The Granville Rotary Club’s Trivia Night returns on Saturday, Jan. 26 with a fun-filled night of fundraising and trivia. The event, which will be held again this year at the Forum, features a cash bar, free appetiz-ers and desserts. And, of course, it pits some of the region’s best trivia teams all battling for the title of “Titans of Trivia.” Last year the Salem Rotary Club took home top honors, best-ing more than 17 area trivia teams. This year Granville Rotarian Dave O’Brien said he would not be surprised to see a new champion. “A lot of teams prepare for this event weeks in advance,” he said. “They know it is all great fun and for a terrific cause, but they also enjoy winning.” Some of the teams in the 2012 event included teams from the Fair Haven Rotary, Granville Lions Club, South Granville Church, TD Bank, SUNY Plattsburgh, Glens Falls Rotary, Evergreen Slate, Poultney Women’s Club, a team of Washington County Supervisors and more. O’Brien said he encouraged local groups and organizations to put a team together to partici-pate. Each team can have a max-imum of six players and teams can be made up of both adults and students. The cost for a

team to participate is $150 (or just $15 per person). Spectators are also welcome to come and enjoy the fun. The cost for spec-tators is $15. The trivia contest itself is made up of five rounds. Answers and team scores are given after each round. Rounds one, two and three feature 20 questions with 30 seconds to record the answer. Rounds four and five feature 10 questions with 15 seconds to answer. There also will be a two-point bonus question for every round and tie-breakers will be used if needed. “Another great feature of the event is that the trivia questions are fun-filled and very entertain-ing,” O’Brien said. He added they cover local topics as well as national topics. The most important thing, how-ever, O’Brien said was that all the money raised goes back into the local community. Doors open for the event at 6 p.m. and play starts at 7 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to each of the six players of the winning team. They also get a free table for the next Trivia Night. Also, a 50/50 raffle will be held. Deadline to enter is Jan. 18. For further information or to enter your team contact Dave O’Brien at 518-866-1022 or Peter O’Brien at TD Bank at 518-642-1010.
