The Greyhound is a very old European breed of dog

It is gentle and intelligent breed whose combination of long,powerful legs, deep chest, flexible spine and slim buildallows it to reach average race speeds in excess 64kilometers per hour (40mph).

GREYHOUND RACING TERMS

Banker – highly expected to win

Ear Tattoos - A greyhound's right ear tattoo represents themonth, year and tattoo order of your dogs litter.

Dead Heat - An exact tie between two or more greyhounds ina race. The greyhound's nose determines the winner in thephoto finish

Lure - A mechanical device attached to an arm and electricallydriven around the racing strip. It's the object the greyhoundschase while racing. A lure generally is a stuffed object thatresembles either a bone or a rabbit

Photo Finish - A photo device utilized to more accuratelydetermine the winner of a race where the finishers are veryclose

Wire - The finish line for a race

RACE TRACK

• Tracks are generally oval in shape have 4 “bends”.

RACESA race meeting normally consists of 12 races with 6 dogs competing in each race, with only around 5 to15 minutes between each race.
