KNOCK CANCERThe 11th annual Team Shan Knock Cancer Out of the

Park mixed slo-pitch tournament runs July 15-17 at Algon-quin Regiment Memorial Beach Park and neighbouring ball fi elds, if necessary. The headquarters and majority of games will be hosted at Algonquin Beach Park diamonds.

The Knock Cancer tournament has raised over $50,000 during its tenure for Team Shan.

The breast cancer awareness program is named after Shanna Larsen, a former Haileybury resident who died as the result of the disease in 2005 at the age of 24.

The program drives home the message, through aware-ness campaigns and educational materials, that breast cancer is “not just a disease of older women.”

“The Lions Club - New Liskeard will be providing a beer garden area and the Haileybury Figure Skating Club will be manning a barbecue stand, both at Algonquin Beach Park, so there will be plenty to see, eat and drink for participants and spectators alike,” said organizer James T. Paterson.

“Everyone is more than welcome. In addition, the North Cobalt Flea Market has graciously donated Blue Jays game tickets and a barbecue for our annual raffl e. So there’s also something for everyone to possibly win.”WHITE BEAR CHALLENGES

On Saturday, July 16, in Temagami: visitors can take part in the White Bear Family Challenge, a fun, 3.8-kilometre (km) canoe race in which silly costumes are encouraged. The Temiskaming Smallmouth Bass (TSB) series of tournaments continues Saturday, July 16, on Lake Temiskaming and Sunday, July 17, on Bay Lake. Spectators are welcome to come to see the live haul brought back for the 3 p.m. weigh-ins at the New Liskeard and Latchford waterfronts, respec-tively.

The TSB continues: August 13 Trout Lake, August 14 Lake Nipissing out of Hunters Bay, August 27 Lake Kenogami, season-ending Classic is September 24 Cassels Lake and 25th on Lake Temagami.NLSC REGISTRATION

The New Liskeard Skating Club’s 28th annual Summer Skating School starts Monday, July 18, at the Don Shepherdson Memorial Arena.

It begins with a one-week Boot Camp of on- and off-ice programs. The week ends with a seminar and luncheon with special guests.

Power skating starts July 18 for the Advanced group at 7 a.m. and the Midgets at 7 p.m. The Juniors start July 19 at 7 a.m. for a five-week session.

Then, starting July 25 for four weeks, the regular Summer Skating School takes place, including Learn To Skate.
