ST. EULALIA PARISH SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 24, 2020
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Eulalia Parish,
Christ is risen Alleluia! We are now in the beginning phase of open-
ing the State of Massachusetts. It was a bit of a surprise to officials in
the Archdiocese of Boston that churches were included in Phase One.
The expectation was that we would be in Phase Two or Three. There
are some people, a minority I trust, that expect that as we open we
will be in full operation. Not so. This is a slow process and patience
is needed. Just as shopping in the grocery store is a different experi-
ence, participating at Mass will also be quite different. There are
many criteria that we have to meet and protocols that have to be in
place before limited public Masses begin. Our plan is to begin with a
4:00p.m. Mass on Saturday, June 6, and a 10:00a.m. Mass on Sunday,
June 7. There will be more up-to-date information during the live
streaming chat that will follow the 10:00a.m. live streaming Mass on
this Sunday, May 24. For the present time please understand that be-
cause of social distancing there will be only 54 places available in the
church building. Information will be forthcoming on how you can sign up to come to a Mass. You will have to bring
a mask with you and if possible hand sanitizer. Greeters will guide you to an available seat. Missalettes and hymnals
will not be in the pews because the virus can remain on them. There will be no congregational singing. Those receiv-
ing communion will be guided row by row, keeping at least six feet between each person. Communion will be in the
hand. At the end of Mass the congregation will leave the church row by row keeping social distancing. After Mass the
church building and rest rooms have to be sanitized. Our Governor, our Cardinal, and also the Mayor of Boston are all
urging that those 65 and over, those will serious health issues, and those with respiratory problems continue to remain
at home and view Masses and worship services on social media. I have confidence in your patience and understanding
as we work together to begin again to place the Lord’s Day celebration of the Eucharist at the center of our week and
of our lives. A peaceful Easter Season to each of you, Father John
After Mass Chat: On this Sunday, Mary 24, following our live streaming Mass Father John will be available on
line for questions and comments. You may ask questions or make a comment through Facebook or by e-mail.
The setting will be in the main entrance area of the church where the priest usually greets you after Mass.
Covid 19: We now have a team of priests within the Archdiocese who are trained and prepared to bring the Sacra-
ment of the Sick to persons suffering from the Corona Virus in hospitals, nursing homes, and other institutions.
The way to contact one of these priests is through the local parish. Here at Saint Eulalia you would contact at
any time Fr. John at 781-369-5244 or the Parish Office at 781-369-5715. Also, keep in mind that there are
some institutions that will still not allow a priest access to the patient.
Pentecost: On next Sunday, May 31, the Easter Season concludes with the Feast of Pentecost, the Feast of the
Holy Spirit. To prepare for the Feast Father John will give a presentation on the Person and Work of the Holy
Spirit. It will be live streamed on the parish website and also on Facebook on this Monday evening, May 25
at 7:00p.m.
Living Life in the Spirit: Renewal Ministries is making available an excellent series of presentations on coming
into a personal relationship with Jesus and experiencing the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. Here is the
link: Renewal Ministries
Keep Nourishing Your Faith: Even though Masses are cancelled at present, keep nourishing your faith. Pray:
pray as a family; pray the Rosary; pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Read the scriptures. Watch the Mass on
TV, and pray a prayer of Spiritual Communion asking Jesus to come to you spiritually since you cannot now
receive the Eucharist.

John 14:18 I will not leave you orphans, says the Lord. I will come back to you, and your hearts will rejoice. SACRAMENTS OF RECONCILIATION, BAP-
TISM, AND SACRAMENT OF THE SICK
Reconciliation—While there are presently no sched-
uled regular times for confession, this important sacra-
ment is available by request. Simply call the parish and
leave a message for Father John (781-729-8220 ext. 24
or 781-369-5244). Just a phone number will suffice and
a message that you are calling about confession. Father
John will get back to you to set up a convenient time.
Baptism—Also, the Sacrament of Baptism is still avail-
able for any child who is in need. Due to the safety
guidelines, it would be a private Baptism limited to ten
people including the priest and the child. For more in-
formation, please call Louise at the office.
Sacrament of the Sick—We now have a team of priests
within the Archdiocese who are trained and prepared to
bring the Sacrament of the Sick to persons suffering
from the Corona Virus in hospitals, nursing homes, and
other institutions. The way to contact one of these
priests is through the local parish. Here at Saint Eulalia
you would contact at any time Fr. John at 781-369-5244
or the Parish Office at 781-369-5715. Also, keep in
mind that there are some institutions that will still not
allow a priest access to the patient.
CHAT AFTER MASS!
Continuing this Sunday after the 10:00 am Mass, Fr John will
be available via live stream on our Facebook page and our
website. Please join us on one of these platforms to say ‘Hi!’
or to ask Fr John a question. You can ask on the Facebook
page or via the
‘Let’s Chat’ form on our website.
We hope to see you there!
By Dr. Scott Hahn Knowing God Seventh Sunday of Easter (Cycle A) Jesus has been taken up into heaven as we begin today's First Reading. His disciples - including the Apostles and Mary - return to the upper room where He celebrated the Last Supper (see Luke 22:12). There, they devote themselves with one accord to prayer, awaiting the Spirit that He promised would come upon them (see Acts 1:8). The unity of the early Church at Jerusalem is a sign of the oneness that Christ prays for in today's Gos-pel. The Church is to be a communion on earth that mirrors the glorious union of Father, Son and Spirit in the Trinity. Jesus has proclaimed God's name to His brethren (see Hebrews 2:12; Psalm 22:23). The prophets had foretold this revelation - a new covenant by which all flesh would have knowledge of the Lord (see Jer-emiah 31:33-34; Habakkuk 2:14). By the new covenant made in His blood and remembered in every Eucharist, we know God as our Fa-ther. This is the eternal life Jesus promises. And this is the light and salvation we sing of in today's Psalm. As God made light to shine out of darkness when the world began, He has enlightened us in Baptism, making us new creations (see 2 Corinthians 5:17), giving us knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ (see Hebrews 10:32; 2 Corinthians 4:6). Our new life is a gift of "the Spirit of glory," we hear in today's Epistle (see John 7:38-39). Made one in His name, we are given a new name - "Christians" - a name used only here and in two other places in the Bible (see Acts 11:16; 26:28). We are to glorify God, though we will be insulted and suffer because of this name. But as we share in His sufferings, we know we will overcome (see Revelation 3:12) and rejoice when His glory is once more revealed. And we will dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of our lives.
THE UNBROKEN WORD…………………………………...……….BY MICHAEL CUNNINGHAM
We often hear the words it’s the journey, not the destination, which can provide solace to some but can
also create a feeling of desolation and abandonment. When we find our circumstances changing and, even
when we set the direction in motion, it does not turn out the way we want.
At the time of this pandemic, many find themselves somewhere they did not expect. Separated from oth-
ers, loss of income, loneliness, even feelings of helplessness can be overwhelming. At the same time, we
see the incredible outreach occurring. Generosity beyond expectations, sacrifice for those in caring roles.
The juxtaposition of these scenes litters our daily lives.
So what is this all about? Our internal reactions to dealing with the uncontrollable and the unexpected are
tested to the limit. Sometimes it is our observation of how others are dealing with the changes in their
lives.
The knowledge of God’s presence in all of this can be our only reassurance in these matters. It is a time
when we need to not just trust, but to embrace the love which comes from knowing God is within, and al-
ways with us. (Matthew 28:20).
This week we can perhaps have empathy for those who do not have faith in God, but are relying on them-selves and those around them (you perhaps) to give them the certitude that things will work themselves
out. And you become that loving embrace so many are seeking at this time; through your Christian re-sponse to their needs and difficulties.
