From the time Kaleb Charanza was a little boy he would play with toy army men and say that is the only thing he ever wanted to be. Charanza is the son of Bentwater residents Donna and Scott White and Bobby and Jaimie Charanza of Rockdale, Texas.

Charanza attended Medina High School and was involved in athletics, theatre arts and debate. He won the Samuel Finch award for “Outstanding Actor” and was an area track qualifier. He attended St. Edwards University in Austin for one year. At the same time

he was involved in ROTC at the Univer-sity of Texas and he is currently taking classes while he is enlisted.

Charanza attended boot camp in Califor-nia and is now deployed to the Arabian Sea. He is stationed on the USS Harry Truman, where he’ll be for eight months. He is an Avionics Technician for the U.S. Marine Corps and works on F18’s.

His family is very proud of him and would appreciate the thoughts and prayers of everyone while he is serving our country.

Bentwater residents Debra Spincic and Yvonne Koelzer collec-tively have more than 75 years of quilting experience. The ladies decided to combine their sewing expertise, artistic passion and generous spirit to create a one-of-a-kind quilt for the annual American Cancer Society Fundraiser.

As they shared design ideas, they agreed the colors should be bright, uplifting and convey hopefulness. They looked for a design that gave an optical illusion of a 3-D effect. After studying various designs, the repeated V-shaped “chevron pat-tern” was their clear choice. The earliest known use of the chevron pattern is found on Minoan pottery, dating from 1800 B.C. The design motif has been used in fabrics, both woven

and printed, for several hundred years. Debra and Yvonne envisioned the chevron pattern would give the quilt the 3-D accordion effect they wanted.

The 50 X 60 inch quilt has 10 panels. By the time the quilt was completed, they had spent 240 hours, more than 3 weeks, creat-ing the Ribbons of Hope masterpiece.

Ribbons of Hope is being raffled off as part of Bentwater’s annual American Cancer Society’s Fundraiser. Debra and Yvonne hope that each purchase of a raffle ticket is an expression of hope for our loved ones, cancer patients and survivors.

Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20; you can also purchase 30 tickets for $100. Tickets are being sold at various events in Bentwater or can be purchased by calling Sharon Jones at 936-597-8254 or Beryl Korb at 936-597-3927. The drawing will be held on April 15 at the ACS fundraiser, which will be held at the Country Club.

Rozi Turnbull and her husband, Bill, moved to Bentwater last fall when Bill’s career in the oil industry required them to return to Texas. “We decided to buy on the lake in Bentwater to enjoy our free time on the lake between my husband’s work schedule,” said Turnbull.

The Turnbulls moved to Houston from Alaska in 2002, until BP temporarily relocated them to Indonesia. Whether she’s in Texas, Indonesia, Scotland or Alaska, you can bet Turnbull is not far from a paint brush and canvas.

A native of England, she grew up in an artistic family; both of her sisters also paint and her brother is a musician. Their parents always encouraged them to be creative and use their artistic talents.

In her previous career, Turnbull was in designer clothing in England. She arranged high end fashion shows, working with Charles Jourdan, Valentino, Armani and Ereuno. Now her focus is on her paintings and creating one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces. Turnbull works mostly in water-based mediums, mixed media on paper canvas or board.

“My work is a continual attempt to understand the person-ality of a single brushstroke when it has life and movement, when it comprises and blends, where it is so purposely placed that it rings true,” said Turnbull.

Turnbull’s work is on display at the gallery of the Conroe Art League, where she teaches evening art classes. You can also view her amazing art work on her website, roziturnbull.com.

city limits live!Bentwater

The Bentwater City Limits Singers are gearing up for a one-of-a-kind concert you won’t want to miss, directed by famed Bent-water resident Keith Ann Gearn.

You’ll hear the songs of the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and maybe they’ll even sneak in an 80’s tune! Everyone will recognize the songs and many special memories will bring smiles and laughter to the tables. The music moves and grooves and some can’t help but get up and dance. Forty voices will take you from Big Band to Rock and Roll, from the Beach Boys to the Beatles. You might even hear a little Cash or Willy. It’s a live band. There are no recordings at this venue. And it’s all designed to give our com-munity a wonderful evening of food and fellowship in partner-ship with The American Cancer Society.

Bentwater City Limits will light up the Yacht Club February 21, 22 and 23.

If you are interested in becoming a part of the Bentwater City Limits Singers, or want more information about their upcoming performances at the Yacht Club, contact Keith Ann by email at [email protected].

BLO CELEBRATES 20 YEARS!

The BLO is celebrating 20 years in Bentwater with a special style show featuring past presidents as models. The style show will be the program for the February 11th luncheon with fashions pro-vided by Hotsie Totsie of Montgomery. Hotsie Totsie is owned by Bentwater resident and BLO member, Cathy Wilson. Please login at www.bentwater.com to sign up for the luncheon.

In March, the BLO luncheon on the 11th will have a “Go Tex-an” theme. Attendees are encouraged to wear western wear and will enjoy a program of western dancing by Laura Balmaceda of Affinity Ballroom in The Woodlands.

Our well-attended January meeting was busy with members signing up for a variety of year-long activities. Many activities in Bentwater are hosted through BLO; such as Antiques, Art

to Lunch, Marathon Bridge, Dining Groups, and Needle and Tea. Other organizations also participated in the sign-up event including LGA, Wineaux, CAR, Assistance League, Bentwater Civic Association and many more.

If you are new to Bentwater and have not joined the Bentwater Ladies Organization, it is not too late to get involved. Even if you work during the day, you can join and become a part of the evening activities. It is a great way to meet new people. You can sign up by logging onto the Bentwater website. Just look for the BLO Luncheon listing and sign up. And don’t worry about having a place to sit… we have a Newcomer’s table where you can meet other new residents and our charming newcomer committee. The next meeting will be on Monday, February 11 at the Yacht Club at 11:30 am. We hope to see you there!

Thousands of trees here in Bentwater are among those that have fallen victim to the extreme heat and lack of rainfall we’ve expe-rienced over the past couple of years.

The POA is doing what it can to identify these trees, so we can notify property owners. The process of locating these trees and documenting them is a tedious and time consuming task. Once we notify property owners, they are responsible for having the trees removed. We ask that homeowners be patient throughout this process and lend a hand if possible. If you spot a dead tree in Bentwater, please feel free to take a photo and bring it to us here at the POA office. We appreciate any help, as it is our goal to keep Bentwater beautiful.

The Country Club lawn was transformed into a Winter Won-derland as residents gathered to enjoy the start of the holiday season. The annual event pulled out all the stops. Attendees enjoyed hot cocoa as children made ornaments for their tree, slid down an icy, snow covered slide on tubes and visited with the man himself – Santa Claus.

Everyone enjoyed the sounds of holiday music and enjoyed the lights that decorated the Country Club and Fitness Center and of course the beautiful display at the Main Gate.

It was the perfect way to kick off cooler weather and the holi-day season!

“There’s no place like home,” or as four generations of one fam-ily will tell you, “there’s no place like BENTWATER.”

One of our youngest residents, Hannah Grace Gwin, was born on September 20th to proud parents, Robert and Sarah Gwin. She weighed 6 pounds 15 ounces and was 19 ¼ inches long. In 2009, Sarah and Robert moved to Bentwater to be closer to Sarah’s family: parents, Bentwater residents Kim and Todd Bartholet, and grandparents, Bob and Linda Spessard.

Making Bentwater a Family Traditiongenerations

The Bentwater Garden Club met at Delores Williams’ home for the annual Christmas Salad Luncheon. The home and garden were beautifully decorated. Thirty-six members attired in holiday dress attended the salad luncheon and took part in a gardening themed orna-ment gift exchange. The most popular items were those with birds (particularly red robins and cardinals), butterflies, owls, pine cones, holly and pecan shells. The most unusual ornament was a bird that was scented.

The buffet of salads was a marvelous thing to behold. The Garden Club ladies outdid themselves preparing wonderful salads and desserts.

The winners of the door prizes were: Nancy Caillouet, Pauline Tauer, Sher-rie Waggoner, Lynn Guilbault, Diane Wingenback and Barb Strouts.

If you are interested in the Garden Club, contact Phillis Podlipny at 936-597-5797.

This past year Sarah’s younger sister, Emily Bartholet, moved six houses down from her to become the fourth Bentwater family resident, making a grand total of four generations living in the same neighborhood!

We would like to continue featuring Families of Bentwater in Bentwater Life magazine. If you are part of the Levantino fam-ily, or the McKeown family, or any other family with multiple generations calling Bentwater home, we’d love to hear from you!

There are many more adventures as well as times of tranquil-ity to be experienced in our community. Let’s continue to work together in protecting, preserving and enhancing our beautiful Bentwater Life.

Bentwater property owner Alice Bradley likes to sneak away to Hollywood every now and then. While people like to search for celebrities on Rodeo Drive and at other Los Angeles hot spots, Bradley knows exactly where to find a true star – on the set of daytime soap General Hospital. That’s where her daughter, Lindsey Morgan, works long hours portraying the character of Kristina Corinthos Davis, the daughter of the notorious mob-ster Sonny Corinthos and famous mob lawyer Alexis Davis.

“She plays it pretty well. People say her character is just like she is at home – sweet and kind unless she gets mad and she can turn on the drama. She plays a mob princess very easily,” laughed Bradley.

Since she was a young girl, Morgan dreamed of being an actress, but she didn’t find the instant success she’d hoped for. While attending the University of Texas at Austin, one of her profes-sors encouraged her to pursue film. She went on numerous casting calls, including one for a role in the popular television series Friday Night Lights. Although she made it through several callbacks, she didn’t get the part. The process, however, gave her the confidence she needed to make the decision to leave college and move to L.A. There she enrolled in several acting classes and immediately began going to more auditions.

“I was pretty upset, but I know she’s an adult and she promised me she’d go back to college one day. She was on the Dean’s List, that’s what made it so hard for me,” added Bradley.

When Morgan made the move to L.A. in 2010, her fate began to change. She earned roles in two theatrical releases. The first was Detention, which starred Josh Hutcherson and Dane Cook; the second, DisCONNECTED, an MTV movie about cyber bullying. Soon after, she landed the role on General Hospital.

“I’m very proud of her. I’m happy that she has found a role with integrity and is not losing her ethics to further her career. She has a good head on her shoulders and that makes us and her grandmothers proud,” said Bradley.

Although Morgan loves her life in L.A., her mother said Hous-ton will always have a place in her heart. “Los Angeles is where she belongs; she absolutely loves it. But she always says, ‘they are not as kind as the people in Houston,’” Bradley added.

Morgan is almost one year into her four year contract with General Hospital, but she will be taking time out of her busy schedule to speak at the BLO luncheon on September 9th at the Country Club.

The Bentwater Marathon Bridge is sponsored by the BLO each year. In 2012, there were 32 teams competing.

The teams were put into three groups, and the teams played each other within their group. Winners were announced at the November luncheon. It is a great way to meet new people and enjoy some friendly competition! Another Great BLO Event

Men of Bentwater – MOBThe Men of Bentwater are working hard to host fascinating monthly luncheon speakers and plan the organization’s three popular annual golf events.

During the January MOB Luncheon, members heard from Bentwater resident Don Ferrarone, an ex-Drug Enforcement Administration agent who now writes screenplays and unearths story ideas for Hollywood action films.

Some of the films he has worked on include: Heat, Déjà Vu, Spy Game, Bad Boys II, National Treasure, Texas Killing Fields and Man on Fire.

This Month

The MOB is planning a special Valen-tine’s Day event similar to the dinner-theatre outings of the past two years, as well as the regular February MOB luncheon program. Visit the Bentwater Country Club Web site for details.

March Speaker: Exxon/Mobil Rep to Describe New Campus Project

Lined up for The MOB’s March 20th luncheon is a representative of Exxon/

Mobil who will discuss the corporation’s new Campus Project under development near The Woodlands at the intersection of I-45 and the Hardy Toll Road.

The overview by Exxon/Mobil Executive Roger Gladstone will be one of the first public discussions of the project offered presented to an area citizens group.

First announced some 18 months ago, the vast Campus Project reportedly cov-ers 385 acres and includes more than a dozen new office buildings, plus an array of support structures and facilities. Industry publications have reported that construction is expected to continue for two more years.

MOB Luncheon Format

MOB monthly luncheon meetings take place on the third Wednesday of each month, except July and August, at either the Bentwater Country Club or Yacht Club dining room. MOBsters start gath-ering around 11 a.m. with the luncheon starting at 11:30 a.m.

The format opens with 5-to-10 minutes of MOB business and discussion, fol-

lowed by lunch. The presentations of featured speakers usually last about 30 to 40 minutes, followed by a question/answer segment.

Mark Your Calendars: MOB Golf Events Slated in May, July and September

Once again the MOB is putting the final touches on its three ever-popular annual golf events — an overnight, out-of-town road trip in May, the fourth annual MOB Hotter-‘N-Hell caper at the Bentwater Country Club in July, and an “away” tournament at a close-by area golf club in September.

Handling the details are Bob Hentges, The MOB’s new board member and director of golf, supported by his prede-cessor, Jack Visage.

The three events last year drew more than 200 MOBsters, and since member-ship is at all-time highs, more players are expected in 2013.

Golf skills are not a pre-requisite for these outings, which feature fellowship and a good time. Players must be MOB members.

True beauty is something everyone carries. It is rare, however, for people to open their hearts and let it be shown. Imagine yourself as someone without the ability to see the world around you, someone who has no vision at all, who cannot see the breathtaking features of our earth. If you were to meet someone for the first time, you would not be able to see the beauty they show on the outside, but if they carried true beauty, you would experience it, simply by listening to the kindness and purity that comes through their heart.

Who we are should not just be defined by our physical appear-ance, or our natural talents and abilities. It is the way we treat others, what kindness and love we bring, and how we share the light within us with everyone and everything around us.

Feeling true beauty within you is something you should cher-ish and be proud of. Knowing you glow brighter than a radiant beam from the sun, and show a love deeper than the kindness in the Lord’s heart is something to keep with you forever. True Beauty lies within us all, and it is our responsibility to let it radi-ate out into the world!

Bentwater resident Lacey Binding, a Montgomery High School sophomore, and her mother, Tara Binding, recently spent time in Anaheim, Califor-nia at the National American Miss (NAM) Junior Teen Pageant 2012 National Finals. Lacey was one of 134 Junior Teen representatives from all over the United States. It was a great experience, allowing Lacey to meet new friends, visit Disney Land and shop on Rodeo Drive. But perhaps the most memorable part of the trip was the success Lacey achieved when her pageant essay was rec-ognized as the NAM Junior Teen Alumnae Essay Scholarship winner for 2012. The title of the win-ning essay is “A Vision of True Beauty.”

Lacey was kind enough to share the award-win-ning essay with Bentwater Life. Thank you, Lacey, and congratulations on a job well done!

A Vision of True BeautyBy: Lacey Binding

The vision of perfection and beauty in my eyes is pure. Real beauty is deeper than the eye can see and shines like a diamond in the rough. Discovering genuine beauty takes much more than looking at ones physical appearance; it takes looking into the soul of the human being before you and searching for the spar-kle that they carry inside. As Elisabeth Kubler once said “People around you are like stained glass windows. They sparkle when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is light within.”

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” Oftentimes it is difficult to find just the right recipe to take away the bitterness and make the lemonade sweet. As the lemonade recipe goes, so goes our lives. There are a myriad of things that can happen to us in life that can cause us to have hurts, habits and hang-ups. Whether it is having been bullied on the playground as a child, to suffering the loss of a loved one, a divorce, a drug addicted or alcoholic child or spouse, dealing with one’s own alcoholism or childhood sexual abuse, abortion guilt or domestic violence, healing from any of the problems of life can be a challenge that is difficult to tackle. We are very blessed and fortunate to live in this amazing com-munity called Bentwater, but that blessing and privilege does not provide immunity from life’s battles and the scars that are often left behind. There is something, however, that can help the scars fade away.

Recently, the pastors at North Shore Church asked me to attend a seminar to investigate a recovery ministry called Celebrate Recovery. We had all heard of it and knew that it was a ministry that was started by Rick Warren and John Baker of Saddleback Church in California, but we weren’t quite sure how it worked or if it would be a fit for our church and our community. Recently I completed my master’s degree in Therapeutic Mediation and Christian Counseling and I went through a recovery program several years back as a result of childhood issues that had haunt-ed me well into adulthood. It seemed a natural fit for me to go to the seminar and see what this program was all about.

As I sat in the room full of people from all over the country, I realized that they were no different than me. They had all either recovered or were on the road to recovery from a variety of life’s hurts. Their stories were so moving and inspirational. As I lis-tened it became evident that it was God at work in each of their lives that was the common thread. I heard stories of a marriage that is reconciled, several types of addiction that had finally been broken, grief from the loss of a child healed, depression finally lifted, eating disorders resolved and even same sex attraction that was being eliminated. I realized that, as these people told their stories… God is still interested in healing both our bodies and our hearts. He wants hearts that are broken, ashamed, victimized or addicted to have hope that He loves them and wants to heal them.

I came away from this training not only equipped to teach what I had learned, but eager to spread the word that Celebrate Recovery would be coming to North Shore Church. This is a whole family approach to healing that helps children and teens heal from hurts at the same time their parents are heal-ing. Whether you are 5 or 95, it is never too early or too late to learn about the healing power of Jesus Christ. Being healed and whole is a beautiful thing that we all deserve and we can all have. To get more information on Celebrate Recovery or for private counseling, call the church at 936-597-7000 and leave a message. Your call will be confidentially returned.

Abundant Blessings,Tammye Markle

It is very user friendly which is great; it really couldn’t be easier. I have never had an occasion to use the email notification of guests arrival… haven’t given any surprise parties but that would be extremely helpful. I really do not have any suggestions for improvement; it’s just perfect for me. Thanks for making it easy for us Bentwater residents!”Laura Kubiak

“The online system was an excellent idea and makes it much more efficient to clear people to enter Bentwater. By entering the information yourself, you are able to record clearance on a real time basis and also eliminate the possibility of errors or delays from having the entrance staff record the information from phone calls.”Terry Karka

The volunteer Auxiliary of the Conroe Regional Medi-cal Center held their annual holiday party at the Bent-water Yacht Club. After a wonderful lunch, the Madri-gal Singers of Montgomery High School gave an excel-lent performance for the vol-unteers. New Auxiliary officers were installed for 2013, with the outgoing President, Bentwater resident Lynn Berringer, being honored by the incoming President, Bill Vance, also a Bentwater resident. Jerry Nash, the CEO of the Conroe Regional Medical Center, addressed the group and discussed future directions and construction plans for the hospital. He thanked the Auxiliary for their 33,000 hours of service in 2012 and encouraged them for the coming year.

The mission of the Auxiliary of Conroe Regional Medical Center is to support and assist the hospital and community in

maintaining a caring, compassionate and supportive hospital. They provide a friendly link to all patients, patient families and hospital staff, and work to provide a sympathetic and stress reduced environment.

The volunteers serve in various areas such as manning informa-tion desks at entrances. They act as hosts in waiting rooms for Surgery, Cath Lab, ER, and the ICU to help patients and their families. Volunteers drive carts to assist in transporting people in parking lots. They assist the hospital in specialty areas such as imaging, nuclear medicine and occupational therapy. The volun-teers also operate a gift shop in the hospital, proceeds of which

are used to give back to the community by supporting local agencies such as Women’s Center, Children’s Safe Harbor and the Conroe Chaplaincy Association. In 2012 they also funded $36,000 in scholarships for Montgomery County High School graduates to pursue the study of medicine or other health relat-ed fields.

If anyone has a few hours a week to spare and wants a way to give back to our community, consider serving as a hospital volunteer. The Auxiliary will provide training and match assign-ments to your interests. Contact the CRMC Volunteer office (936) 539-7433.

October – December 2012

During the final three months of 2012, the Montgomery County Sheriff ’s Office responded to 14 alarms, three welfare checks and four incidents of criminal mischief within Bentwater. Two of the criminal mischief cases involved the vandalism of outdoor holiday decorations; one involved a home being wrapped with toilet paper and the final involved tires of a vehicle being slashed.

Starch up the Wranglers, polish your boots and mark your cal-endars. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is upon us.

Reliant Park will transform into a cowboy’s dreamland, starting Monday, February 25. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) is the world’s largest livestock show and rodeo dedicated to benefiting youth, supporting education and facilitating better agricultural practices through exhibitions and presentation.

Along with the world-class rodeo cowboys and cowgirls enter-taining more than 70,000 people each night, you’ll find amazing livestock exhibits, unique vendors, mouthwatering food, one-of-a-kind art and of course, nightly concerts featuring the best entertainers in the music industry today.

Bentwater resident Dave Clements will also be there, capturing all of the excitement with his camera lens. He has shared with us some of the photos from the 2012 HLSR, just to offer a taste of what’s to come.

This year, country music superstar Toby Keith will open the rodeo on Monday, February 25. And the “King of Country”, George Strait, along with Martina McBride and the Randy Rogers Band will close out the rodeo on Sunday, March 17, as part of Strait’s farewell concert tour.

Concert tickets are on sale now at rodeohouston.com.

See the Calendar of Events at the back of this issue of Bentwater Life for a full concert lineup!

“Never in our wildest dreams did we think we would visit two such unique continents, certainly not in the same year! One, a crystal desert with beautiful unassuming wildlife; the other, varied landscapes with exquisite wild animals,” said Bentwater friends, Linda Pierce and Janice Slaughter.

The two women, who share a love for adventure travel, had set their sights on a trip to Antarctica in February of 2010. They made it down to Ushuaia in Argentina, boarded a ship to cross the Drake Passage, and then learned the trip would be cancelled due to equipment problems on the ship. With determination, they immediately booked another trip to the “crystal desert” con-tinent for January 2012. This time they flew from Punta Arenas in Chile to Antarctica. Their effort to get there was so worthwhile: gorgeous icebergs surrounded by bright blue sea, penguin colo-nies nesting with their babies and seals riding on ice floes. The adventure included navigating through icy channels and hearing the ice crunch, hiking up snowy mountains and riding down on

their backsides, riding in zodiacs and seeing reflections of snowy mountains in the still and quiet waters and enjoying the warm hospitality on the ship after an adventurous day.

Then in August of 2012, they travelled to Africa for an “ulti-mate African experience.” Their adventure included staying in five tented camps in three countries: Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. They enjoyed up close and personal encounters with the “big five”: elephants, leopards, lions, hippos and rhinos; and a variety of other beautiful animals and birds. Other highlights included an introduction to life in a village in Zimbabwe and a hike plus helicopter ride around the awesome Victoria Falls. Their African experience was capped off with a stay in and around Cape Town, South Africa.

Although their travels have taken them far from home, they always remember their Bentwater community with their “THIS IS THE LIFE!” sign.

UNITED WAYNew faces for 2013

Bentwater’s Montgomery County United Way (MCUW) is already hard at work, helping to benefit the lives of others in 2013. MCUW ended 2012 by helping make Christmas a little brighter for a nonprofit that serves intellectually disabled youths and adults.

getting them ready for the big sale. The plant sale is part of the facility’s annual fundraising effort.

Bridgewood Farms was founded in 1967 to provide opportunities and lifestyle choices for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The 53-acre facility provides programs for individuals who are 16 years and older.

A special thank you…

A special thank you goes out to departing Bentwater United Way Leadership mem-bers Patti Mennes, Thelma Miller, and Fred Ziker for their tireless efforts on behalf of Montgomery County United Way.

Patti Mennes served as the chair of the Leadership Committee during the 2012

campaign year. Prior to that, Patti was responsible for communications and mar-keting for Bentwater United Way.

Thelma Miller served on the residen-tial campaign subcommittee and spent countless hours gathering, coordinating, and updating addresses of Bentwater residents for the annual fundraiser and kickoff event for United Way.

Fred Ziker served on the corporate campaign subcommittee that sponsors a health fair for Bentwater employees.

Their selfless contributions have greatly benefitted the United Way.

MCUW welcomes new Leadership Committee members: Robert Miner, Bill Lindsey, and Stephen Hann, and Wanda Begnaud (not available for photo).

Officials at Bridgewood Farms report they sold more than 2,200 holiday poin-settias – their entire allotment for the year – in only 10 days. MCUW spent many long hours potting the plants and

Bill and Susan Thacker enjoying the gondola voyage. “It was very interesting,” said Susan. “It winds through a network of small canals just west of the Piazza San Marco.

a tour of italy with omega travelTravelBentwater residents Bill and Susan Thacker recently traveled to Italy with a group of friends for an amazing adventure, lead by the talented team of Omega Travel.

The specially designed vacation took travelers to all of the noted sights, includ-ing The Duomo and the Canal Grande, as well as to wineries, unique shops and decadent restaurants.

“Bev and Ed Robb are great hosts and fun to travel with. Both are very person-able and have visited the Mediterranean and The Holy Land many times and know all the ‘ins and outs.’ We are plan-ning to go to The Holy Land with Ome-ga in 2014,” added the Thackers.

The Thackers were pleased to share with us photos of their recent journey.

Before heading up the coast to Cinque Terre, they stopped at Portovenere, and old fortified town which is now a popular vacation spot for Italians.

The Ponte Vecchio, the oldest surviving bridge in Florence, is filled with jewelry shops, some expensive, some very expensive.

The vineyards and winery at Fontana Candida. They offer a leisurely wine tasting in an old villa at the winery.

The western section of Pompeii, which is only about one third of the total town size, has been most extensively uncovered. “It contains the most interesting ruins,” said the Thackers.

The village above Lake Albano, a volcanic lake. There are many vacation homes and resorts near this quaint village.

The Canal Grande, which is the “main street” of Venice at dusk.

Florence, in the heart of Tuscany, viewed from an overlook south of the city above Flume Arno. The tower to the left is the bell tower at the Palazzo Vecchio. The large dome is the Duomo, Florence’s most noted attraction.

“Omega Travel met the test - things went very smoothly and the accommodations were first rate. Local guides were experi-enced and very knowledgeable. We saw the main sights on our trip from Rome to Venice, plus we enjoyed several side trips to locations where we were the only group there,” said Bill Thacker.
