Way has five priorities described on its website. One of the priorities is providing temporary assis-tance in the event of a crisis. Most of us rarely think about how individuals, families or organizations will benefit from our gifts and donations to United Way. We have faith that whatever we give enables United Way to help those in need somewhere. In fact, Montgomery County United Way and Bentwater Days of Caring volunteers served our Bentwater community this spring.

In the spring, Sue and Don Williams, parents of Bentwater Country Club employee Becky Ham, lost their Cut n Shoot home and all of its content to a fire. Montgomery County United Way, helped provide them with a voucher for clothing and furniture from the Angelic Resale Shop. United Way volunteers helped clean up the fire damaged property and provided names of contactors to rebuild their house. We really appreciate all the help the Bentwater community and Montgomery County United Way have given us, Ham said.
