The evening was peppered with lively banter and mirth.

grain-fed cattle tastes better. Grain-fed characteristics include being fattier and with more tender meat. More importantly, the steaks tend to be buttery and tastier.

Nonetheless, some prefer what they feel is a leaner, fuller flavour of grass-fed steak, though it tends to be less tender.

a Cut above the rest? Many now know that steak cuts are primarily divided into two categories: prime and secondary cuts.

Bistecca’s signature T-bone Fiorentina, prized for its rich flavour, was pit against a “rising star”, the hanging tenderloin.

Based on the debates and responses, it seems that it is not so clear which the best steak is. What is clear is that everyone loves a good steak, at least according to their preferred choice of steak.

FASHIONHere are some stirrings in tHe fasHion world tHat you would want, need, and love to know about

The OuTneT is a fashion outlet store that sells branded and luxury items online at a discounted price. With the same brains

eve tHomas, styling director of online fasHion outlet store tHe outnet, gives us a few tips on picking tHe best sunglasses

7Questions withEve Thomas

behind successful luxury shopping website Net-A-Porter, the website carries brands such as Anya Hindmarch (the creator of the “I Am Not A Plastic Bag” totes), bandage dress extraordinaire Herve Leger, DKNY as well as Stella McCartney, to name a few.

Recently, The Outnet has added

luxury eyewear to its range. We speak to Eve Thomas, the styling director of The Outnet, for tips for framing your face with the right pair of sunglasses.

What should one look for in a good pair of sunglasses?Quality is a must. Designer

sunglasses will have UV protective lenses – so I’d always advise investing in these.

hoW should you pick a frame to suit your face shape?I find it’s best to

choose a frame that’s the opposite of your face shape. So, if you have a round face, look for square frames; if you have a square jawline, opt for round. Small face shapes should avoid anything too oversized. Heart-shaped faces look great in cat-eye sunglasses.

hoW can you differentiate betWeen male sunglasses and female?Nowadays, a lot of styles are unisex. For instance, Ray Ban

Wayfarers work just as well on men as they do women. Filigree details, fun shapes and more catwalk styles are designed more with women in mind.

What is the one pair of sunglasses you should oWn for all occasions? Aviator shades. They are classic, trans-seasonal and they work just as well for women as they do men. Whether you opt for metal frames or dark tortoise shell, they are sure to lend a cool, relaxed and pared-back look to your outfit.

What is the biggest mistake people make? A common mistake is when people buy trend-led styles that aren’t necessarily right for their face shape. A good pair of sunglasses should flatter you and complete your look.

can you spot any upcoming trends for sunglasses? The ‘60s oversized shape was key for Spring/Summer, as seen at Moschino and Jonathan Saunders. The futuristic cat eye at Erdem was notable for Autumn/Winter.

ice cream cocktails that integrate the Chocolat Fondant and Crème Brulee ice cream flavours. They will be available at Tippling Club until the end of August.

The concept of encasing a molten sauce within a cup of rich ice cream is the first of its kind. The Chocolat Fondant ice cream takes on the texture of a chocolate cake, sprinkled with generous bits of brownies and with a warm, fluid chocolate core.

To replicate the experience of biting into a crème brulee, crunchy caramelised sugar bits are incorporated into the creamy custard of the Crème Brulee ice cream, which conceals lush caramel sauce at its core.

For all the western dishes, I always make sure to incorporate some spices such as cumin, coriander, mustard seeds, curry leaves and turmeric.

Carb lovers, you aren’t forgotten. Try their Pasta Amatriciana ($9.50), which is spaghetti tossed in tomato-based sauce with bacon, chilli and basil.

They also serve a large array of sandwiches such as the Classic BLT Reworked ($8) and a vegetarian-friendly Grilled Aubergines Sandwich ($8).

The Muscat Clairette, which recently took the silver medal at the 2012 International Wine and Spirit Competition, complements slightly sweeter sauces such as teriyaki and oyster. It has hints of rose and lychee with a citrus aroma.

The Sémillon goes well with more savoury marinades. A winner of the bronze medal at

Unsightly cablEs arE often a bane for home owners who want a neat home. Due to the ease of connection, as well as the fact that Wi-Fi comes without the clutter of computer cables, Wi-Fi has been adopted by most people and is now widely used in most homes.

Wireless easeWi-Fi is a technology that uses radio waves to allow electronic devices to exchange data or connect to the internet wirelessly. You can use any device – be it a personal computer, digital camera, smart phone, or video game console – to connect to the internet using a wireless network access point as long as it supports Wi-Fi.

With the high adoption rate of Wi-Fi, Canon has also incorporated this technology in its sleek, stylish PiXMa printers, which allows you to connect to networks, and links up with your devices so that you can enjoy the convenience of direct printing.

Wireless Web to PrintNow that Wi-Fi convenience has come to cameras and printers, there are lots of printer projects you can embark on to preserve your favourite memories.

For example, instead of just posting a photo real-time on Facebook to share with your friends what you are

up to, you can print your photos directly from Facebook or Picasa using Canon PiXMa printers, as long as you have a wireless LaN connection.

Multi-function sorting & Printingall you need to do is link your smart phone and tablet to the PiXMa printer, and you can print and scan to your heart’s content. airPrint allows you to wirelessly print just about anything without the need to install device drivers.

They also come with the functions of photo sorting, directly printing photos without needing a computer, and making photo collages with added background patterns and photo effects. Choose from an extensive variety of templates and print personalised stationery, calendars, envelopes

and gift cards. canon easy-PhotoPrint The Canon easy-PhotoPrint for Mobile Devices enables wireless photo printing from your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad or supported android devices to a compatible Canon PiXMa printer via wireless network with a few taps. it is ideal for consumers looking to print and share their photos.

“We want people to be taken by the spectacle and the sound and fury,” del Toro says, “but it is all meant to illuminate the courage of the central characters. Physically, the human beings are the smallest thing in the movie, but their spirit is the largest thing. They show you

He’s retrofitted his lab to become a jam and jelly factory... If he makes the decision to leave that behind because it’s best for his family, how does he feel about that and what should he do next?”

HEALTH & BEAUTY

In healthy joints, the synovial membrane is thin, the cartilage that covers the bones is smooth and a thin

layer of synovial fluid covers bone surfaces. A problem in any of these areas can result in arthritis.

Arthritis may appear suddenly or come on gradually. Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system inaccurately identifies the synovial membrane as “foreign”.

WHAT IS RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS?Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder that typically affects the small joints in your hands and feet. Unlike the wear-and-tear damage of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis affects the lining of your joints, causing a swelling that eventually results in bone erosion and joint deformity.

The signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis vary in severity and may even come and go. Periods of increased disease activity, referred to as “flares” alternate with periods of relative remission. Over time, rheumatoid arthritis can cause joints to deform and shift out of place.

CAUSES AND DIAGNOSISYour immune system mistakenly attacks your own body’s tissues. This is more common in women than in men and occurs generally between the ages of 40 and 60 years old. The resulting inflammation thickens the synovial fluid which invades and

&joinTsdamages cartilage and bone in the joint. The tendons and ligaments will weaken and stretch after, and the joint will lose its alignment.

Rheumatoid arthritis is difficult to diagnose in its early stages because the signs mimic other diseases, but it can be diagnosed with blood tests. People with rheumatoid arthritis tend to have an elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, which shows an inflammatory process in the body. The blood tests also look for a rheumatoid factor and an anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibody.

TREATMENT OPTIONS There is no cure for rheumatoid arthritis. Medications can reduce inflammation in joints to help ease the pain and to prevent or slow joint damage. Occupational and physical therapy can also help with protecting your joints.

Several drugs used to treat this have potentially serious side effects. Doctors typically prescribe the safer ones but you may need stronger or a combination of drugs as the disease progresses. Surgery may be necessary in extreme cases.

DIET AND SUPPLEMENTS Gentle exercise can strengthen the muscles around your joints and it helps to fend off fatigue. Check with your doctor before you start exercising. Avoid exercising tender, injured or inflamed joints. Applying a heat pack can also help to relax painful muscles.

Some preliminary studies have shown that consuming fish

oil may help reduce pain and stiffness. Get Holland & Barrett’s Omega-3 Fatty Acids to help increase the production and activity of anti-inflammatory prostaglandins.

Glucosamine supplementation is beneficial to rheumatoid arthritis as the disease often leads to the destruction of articular cartilage of the joints and glucosamine is necessary for joint cartilage synthesis and repair. Glucosamine also reduces inflammation and relieves pain in people with rheumatoid arthritis.

Chondroitin supplementation can protect existing cartilage from premature degeneration by blocking certain enzymes that destroy cartilage and prevent nutrients from being transported to the cartilage for repair.

Methylsulphonylmethane or MSM is a naturally occurring sulphur compound, and MSM supplementation can help to reduce inflammation in joints and promotes tissue repair.

Supplements containing glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM have been shown to reduce cartilage damage and anti-CCP2, a rheumatic marker.
