Pastor’s Letter October 28/29 Dear Parish Family, If you ever use the eastern side door of our church, especially the rear entrance under the portico by the confessional, you know that the journey from there to the parking lot can be an adventure. You find yourself face to face with exiting traffic and in winter the journey is even worse. There is no place to walk except on the roadway. Well, all that will soon change. We have planned a new path that will wind past the statue of St. Francis and the Life Statue on its way to the rear of our Basilica. This path will be the first segment of an overall plan to dignify the walkways around our church and make them more functional and beautiful. Drawing more attention to the two beautiful statues on the east side of the church will be an added benefit. As part of this project, the setting of the Life Statue which was given to our church by the Knights of Columbus will become even more reverent and prayerful. There will be new benches and a rose garden given in memory of Ellie Finalborgo. The rose is a traditional symbol of our commitment to life. This garden will be a beautiful place for people to pray and a place to take our children to teach them of our commitment to life. Not to mention that you will no longer need to stand in traffic to do so! We are hoping that preliminary work on the garden and existing trees and plants can soon begin to make way for the path. You can see details of this plan just above and a larger version of the plan on the bulletin board in the rear of our church. Sincerely yours in Christ,
Rev. Michael A. Vetrano, Pastor

Eucharistic Adoration Returns The Catechism quotes Saint John Paul II: “The Church and the world have a great need for Eucharistic worship. Jesus awaits us in this sacrament of love. Let us not refuse the time to go to meet him in adoration, in contemplation full of faith, and open to making amends for the serious offenses and crimes of the world. Let our adoration never cease. Our parish will renew the
practice of an hour of Eucharistic Adoration following the noon mass on
Fridays. We would like to dedicate this hour as a time of contemplation and
reflection to pray especially for our families. For strength in family life, for the
return of family members to the church, for healing and reconciliation within
families that are hurting.

In Sympathy Jane Ellen Rossetti We mourn the passing of Jane Rossetti on October 6, 2017. A mass of Christian Burial was
celebrated at the Basilica Parish of Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary by Rev. Msgr. William Gill on
October 10, 2017. A private cremation followed. Jane was a loving wife and mother. She loved
going to the beach in Southampton Shores, gardening, entertaining and spending time with her
six grandchildren, family and friends. Her grandchildren loved being with their “Nana” and she
never missed an opportunity to be with them. Our sympathies go out to her husband, Robert J.
Rossetti; two daughters, Diana Esposito and husband Jeffrey and their four children, Jake, Brooke, Ryder and Zoe and

DOMINGO 29 TIEMPO ORDINARIO A.
