GeneralThe Volvo On Call system (herein referred toas VOC) is linked to the car's SRS and alarmsystems. See the vehicle's owner's manualfor information about these systems. The carhas a built-in GSM module for communica-tion between the car and VOC's services. Themap on page 16 shows the countries wherethe system is available. Contact your Volvodealer (see page 17) for up to date informa-tion as this map may be edited. VOC is a sup-plementary service comprising safety, secur-ity and comfort services, and whether or notthey are available is dependent upon the mar-ket. Contact your Volvo dealer for informationon which of these services are applicable inyour country.

AvailabilityOnce the remote key has been removed fromthe car the VOC system functions are availa-ble continuously for 3 days and then once perhour during the next 11 days.

WARNING

The system only works in areas whereVOC's partners have GSM coverage and inthe markets where the Volvo On Call serv-ice is available.

Just as with mobile phones, atmosphericdisturbances or sparse transmitter cover-age may lead to connection being impos-sible, e.g. in sparsely populated areas.

SubscriptionA subscription is initiated in connection withthe purchase of the car and the VOC systembeing activated. The subscription has a timelimit but can be extended, and validitydepends on market.

Transfer of ownership of a car withVolvo On CallIt is very important with a transfer of owner-ship that the VOC services are cancelled sothat the former owner cannot continue to per-form VOC services in the car. Contact anauthorised Volvo dealer in the event of achange of owner.

Comfort Services• Volvo On Call mobile application - As a

Volvo On Call user you have access to amobile application that enables you tomaintain contact with your parked car viaan iPhone, Windows Phone or Androidphone. You can locate the car, remotelylock the car, remotely start the heater,view information on fuel level, and a lotmore besides. For more information onthe Volvo On Call app, see page 7.

• Remote heater starting by text mes-sage - Cars fitted with a fuel-drivenengine block heater and passenger com-partment heater in combination with VOCoffer the same settings for the heater asinside the car, using an ordinary mobilephone. It is possible to define timer set-tings by sending the required settingusing a mobile phone. For information onremote heater starting by text message,see page 8.

Overview Safety ServicesThe VOC system uses GPS (GlobalPositioning System) to locate the car and thecar's built-in GSM module to contact VOCCustomer Service.

When you press the ON CALL- or SOS but-ton a signal is sent to VOC Customer Serviceabout the car's position and the service yourequested.

NOTE

The SOS button must only be used in theevent of accidents, illness or if there is anexternal threat to the car and its passen-gers.

The SOS function is only designed foremergency situations. Improper use maylead to extra debiting. The ON CALL but-ton can be used for all other services,including roadside assistance.

To disable the ON CALL and SOS buttonswhen the key is not inserted, see the menuoption Key lock on page 14.

The system is not available if the menu optionRadio transmission is set to OFF 1.

Volvo On Call mobile application1

The Volvo On Call app is a very practical anduseful mobile application that simplifies youcar ownership in different ways by allowingyou to check and monitor the car at any timeno matter where you are. You can use theVolvo On Call app to find your car, lock andunlock your car, check the dashboard and setthe passenger compartment heater with thesimple push of a button on your mobile.

The mobile application is continuously upda-ted which may mean that this supplementdoes not reflect available functionality. SeeInformation on the Internet for available func-tionality and associated user manual.

The Volvo On Call mobile application is avail-able for iPhone, Windows Phones andAndroid phones. You can download it fromthe Apple AppStore, Windows Phone or Goo-gle Play.

Locating the carThe position of the car is shown on a mapand there is the option to receive directions tothe car. There is also a digital compass thatpoints the driver in the right direction. Whenyou are within approx. 100 metres from thecar there is the option to activate the car's

horn and direction indicators in order to facili-tate the search.

The car's instrument panelThis function provides the driver with accessto a range of information: fuel level, remainingmileage with existing fuel quantity, averageconsumption, average speed, and readingsfrom the odometer and trip meter.

Checking the carThe mobile app carries out a "health check"of the car and shows information on bulbs,brake fluid, coolant and oil level.

Driving journalDetailed information on each journey duringthe last 40 days can be downloaded andsaved. There is also the option to export all orselected journeys from the mobile applicationin spreadsheet format and send this to anemail address. Suitable for travel on officialbusiness, for example.

There is the option to deactivate the drivingjournal. In which case the car does not sendany log information after each completedjourney.

Vehicle informationBasic data about the car such as model, reg-istration number and VIN number are easilyaccessible.

Anti-theft warningIf the car alarm is activated the driver isadvised of this via the mobile.

Remote locking of doorsStatus for all doors and windows is shown.The driver can lock and unlock the car. Forsecurity reasons the password for the appli-cation is always required to remotely unlockthe car.

Remote Heater StartIf the car is equipped with a parking heaterthen it can be started immediately or pro-grammed to start at two different time pointswithin 24 hours.

Battery and charge status2

See how much charge is in the hybrid batteryand whether charging is in progress.

it is possible to use the mobile app to set thetime when charging is to take place.

Reminder to insert charge cable2

You can enable reminders in your mobile appif you forget to plug in the charging cablewhen parking the car.

Preconditioning2

Preconditioning prepares the car's drive sys-tem and passenger compartment beforedeparture, so that both wear and energyneeds during the journey are reduced. Themobile app is used in the same way as forremote heater start.

Information on the InternetFor more information about the Volvo On Callmobile app, see www.volvocars.com > Selectcountry > Sales & Services > Volvo On Call.Amongst other things, you can download adetailed user manual and also find frequentlyasked questions and answers.

Remote heater start via SMSTo control the heater in the car with your cellphone means effortless operation of theheater, increasing the comfort experience at acost of an SMS.

The heater function has two times, referred toin this book as T1 and T2. These show whenthe car has reached the set temperature. Inorder for only the authorised user to controlthe heater, the SMS message must includethe car's registration number, followed bythe3 VOC system's PIN code4.

NOTE

Each subcommand is followed by a #character. The message should be writtenas a string without spaces and finishedwith a # character, e.g. # PIN code # 1 #

Telephone numberThe message should be sent to the followingnumber: +46 70 903 20 40. On some cellphones, it is possible to create a messagetemplate to make it a simpler and faster pro-cedure.

NOTE

Take care with where the car is parkedwhen using the remote start function forthe heater as the heater gives off exhaustfumes: see the car's owner’s manual formore information.

Direct CommandsTo start the heater directly:

1. Enter the car's registration number fol-lowed by # PIN code # 1 #

2. Send the message.

If the heater is running and is to be switchedoff immediately:

1. Enter the car's registration number fol-lowed by # PIN code # 0 #

2. Send the message.

Time commandIf a new time is to be added, end the mes-sage with the desired time, e.g. 17305.

Change and activate T1:

1. Enter the car's registration number fol-lowed by # PIN code # 11 # Time #

2. Send the message.

If a previously entered time should be acti-vated:

The set time must be deactivated to cancel apreviously scheduled heater start.

To deactivate T1:

To deactivate T2:

1. Enter the car's registration number fol-lowed by # PIN code # 02 #

2. Send the message.

If the heater does not startThere are situations when the heater can notstart. In which case, an SMS is sent with thetext "The heater could not start!" to themobile number that has tried to initiate theservice.

Automatic alarmIf the seat belt pre-tensioners, airbags orinflatable curtain (see the car's owner's man-ual) deploy the following occurs:

1. A message is sent automatically from thecar to the VOC Customer Service withinformation about the car's position andthat the SRS system has been deployed.

2. The VOC Customer Service then estab-lishes voice contact with the car's driverand attempts to find out the extent of thecrash and the need of help.

3. VOC Customer Service then contacts thenecessary assistance (police, ambulance,towing, etc.).

Manual alarm1. Push the SOS button for at least

2 seconds to summon help in case of ill-ness, external threats to the car or pas-sengers, etc.

2. VOC Customer Service is notified of theneed for help and information about thecar's position.

3. VOC Customer Service establishes voicecontact with the driver and agrees on thenecessary assistance.

If voice contact cannot be established, VOCCustomer Service contacts the relevantauthorities, who then take the appropriateaction.

Roadside Assistance1. Press the ON CALL button for at least

2 seconds to summon help in the event ofa puncture, fuel shortage, dischargedbattery, etc.

2. VOC Customer Service establishes voicecontact with the driver and agrees on thenecessary assistance.

If voice contact cannot be established, VOCCustomer Service contacts the relevantauthorities, who then take the appropriateaction.

Emergency NumberWhen the emergency service is enabled, theVOC system establishes contact with theVOC Customer Service in the country wherethe car is located.

If this is not possible, the call is forwarded tothe emergency number 112 instead.

Cancelling a callA started service can be cancelled within10 seconds by pressing the EXIT button (seeimages on page 5).

Information messages on the displayOn Call Deactivated - The VOC subscriptionis not activated or is no longer valid! Theservices will not work. Contact your Volvodealer or VOC Customer Service, seepage 17.

On Call Service required - The VOC systemis not working. Visit your Volvo dealer forhelp.

On Call subscr. Will soon expire - The VOCsubscription will soon expire. Contact yourVolvo dealer.

Volvo On Call in standby - The phone1 canbe turned on temporarily.

1. Press PHONE (see images on page 5).

2. The phone can then be used for calls, butwill automatically revert to standby after ashort while.

VOC Customer Service cannot contactyour car while a call is being made with thebuilt-in telephone.

When a call with VOC Customer Service isended and the service is finished, the VOCsystem will automatically go back to phonemode on the phone and the service starts.

To contact VOC Customer Service from a dif-ferent phone than the car's built-in phone,see page 17.

GeneralVolvo's security services aim to minimise therisk of the owner losing his/her car. If the caris stolen, it can also be tracked and possiblydeactivated.

VOC's back-up battery kicks in if the carpower fails.

In addition to the safety and security services,an enhanced security system is offered onsome markets as an option:

Security system certified in accordance withStichting VbV which fulfils requirements inaccordance with Track & Tracing, TT03. 1, 2

Anti-theft warningAnti-theft warning is a system that is acti-vated in the event of burglary or theft.

If the car alarm system is activated, VOCCustomer Service will be notified automati-cally after a specified time. If the alarm isturned off using the remote control key theservice will be cancelled.

Stolen Vehicle TrackingStolen Vehicle Tracking is a system that helpsto track the car in the event of theft. If thevehicle has been stolen, VOC Customer Serv-ice can track the vehicle to facilitate its return.

NOTE

This also applies if the car has been stolenusing the associated remote control key.

Remote Door Unlock1. If the car's remote control key has been

lost or locked in the car then it is possibleto remotely unlock the car within the fol-

lowing 14 days with assistance from VOCCustomer Service.

2. VOC Customer Service sends a signal tothe car and after agreement with the carowner or other authorised person, the caris unlocked.

3. The boot lid/tailgate must be opened tounlock the doors3. Press twice on thetouch button4 or pull the handle5.

When the doors are opened, the car's alarmsystem will trigger. Turn off the alarm bypressing the unlock button on the remote keyor insert the remote key in the ignition switch.

NOTE

If the tailgate does not open within a timepredefined by VOC Customer Service, theboot lid/tailgate will be relocked.

NOTE

If, for example, the car is in a parkinggarage, the remote unlocking function maypossibly be disrupted due to poor recep-tion.

Remote Vehicle Immobiliser6

If the car is stolen the owner or authoritiescontact VOC Customer Service.

NOTE

This also applies if the car has been stolenusing the associated remote control key.

After having been in contact with the authori-ties VOC Customer Service then deactivatesthe remote control keys to prevent the carfrom being started. A deactivated car canonly be restarted by contacting VOC Cus-tomer Service and when the required verifica-tion has been approved. VOC CustomerService can then activate the car.

Unauthorised movement (UMD)* 7, 8

UMD (Unauthorized Movement Detection) is asystem for monitoring unauthorised move-ment.

Unauthorised movement means that the vehi-cle is moved with the engine switched off. Ifthe system detects an unauthorised move-ment of the vehicle, VOC Customer Servicewill be notified automatically.

Examples of unauthorised movement aretowing or loading and transportation on atrailer. Note for example that ferry crossingsand motorail services also count as unauthor-ised movement when the engine is switchedoff. In such situations UMD must be tempo-rarily deactivated (see the section Reducedalarm level in the owner's manual for the car).

the control panel (confirm by pressingagain) is the same as holding down theSOS button for 2 seconds: the manualalarm service is activated. This menuoption acts as a backup function for theSOS button.

• On Call - Pressing OK/MENU1/ENTER2

in the control panel (confirm by pressingagain) is the same as holding on the ONCALL button for 2 seconds: the roadassistance services are activated. Thismenu option acts as a backup functionfor the ON CALL button.

• Activate radio transmission/Deactivate radio transmission

NOTE

In the XC90, this menu option is calledRadio trans.

The VOC system is an automatic receptionfunction, which means that the system willautomatically check the availability of VOCservice network. To turn off both the built-inphone and the automatic reception function,proceed as follows:

1. When Radio transmission appears in thedisplay, press OK/MENU1/ENTER2 in thecontrol panel.

2. If the radio transmission code is disabled:Then press OK/MENU1/ENTER2 once toconfirm. - The automatic reception func-tion restarts automatically the next timethe car is started.

If the radio transmission code is enabled:Enter the correct radio transmission code (thepreset code is 1234) and then press OK/MENU1/ENTER2.

– The automatic reception function restartsautomatically the next time the car isstarted.

• Change radio transmission code

To deactivate the radio transmission code:

1. When Change radio transmission codeappears in the display, press OK/MENU1/ENTER2 in the control panel.

– Radio transmission can be disabled with-out a code.

To activate the radio transmission code:

1. When Change radio transmission codeappears in the display, press OK/MENU1/ENTER2 in the control panel.

2. Enter the four-digit code (the preset codeis 1234) and then press OK/MENU1/ENTER2.

3. Confirm the code and then press OK/MENU1/ENTER2.

– Radio transmission can only be activatedwith the correct code.

• Key lock - You can decide when theSOS and ON CALL buttons are to beenabled. This function means the buttons

are only enabled if the remote key is setto I, II or if the engine is running.

• Activate subscription - Used to start asubscription.

Why collect personal information?Personal information is used by Volvo and itspartners both within and outside of theEU/EES to provide and develop the VOCservice.

What personal information iscollected?The personal information collected primarilybelongs to the following three categories.

• Personal information that the customerprovides in connection with the activationof the VOC service and during other con-tact with Volvo this includes name,

address, telephone number, type of serv-ice and the duration of the service.

• When an specific event covered by theservice occurs information is automati-cally sent from the vehicle. Such a mes-sage contains the vehicle ID (VIN), timewhen the service is used, type of service,if airbags have been triggered, if the belttensioners have been triggered, currentamount of fuel, current temperatureinside and outside the vehicle, whetherthe doors and windows are locked oropen and the vehicle's last six positionswith speed and direction.

• Other information that can be linked tothe customer are telephone calls withpeople in the vehicle, the customer centrethat provided the service and notes madeby the customer service operator.

Who will be able to see my personaldetails?Volvo uses sub-contractors to provide theservice. These sub-contractors work onbehalf of Volvo and may only process per-sonal details to the extent necessary to pro-vide the service. All sub-contractors arebound by agreements requiring them toobserve secrecy and to treat personal detailsin accordance with applicable law.

Removal proceduresThe personal details required to provide theVOC service are stored during the agreementperiod and thereafter for as long as necessaryin order for Volvo to fulfil its obligations underlaw and other regulations. Information gener-ated during events covered by the VOC serv-ice is pared down three months after theevent occurred.

Correction and register extractsPrivate persons have the right to request cor-rection of incorrect data and to obtain anextract which shows the personal informationcollected. Contact Volvo's customer serviceto correct personal information. Registerextract requests must be made in writing andbe personally signed by the applicant andinclude name, address and customer num-ber. The request should be sent to Volvo CarCorporation, Personal Information Represen-tative, Dept. 50090, HB3S, 405 31 Gothen-burg, Sweden.
