HANDWRITING

In Years 3 and 4, children should:

Continue to develop their joined-up handwriting.

Increase the legibility, consistency and quality of

their handwriting – for example, ensuring that

down strokes of letters are straight and parallel,

not sloping.

The National Curriculum- ‘fluent,

legible and, eventually, speedy

handwriting’

To gain a pen licence children

need to show consistently

legible, joined handwriting of

consistent size.

WHAT ARE WE DOING THIS TERM?

HOMEWORK

TOPIC SPELLINGS

These are the spellings that your child

will be working on this term. There are 8

spellings that need to be learned each

week for a spelling test on a Tuesday.

Some of these words follow a spelling

rule and some are part of the statutory

spelling words for year 3 and 4. Each

week there are extra challenge words

that follow the spelling pattern and can

be learned if you wish!

READING

Each day we have Book Club after play. This is a designated 15 mins for

reading. Some days I will read our class book, other days we listen to an

audio book or hear individual readers and sometimes we will go to the

library.

We also have seperate sessions dedicated to reading comprehension skills.

Our Book Club Bear sits with a

chosen child to read. I select

someone who has impressed me

by reading a lot at home or by

being an enthusiastic reader.
