friendsAntiqueThe Antique Friends are enjoying the cooler tem-peratures as they hunt for new treasures and meet up with friends. Cathy Wilson recently planned a fabulous trip to Tomball. Participants called the beautiful weather

a gift from heaven. The first stop was at Granny’s Corner where they were welcomed with homemade cookies and punch and a chance to shop. After visiting several more shops in the area, everyone met at the beautiful Whistle Stop Tea Room. The food was exceptional. They refueled their bodies and then, you guessed it, took advantage of another chance to browse - always hoping to find that special treasure.

BLOBentwaterLadies Organization

Bentwater Ladies Organization is winding down our activities for the year. We have had a busy couple of months. In October we took two busloads of ladies to the Coushatta Casino and Resort for some golf and gam-bling. Many of the ladies came back lighter in the pocketbooks, but all had a great time. In November we hosted several shopping events, including a bus trip to one of the premier holiday markets in Texas - The Nutcracker Market. We also had our very own shop till you drop event, Bric-A-Brac at the Country Club.

December activities start early this month with the always popular Christ-mas Dinner Dance on Friday and Saturday evenings, November 30 and December 1, where we will be treated to a white winter wonderland. The dance and menu are the same both evenings, so get together a group and fill a table of eight. The ladies tell me there are a

couple of surprises in store for the eve-ning. We hope to see you all there. The event is black tie optional.

And to really get you in the mood for the holidays, plan to attend the Annual Holiday Home Tour, our biggest char-ity fundraiser of the year. Six Bentwater homeowners open their homes to the public for two nights, December 4 and 5. The money from ticket sales goes to the charity of choice for each homeowner. Tickets will be on sale for this very popu-lar event at the Country Club beginning on November 1 for $15.00. Tickets pur-chased at the door the night of the tour will be $20.00. This year’s homes offer a cross section of styles and locations. We would like to thank the Sewell, Whorton,

Chiste, Luquette, Koerner and Ciarami-taro families for graciously opening their homes for us this year.

Bentwater Ladies Organization will end the year on December 13 at the Decem-ber luncheon. The officers for 2013 will be installed and we will celebrate with a musical program presented by Bentwa-ter’s own Amen Chorus. Don’t forget to sign up for this luncheon on the Bentwa-ter Club website.

Bentwater Ladies Organization wishes everyone in Bentwater happy holidays and a happy New Year, and we hope to see you in January at the first Bentwater Ladies Organization luncheon of 2013 on Thursday, January 10 at 11:30.

Bric-A-Bracm a r k e tThe Bentwater Ladies Organization presented its annual Bric-A-Brac market recently. The amazing shopping extravaganza was held at the Yacht Club. Shoppers found a variety of holiday items and unique gifts as they browsed the booths set up by numerous vendors. Bentwater residents quickly learned there was no need to leave the front gates to satisfy all their holiday shopping needs.

Live Lake Conroe is inviting all Bent-water boat owners to turn their vessels into festive holiday floats and cruise Lake Conroe in the organization’s first ever Christmas Boat Parade of Lights.

The event, which will take place on December 15, is not only a way to spread fun holiday cheer but an opportunity to give back to the less fortunate in Mont-gomery County.

There is not an entry fee to take part in the parade but Live Lake Conroe is asking all parade participants to donate a new, unwrapped gift appropriate for a child between the ages of 3 and 12. There are also sponsorship opportuni-ties available, with 50 percent of the money

raised going to youth based charities in Montgomery County.

The Christmas Boat Parade of Lights will start at the Bentwater Yacht Club and wrap up at Water Point Marina where Santa will step off his boat and visit with children.

If you are interested in taking part in the parade and helping Live Lake Conroe start a new holiday tradition, visit livelakeconroe.com or contact Janet Chavez at [email protected].

Come January they start the weekly migration from all parts Bentwater to Lake Bluff Street. If you’re watching, you’ll see them. Car after car, sometimes 30 on the move as they make their way each Monday and Thursday evening to the home of director, Keith Ann Gearn. Who are they? They’re your neigh-bors and friends. They come together to make great music after six dedicated weeks of practice.

Bentwater City Limits will light up the Yacht Club February 21, 22 and 23.

The Texas Forest Service blames the drought of 2011 for kill-ing as many as 500 million trees in Texas. While 300 million of these dead trees were found in rural areas, the remainder, nearly 200 million, were found in cities and residential communities across the state. Thousands of trees right here in Bentwater are among those that are continuing to be victims of the extreme heat and lack of rainfall.

The POA is doing what it can to identify these trees, so we can notify property owners. The process of locating these trees and documenting them is a tedious and time consuming task. Once we notify property owners, they are responsible for having the trees removed. We ask that homeowners be patient through-out this process and lend a hand if possible. If you can spare an hour or so of your time, please feel free to contact us. We appreciate any help, as it is our goal to keep Bentwater beautiful.

Before you plan on giving your home a facelift, keep in mind any and all changes to the exterior appearance of your home must be approved by the Bentwater Architectural Control Committee. This includes simple improvements such as painting or staining on your home, as well as major remodeling projects or putting up new structures on your property.

Once you have construction plans and specifications for the desired upgrades, the plans must be presented to the ACC, which will respond in writing to your request based on building guidelines in Bentwater.

If you have any questions concerning exterior upgrades, please contactthePOAofficeat936-597-5532.

Exterioru p g r a d e s Sixteen year-old Kaylee Real, daughter of Bentwater residents Willard and Kim Real, is not your typical teenager. She dedi-cates her time to mission trips where she teaches others about God. “Kaylee has an amazing heart for the Lord and serving others. I could go on and on about how much of a servant she is; she inspires me every day,” said her mother, Kim Real.

For the past few years Kaylee has gone on several mission trips with her church and has been gone weeks at a time. She has spent many long days on Skid Row in Los Angeles, preaching and praying with adults.

Kaylee has the opportunity to go to Honduras this next sum-mer, if she can raise the needed $2,000 it will take to make the trip. This will be the first trip she has taken out of the country and she is excited to have the opportunity to spread God’s word to the children in Honduras.

garden clubThe Bentwater Garden Club recently travelled to Magnolia to tour the amaz-ing Calendar Garden. Tiffany Breed opened Calendar Garden 18 months ago on property that was a former min-iature horse farm. Breed conserved as much of the previous property as possi-ble, using some of the old fence to make picnic and display tables. Other original structures were painted to enhance the gardens and now house storage and sales items. A Christmas mural includ-ing Breed’s four children was painted on a structure near the entrance of the gardens, with a sunflower painted on the opposite side.

Breed showed the group the display garden, starting at what she calls the Kitchen Garden. That’s where Garden Club members saw a 20 foot loofah vine. Breed pulled a very ripe

cucumber- zucchini like growth from the vine. She proceeded to strip the growth as you would a banana to produce a loofah sponge. What a surprise to the group of gardeners!

Garden Club members toured the East-WestTexasGardennextwhereabeautiful passion flower was growing at the entrance. Most of the plants in this garden are native to our area of Texas and will grow well.

The Rose Garden entrance was a cedar fence made from a fallen tree on the property. In this garden, Breed’s son built wooden tepee structures to display some of the climbing roses.

Near the Rose Garden, Breed showed the guests a pond where a future water garden will be built.

The nursery also has seven acres set aside for Christmas trees and a pumpkin patch, which was ablaze with pumpkins and yard art. The crew at Calendar Gar-den was working on building a hay bale maze to be included with several other games available for children to play.

The tour wrapped up with a trip to the pavilion named Blacksmith to discuss fall bloomers and perennials.

Sharon Corzine, Mary Lou Leisure, Lynn Guilbault and Barb Michaels won door prizes. Then the ladies went to the Montgomery County Grill for lunch. This restaurant is in a restored yellow house and has excellent food.

If you are interested in the Garden Club, please contact Phillis Podlipny at 936-597-5797.

MessageGeneral Manager'sDear Property Owner:

During the holiday season, we are reminded of the importance of offering goodwill to others. We hear the jingles of bell ringers outside our favorite retail stores and we drop our spare change in a kettle. We buy a gift for a less fortunate

child and bring food to the Montgomery County Food Bank. This time of year, it is easy to see the warmth, peace, and gener-osity of others.

As we do good deeds for the less fortunate this holiday season, let’s not forget to do the same for one another here in Bentwa-ter. One specific area that we can impact in our Bentwater com-munity is our association and relationship with our neighbors. Our schedules have become so hectic that we may not have been able to take the opportunity to get to know those who live near us. There’s no time better than now to extend the spirit of goodwill to your neighbors, and a small gesture goes a long way.

• Waveorsayhelloinpassing• Introduceyourself• Reachoutandofferassistancewithdifferentneeds(Help

with trash/recycling bins, keep an eye on their house while they are away)

• Shareaplateoffamilyfavoritecookiesorcandies

You can even invite your neighbors to help out in the commu-nity. Instead of dropping off food at the Montgomery County Food Bank or in the POA collection box, get a group together and volunteer sorting food and stocking shelves at the food bank. Instead of just dropping change in a Salvation Army Kettle, grab a bell and start ringing. There are plenty of bells and kettles to go around. Here’s what you need to know:

ADOPT-A-KETTLEMONTGOMERYCOUNTYSALVATIONARMYHelp the hungry, homeless and less fortunate.Sign up to be a bell ringer this Christmas season.

The Red Kettles of the Salvation Army that ring in the Christmas season are instantly recognized as their presence continues to help provide meals, toys and gifts across the Montgomery County area.

The Salvation Army’s emergency shelter in Conroe is the only facility in the area that provides temporary, emergency housing for men, women and families.

The Montgomery County Salvation Army will have their Red Kettles in place from late November through December 24 at many local stores. Bell Ringers will be ringing from 11 a.m. to 7p.m.,butneveronSunday.Formoreinformationaboutvol-unteering,call936-714-1344.

The Salvation Army is also in need of volunteers to help orga-nize Angel Tree gifts for less fortunate families. It will take several weeks to organize all of the gifts that have been donated. Please call the number above if you can help.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS! If you are traveling during the season, come home safely.

Four-year-old Jaeger is quite an amazing young Bentwater resi-dent! Some of his favorite things include playing in the park, participatinginsportsandgymnastics,EspritInternationalSchool in The Woodlands where he started their Pre-K program this fall, chocolate milk, and last but not least, his Mommy (Dad too- he likes to help build things with his own tools).

Jaeger loves Bentwater, the Country Club for dining (he likes to check with the staff for carrot cake muffins – mommy’s favorite), and definitely the Sports Club Pool, especially when ordering up a chicken quesadilla and ice cream, delivered pool-side.

He’s been hitting golf balls with a putter since he was 2 years old, and can already sink putts from ten feet! He just received his first set of real, right-sized, stainless steel clubs. He’s also been giving tennis a try, and is excited about the new courts.

Please help us by ensuring there is an installed and properly working ornamental light at your residence. The ornamental light not only brightens our neighborhood but it also helps emergency personnel find you.

The Bentwater deed restrictions state:

“At the time a residence is built on any Lot, the Owner, at Owner’s sole cost and expense, shall cause an ornamental light fixture mounted on a pole, as approved by the (Architectural Control Committee) Committee, to be located on the Lot at a location approved by the Committee. The ornamental light pole shall be connected to the resi-dence’s electrical system and shall have a photo cell so the light is on during the hours of darkness.”

Montgomery CountyFOOD BANK

The Montgomery County Food Bank is on a mission to end hunger in Montgomery County. The Food Bank collects and distributes more than six million pounds of food each year to low-income children, adults and seniors living in Montgomery County and serves an average of 37,000 people each month.

One way you can help fight hunger is by donating non perish-able food items to the food bank this holiday season. The POA office is an official Montgomery County Food Bank collection site, so feel free to stop buy, drop off food and allow the POA staff to deliver the food from there.

You can also make your food or monetary donations during the foodbank’sannualholidayfooddriveonDecember7.From7a.m.until6p.m.youcandriveuptotheentranceoftheMont-

gomery County Courthouse in downtown Conroe and hand off the much needed food or money.

ABC Channel 13 will be broadcasting live during the food drive.

If you would like to help with this event or volunteer sort-ing food and stocking shelves at the food bank, contact Vince Rodriguezat936-539-6686,orgoonlineatmcfoodbank.organd click on the link that states “click here to volunteer.”

Any help you can offer will be appreciated and make a difference in the lives of our less fortunate neighbors this holiday season.

Do you SUFFER from PAINFULLHEADACHES????

TMJ or the temporomandibular joint, may be the ultimate cause of your never ending, distressing

headaches. With a complete TMJ exam from Dr. Jess N. Legg, III, we will be able to get you one step

closer to a headache free life!

TMJ stands for “temporomandibular joint,” or jaw joint. These are the small joints in front of each ear that

attach the lower jaw to the skull, and happen to be the most complex joints in the entire body. The area of the face where the TMJ is located is an intricate network of bones, including the teeth, muscles, and nerves. Because of this, TMJ (dysfunction) conditions affect many areas of the body, from the top of the head in migraine-like

headaches to numbness or tingling in the arms and pain in the neck or shoulders.

Picnicin the parkIf you didn’t make it out to Picnic in the Park, take a look at what you missed. The smell of a barbecue dinner drew a crowd to the Park in the Meadows where residents got the chance to relax and visit with their neighbors. There were games for all ages. While the kids enjoyed the moonwalk and face painting, the adults tossed some horseshoes and played “backyard golf.” Many lucky residents even walked away with door prizes, such as Bentwater gift basket.

Montgomery County Animal Control Office does not wish to speak to a third party, only you, the resident who has seen the animal and has all the first-hand information.

As for our own pets, here is a friendly reminder:

The Bentwater Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions state, in part:

“No animals, livestock bees or poultry of any kind shall be raised, bred or kept on any Lot except that dogs, cats or other common household pets may be kept provided that they are not kept, bred or maintained for commercial purposes and do not become a nuisance or threat to other Owners. No more than two (2) of each type of animal shall be kept as household pets. No Owner shall permit any dog, cat or other domestic pet under his ownership or control to leave such Owner’s Lot unless leashed and accompanied by a member of such Owner’s house-hold.”

As well as the recorded Animal Control Policy, which states in part:

“No owner shall permit any dog, cat or other domestic pet under his ownership or control to be left unattended outside on such owner’s lot or allow such animal to engage in loud howling or barking, crying or whining or to conduct itself in such a man-ner so as to disturb the comfort and repose of any person inside the subdivision. Such pets must be housed inside the residence during the period of time the owner or person responsible for such pet is absent.”

And the Montgomery County “leash law,” also states:

“All dogs and cats shall be kept under restraint, as defined by the following definition:

Restraint means the control of an animal under any of the fol-lowing circumstances:

• Whenitiscontrolledbyalead,lineorleashthatissecuredtoa secure object or held by a person who is capable of control-ling and governing the animal in question;

• Whenitiswithinafullyenclosedvehicle;• Whenitisonthepremisesoftheownerand/orcustodian;• Whenitisrestrainedsecurelywithinanenclosureorfence;or• Whenitisunderthephysicalcontroloftheownerorcustodian

The owner or custodian of every dog or cat shall be held respon-sible for the behavior of his animal and, thereby, responsible for any violation of these rules.”

We thank you for keeping each of these rules and procedures in mind as you care for your special pets.

His parents, Bentwater residents Georgia and Jim Jacob, stated he was a happy and loving son who idolized his family. Brian, Georgia and Jim spent six week together in Colorado this past summer fly-fishing and jeeping in the mountains. They said it was one of the best times they ever had. Georgia and Jim wanted their friends to know that they are blessed with loving friends and family, and they are blessed in knowing Brian, a loving and loyal man. One of their recent moments with him was in a Nerf machine gun fight. They said they always had a fun time with him and it lasted until the end.

UNITED WAYBENTWATER’S MONTGOMERY COUNTY UNITED WAY COMMITTEEIT’S TIME TO SHOW YOU CARE! By Bentwater resident Mary Miller

GIVEBentwater’s Montgomery County United Way (MCUW) lead-ers have been involved with a number of community events this fall including two campaign kickoff receptions at the homes of Rob and Debby Capps and Greg and Lynn Hullinger. A special thanks to Mary Ann Belin who gave the campaign a boost with a$7500contribution.

It’s time to show you care! By now you should have received an invitation to support Bentwater’s 2012 United Way campaign. The leadership committee increased Bentwater’s goal this year to$147,000.Pleasehelpusreachourgoal.

All donations to MCUW stay in Montgomery County and are used to help people and organizations in our county. “Your pledge

helpsMontgomeryCountyUnitedWayservemorethan60com-munity programs, such as The Friendship Center, Women’s Center, ConroeFamilyYMCAandMontgomeryCountyEmergencyAssistance,” MCUW Committee Chairman Patti Mennes stated.

For those of you eligible to receive corporate matching gifts or who donate directly through an employer or former employer, be sure to specify code 410 on your pledge card or matching gift request. That will insure that your money is used only in Mont-gomery County. If you need a pledge card, go to Montgomery County United Way’s website, www.mcuw.org and click on the Give icon at the top of the page. While visiting the website be sure to click on the Bentwater Cares icon for news about Bent-water’s United Way activities.

Bentwater, keep up the good work!

Volunteers spend three days at Bridgewood Farms.

Bentwater United Way volunteers prepare Poinsettia plants at Bridgewood Farms. Now watch the thermometer rise and look for new messages every week. (A special thanks to committee member Michael Crook for the witty and colorful messages.) Let’s make the thermometer explode and show how much we care!

SERVECommittee member Stan Hemmeline organized another Days of Caring project at Bridgewood Farms. Bridgewood Farms is located just east of Willis and serves the needs of mentally challenged individuals. Bentwater United Way also sponsored a Days of Caring project at Bridgewood Farms last year.

This year, Bentwater volunteers spent three days on the Days of Caring project. First a Bentwater team did preparation work; the ladies in the group cleaned and organized irrigation sys-tem hoses while the men cleaned and leveled the floors of the two green houses. On another day, Bentwater team members

unloaded Poinsettias so they would be ready for potting. On the “official” day of caring, Bentwater volunteers worked with residents to prepare ceramics and pot poinsettias for Bridge-wood’s annual fundraiser.

“Bridgewood Farms was once again extremely thankful for our assistance,” stated Stan Hemmeline.

CELEBRATE Two time award winning chef Patrick O’Neil prepared his famous chili at the Bentwater Chili for Charity Cook-Off. “There was good chili to taste from several cooks; all the teams supported a charity; the silent auction presented great offerings and the band was terrific. It was a lot of fun,” O’Neil stated.

Please give, serve and celebrate with us. Thank you from the Bentwater United Way Leadership committee.
