There are still no litter reviews from NSW again this week as we have not received any details of the Whelping Report for

May from GRNSW.

We have had discussions with them though and have been assured they are working on the problem and hope to have it

resolved very shortly.

We will resume NSW Litter reviews as soon as the information starts to flow again.

the track was closed for repairs.

Copley’s Corner

Outsider creates Healesville Cup mayhem

By Gerard Guthrie and Andrew Copley

It was a case of second time lucky in the Group 3

Healesville Cup (350m) on Sunday afternoon for

Kouta Mayhem when Jason Sharp’s $20.90

roughie careered away with the straight-track

feature and its accompanying $25,000 winner’s

purse.

Kouta Mayhem was lining up in the Healesville Cup

for the second time, having finished seventh to

Zinzan Brooke in 2017, while his three previous

victories at the track also included the lucrative

Straight Track Championship over the Cup course

last August.

A placegetter in last year’s Melbourne Cup

and also the Warragul Cup earlier this year, Kouta

Mayhem, a son of Fabregas and Belle’s Melody,

bred, raced and even whelped by Andrew Lazos and

his son Arthur, claimed a deserved Group

breakthrough at his eighth attempt.

“He really deserved to win a big race,” Jessica

Sharp, wife of trainer Jason, said.

“He ran third in the Melbourne Cup and we thought

he perhaps should’ve won the Hobart Thousand. We

thought that might have been his last chance to win

a Group race, but here we are. We are so proud of

him.”

Kouta Mayhem’s 19.24sec heat victory

represented a return to form, having been beaten at

his ten previous starts, dating back to April.

Drawn in box four, as had been the case in his heat,

Kouta Mayhem was the outsider of the Cup field,

with Anthony Azzopardi’s dual Group 1 winner

Raw Ability the $2.90 favourite, while Brooke

Ennis was taking aim at back-to-back Healesville

Cup successes with $5 second elect Barooga Brett.

Kouta Mayhem came out running and after

getting the better of leader Zoom Out ($9.10) he

forged clear to score by 1.84 lengths in a fast

18.90sec, improving his impressive record to 21

from 51.

“It sounds silly but he has changed our lives,”

Jason Sharp said.

“He has given us the belief that we can do it…that

we can compete in the big races.

“I couldn’t believe his odds. He should’ve been

about 8-1.

“Watching the race I saw he was out in front at the

half-way mark and I knew they weren’t going to

catch him.”

Kouta Mayhem with Mia, Jessica & Jason Sharp.

The Sharps Avalon training operation is very much

a family affair, with Jason and Jessica’s children

Liam, Dylan and Mia all enjoying their

involvement, with Jason speaking glowingly of

Liam, who handled Kouta Mayhem in the Cup.

“Liam is like the racing manager of our team. He’ll

decide where we race him next.”

Liam was in a state of shock immediately after the

Cup, holding his hands up and saying “my hands are

shaking.

Kouta Mayhem with handler Liam Sharp, who was

in disbelief in the moments following the cup.

Battle of the brothers

Rippin’ Sam & Tornado Tears

Tornado Tears continued his dominance over

litter brother Rippin’ Sam when the two squared

off in a two-dog exhibition trial over 595m at

Sandown Park on Thursday.

Regarded as Australia’s two best stayers, the

pair had met seven times under race conditions

heading into Thursday night, with Tornado Tears

holding a 7-0 advantage.

As expected, Tornado Tears jumped straight to

the lead in the trial, and despite Rippin’ Sam pouring

some pressure on, they were separated by two and a

half lengths at the finish.

Speed Star returns

Speed Star returns to Sandown this Sunday with

one-on-one greyhound racing taking over the

entire card.

The meeting will comprise 40 greyhounds

competing across 20 matches for a share in $190,000

in prize money.

Sports punters love the Speed Star concept as

they can multi-up a handful of greyhounds, not

dissimilar to a round of AFL footy.

Matches will be run over 515m, 595m and 715m.

THE FINALE`

Our last meeting for the 2018 season went off

without a hitch! It’s called Murphy’s Law ...

When you have plenty of time, and few dogs,

everything runs like clockwork with consummate

ease – when you have a lot of dogs and pressure on

for things to go right – they go wrong!

Anyway, the season has drawn to a close with 145

greyhounds and 55 trainers participating and raising

at least one flag during the season.

Some newcomers to the sport, some interstate

visitors but the stalwarts supported us throughout the

year and we hope they will be there for 2019.

The Club wishes to thank those who have made it all

possible – Neil and Teresa Mann; John and Kathy

Hurley; Jasmyn, Jayde and Kiah Hurley, Philip Frith

and Desmond Frith, Trevor Whelan, Janine Hurley,

Len Wilson, Ray Fewings, Michelle Stirling, Jane

McNicholl and last, but not least – our fearless

stewards – Jan, Jim, Mat, Scotty and Michael.

Those stalwarts enjoyed a good day’s racing with

Don Turner and Judi Hurley providing doubles with

Easy Betts and Hilltop Adel for Don and Emerley

Judge and Emerley Express for Judi. Phil Emrose

went home with a winner in the shape of Phil De

Thunder, Tim Ieraci found his way back to Virginia

and had the appropriately named pup Going to Pot

and Tina Cattermole was rewarded for her efforts

when Ricala greeted the judge. Trials will be held

for the next two Sundays only – bookings to Trevor

please – commence at 8.30 am.

The trick is to trim A LITTLE BIT regularly...the

quik which is where the blood supply is will retreat over time

if they are regularly clipped. Get good quality "scissor action"

clippers not the guillotine type.

The nail should eventually be just off the floor to avoid

pressure. Noel McMahon

This is Sienna (just because). My daughters chose her 4 years

ago, I didn't really want her- I really liked the big boys, but

my daughters were a bit intimidated by their size at the time.

She is my princess, the best decision "forced" on me, my

antidepressant, my first greyhound love. The hound I've been

waiting 16 years to adopt. And my favourite child... and my

daughters know it! Andrea Nattan

This Handsome boy Joe is currently in foster, but will be

available for adoption soon with GAP Seymour.

Anyway the reason for the post is because he is the brother of

my boy Roughie and they were also kennel mates, we so

desperately wanted to adopt him so we could reunite the two

of them but unfortunately we can't. Joe is a big sweet boy just

like his brother we hope he goes to a home where he is loved

and spoiled as much as Roughie and if Joe is adopted by a

Fogap member we would like to keep in touch.

Cheers Russell Wade

Greyhound Weekly is a proud supporter of the Greyhound Adoption Program

Noel McMahon

FOSTER A GREYHOUND:

There are many greyhounds who need a little more

assistance to help them settle into pet life

They fall into two categories

Greyhounds who are transitioning from the track

and need help to pass their GAP assessment

OR

Those dogs who have been a marginal fail at their

GAP assessment

These dogs are just gorgeous happy greyhounds, the

only difference is that need a little more help to

transition into pet life

The reality is that without foster carers some of

these dogs are at risk

If you would like to change the life of beautiful dog

contact Rebecca and join her team
