Volvo On CallVolvo On Call is an integrated, subscription-

based system that provides emergency, road-

side assistance and security services.

Volvo On Call is connected to the vehicle's airbagand alarm systems. The vehicle has an integratedGlobal System for Mobile Communications(GSM) module that handles communicationbetween the vehicle and the Volvo On Call cus-tomer service center.

AvailabilityVolvo On Call uses the Global NavigationSatellite System (GNSS) to locate the vehicleand its integrated GSM module to enable com-munication with the Volvo On Call customer serv-ice center and the Volvo On Call mobile app.

From the time that the remote key has beenremoved from the vehicle, Volvo On Call's func-tions remain available for 5 full days and subse-quently once an hour for the following 17 days.After three weeks have elapsed, the system willremain switched off until the engine is started.

WARNING

The system can only function in areas wherethere is adequate cellular network coverage.

Just as in the case of cell phones, atmos-pheric disturbances or areas with relativelyfew GSM transmitters can make it impossiblefor Volvo On Call to make a connection, forexample, in rural areas.

SubscriptionsA free, limited-time trial subscription is initiatedwhen the vehicle is purchased and Volvo On Callis activated. The subscription can be extended bycontacting your Volvo retailer.

Using Volvo On CallVolvo On Call is controlled using the buttons in

the ceiling console and the center display.

In the event of an accident in which the seat beltpretensioners, airbags or the inflatable curtainshave been triggered, a signal is transmitted auto-matically to the Volvo On Call customer servicecenter, who send the appropriate type of assis-tance (ambulance, police, etc.) to the site.

When a service is active, a symbol will appear onthe center display.

The SOS button: emergency situationsPress and hold the SOS button for approx.2 seconds to activate the manual alarm function.

The ON CALL button: roadsideassistancePress the ON CALL button for approx. 2 secondsto activate the roadside assistance functions.

Alternative to the ON CALL button

In the center display's Phone view, tap On Call.Select Call in the pop-up window that opens.

NOTE

The SOS button should only be used in anemergency situation such as an accident, ill-ness or in the event of a threat to the occu-pants of the vehicle. Misusing this buttoncould result in extra charges.

The ON CALL button can be used for all ofthe other Volvo On Call services, includingroadside assistance.

Canceling a callA service call that has been initiated can be can-celled within 8 seconds by pressing the EXIT

button on the steering wheel keypad.

SettingsSettings and selections can be made in the cen-

ter display by going to Settings

Communication Volvo On Call. These set-tings include activating/deactivating a subscrip-tion, button lock, etc.

Volvo IDA Volvo ID can be used to access a number of

online services1

Creating a Volvo IDA Volvo ID can be created in two ways:

Using the Volvo ID app

1. If you have not already done so, downloadthe Volvo ID app from the DownloadCenter.

2. Start the app and register a personal emailaddress.

3. Follow the instructions that will be sent auto-matically to this email address.

> A Volvo ID has now been created and hasbeen automatically registered to the vehi-cle. The Volvo ID services available cannow be used.

Using the Volvo On Call app

1. Download the latest version of the Volvo OnCall app to your cell phone from e.g., the AppStore, Windows Phone or Google Play.

2. Start the app and create a Volvo ID on thestart page.

3. Register a personal email address and thenfollow the instructions that will be sent auto-matically to this address.

Registering your Volvo ID to the vehicleIf your Volvo ID was created using the Volvo OnCall mobile app, the ID has to be registered tothe vehicle:

1. With the vehicle connected to the Internet,download the Volvo ID app from theDownload Center in the center display'sApp view. See also the article "Downloading,updating and uninstalling apps."

2. Start the app and enter your Volvo ID.

3. Follow the instructions that will be sent auto-matically to the email address linked to yourVolvo ID.

> Your Volvo ID is now registered to thevehicle and the Volvo ID services availablecan be used.

Advantages of having a Volvo ID• Only one user name and password are

required to access online services.

• If you change a user name or password forone of the online service (e.g., Volvo On Call),it/they will also be automatically changed forthe other services.

Volvo On Call convenience servicesConvenience services are available by using the

mobile app to e.g., remote-start the engine*, etc.

As a Volvo On Call user, a mobile app is availablethat enables you to have telephone contact froman iPhone or from Windows/Android phones withyour vehicle when it is parked. With it, you canlocate the vehicle, lock it from another location,check the fuel level and much more. Read moreabout this app in the following section.

Volvo On Call mobile appAs a Volvo On Call user, you can download a

mobile app that enables you to have telephone

contact with your vehicle when it is parked.

Certain functions may not be available in all mod-els.

The mobile app is updated regularly, which mayresult in this information not being completelyup-to-date with respect to the functionality availa-ble. For additional information about the app, goto support.volvocars.com

The Volvo On Call mobile app is available for theiPhone and for Windows/Android phones andcan be downloaded from Apple's AppStore, Win-dows Phone Store or Google Play.

A personal Volvo ID is required in order to usethe mobile app.

Locating the vehicleThe vehicle's location is shown on a map anddirections to the vehicle can be provided. There isalso a digital compass to help show the ownerthe right direction. When you are within approx.100 yards/meters of the vehicle, you can activateits horn and turn signals to help locate it.

The vehicle's instrument panelThis function provides information such as: thefuel level, range on the remaining fuel, averagefuel consumption, average speed and odometer/trip odometer readings.

Vehicle "checkup"The mobile app monitors the vehicle's conditionand provides information about bulbs and the lev-els of brake fluid, coolant and engine oil.

Driving logbookDetailed information about each trip made duringthe past 40 days can be saved and downloaded.All or part of this information can be exportedfrom the mobile app to a spreadsheet format andsent to an email address. This is very useful fore.g., keeping track of business-related driving.

This function can be deactivated, in which casethe vehicle will not transmit logbook informationat the end of each trip.

Vehicle informationBasic information such as model, license platenumber and VIN number are readily accessible.

Theft notificationIf the vehicle's alarm is triggered, the owner willbe informed via his/her cell phone.

Remote door unlockThe status of all doors and windows is provided.The owner can lock/unlock the vehicle fromanother location but for security reasons, the

app's password is always required before thevehicle can be unlocked.

Engine remote start (ERS)*2

ERS makes it possible to remotely start theengine using the remote key to enable the cli-mate system to cool or heat the passenger com-partment before driving.

When the engine starts, the climate system willstart using automatic settings.

You can choose to let the engine run forbetween 1 and 15 minutes before it automati-cally switches off again. After 2 ERS starts, theengine must be started in the normal way beforeERS can be used again.

WARNING

Keep the following in mind before using ERS:

• The vehicle should be in view.

• The vehicle should be unoccupied.

• The vehicle must not be parked indoorsor in an enclosed area. Exhaust fumes areharmful to the health.

NOTE

Always observe applicable state, provinceand/or local laws regarding engine idlingwhen using ERS.

Volvo On Call PIN codeThe PIN code is used for security purposes to

help identify those persons who are authorized

to use Volvo On Call services in a specific vehi-

cle.

The 4-digit PIN code, which was sent to youwhen your Volvo retailer activated your subscrip-tion, is used for security reasons to help identifythose persons who are authorized to use certainVolvo On Call services such as remote doorunlock or to create an account in the mobile app.

If you have forgotten or would like tochange your PIN codeIf you have forgotten your PIN code or would liketo change it (e.g., if you have purchased a previ-ously owned vehicle with Volvo On Call), contactyour Volvo retailer or press the On Call button inyour vehicle. The new code will be sent to you viaemail.

If an incorrect PIN code has beenentered in the app multiple timesIf a PIN code has been entered incorrectly10 times in a row, the account will be frozen. Inorder to use the app again, a new PIN code mustbe selected and a new app account will have tobe created.

Personal informationPersonal information is gathered for use with the

Volvo On Call service.

Volvo's sales companies are responsible for pro-cessing and storing Volvo On Call-related infor-mation. This information is treated according tolegislation and regulations pertaining to data ofthis type.

Why information is gatheredPersonal information is used by Volvo and itspartners to provide and develop the Volvo On Callservice.

Types of personal information gatheredThe primary types of personal information gath-ered for Volvo On Call-related purposes are:

• Personal information that the customer pro-vides in connection with the activation of theVolvo On Call service and during other con-tact with Volvo, including name, address, tel-ephone number, type of service and theduration of the service.

• When information about a specific Volvo OnCall-related event is automatically transmit-ted from the vehicle. A message of this type

contains: the vehicle identification number(VIN), time when the service is used, type ofservice, if airbags have been triggered, if theseat belt tensioners have been triggered,current fuel level, current temperature insideand outside the vehicle, whether the doorsare locked and windows are closed and thevehicle's last six locations, including speedand direction.

• Other information associated with theowner/driver, such as telephone calls withpeople in the vehicle, the customer servicecenter that provided the service and notesmade by the customer service operator.

Access to my personal informationVolvo uses sub-contractors to provide the service.These sub-contractors work on behalf of Volvoand may only process personal information to theextent necessary to provide service. All sub-con-tractors are bound by agreements requiring themto observe strict confidentiality and to treat per-sonal details in accordance with applicable legis-lation.

Deleting personal informationThe personal details required to provide the VolvoOn Call service are stored during the subscriptionperiod and thereafter for as long as necessary inorder for Volvo to fulfil its obligations accordingto legislation and other regulations. Informationgenerated during events covered by the Volvo On

Call service is deleted three months after anevent has occurred.

Corrections and register extractsPrivate persons have the right to request correc-tions of incorrect information and to obtain anextract showing the personal information that hasbeen processed. Requests for extracts from theregister must be submitted in writing and signedby the applicant and include name, address andcustomer number. The request should be postedto:

Changing ownership of a vehiclewith Volvo On CallIf the vehicle changes owners, the Volvo On Call

service should be cancelled.

Cancelling the Volvo On Call serviceIf your vehicle changes owners, contact yourVolvo retailer to cancel the Volvo On Call service.The subscription will be terminated and the serv-ice history will be erased.

When the vehicle changes owners, all personalsettings should be reset to the factory defaults,see the owner's manual supplement.

Starting the Volvo On Call serviceIf you purchase a previously owned Volvo withVolvo On Call:

The new owner should contact his/her Volvoretailer to transfer the remaining period of theVolvo On Call subscription. All contact informa-tion must be updated in order for Volvo On Callto function and to ensure that the previous owneris no longer authorized to use Volvo On Call serv-ices in the vehicle. The new owner will be given a4-digit personal code, which is used to identifyhim/her as being authorized to approve certainVolvo On Call services.

services are intended for use in emergency sit-

Automatic alarmIn the event of certain types of accidents, a signalis transmitted automatically to the Volvo On Callcustomer service center, who take appropriateaction according to the information that theyreceive.

Emergency numberWhen an emergency call has been initiated, VolvoOn Call attempts to contact the customer servicecenter. If this is not possible, the call will betransferred to the emergency 911 numberinstead.

Using Volvo On Call to summonhelpUse Volvo On Call to summon help in the event

of a flat tire, an empty fuel tank, etc.

1. Press the ON CALL button for at least2 seconds.

2. The Volvo On Call customer service centerattempts to establish voice contact with thedriver to determine the need for assistance.

Volvo On Call security servicesThe Volvo On Call security services are intended

to provide assistance, for instance, if you are

locked out of your vehicle, if it has been stolen,

etc.

Volvo On Call's security services are primarilyintended to help minimize the risk of the vehiclebeing stolen.

If the vehicle's normal electrical system is notfunctioning properly, Volvo On Call's reserve bat-tery provides the system with current.

Theft notificationA signal will be sent automatically to the VolvoOn Call customer service center in the event of abreak-in or theft (if the vehicle's alarm has beentriggered).

This service will be interrupted if the alarm isturned off using one of the vehicle's remote keys.

Remote door unlockIf the vehicle's remote key has been lost orlocked in the car, the doors can be unlockedremotely within the following 5 days with assis-tance from the Volvo On Call customer servicecenter after the owner's identity has been verifiedby his/her pin code.

Remote vehicle immobilizerIf the vehicle has been stolen, the owner or policecan contact the Volvo On Call customer service

center to have the vehicle's remote keys immobi-lized (deactivated).

NOTE

This applies even if the vehicle has beenunlocked and started with one of its remotekeys.

After contacting the owner/police, the Volvo OnCall customer service center then deactivates theremote keys. Once the engine has been switchedoff, it can only be restarted if the owner/policehas given the Volvo On Call customer servicecenter authorization to reactivate the remotekeys. Once this authorization has been verified(using your PIN code), the Volvo On Call cus-tomer service center will reactivate the remotekeys.

Unlocking the vehicle from thecustomer service centerThe doors can be unlocked remotely with assis-

tance from the Volvo On Call customer service

center.

1. Contact the Volvo On Call customer servicecenter at 855-399-4691 (this numberapplies in both the United States and Can-ada).

2. After confirming that the caller is the vehi-cle's owner or other authorized person (usingyour PIN code), the Volvo On Call customerservice center sends a signal to the vehicleto unlock it.

3. The tailgate has to be opened to unlock theother doors. Press lightly on the rubberizedpressure plate under the outer tailgate han-dle.

The trunk has to be opened to unlock theother doors. Press lightly on the rubberizedpressure plate under the outer trunk openingcontrol.

NOTE

If the tailgate is not opened within the timeperiod set by the Volvo On Call customerservice center, it will relock.

If the trunk is not opened within the timeperiod set by the Volvo On Call customerservice center, it will relock.

If the vehicle is parked in a garage or othercovered area, remote unlocking may not bepossible due to poor signal reception.
