Our 40 over cricket team travelled to Peak Hill on Friday to play in the first
round of the competition. Peak Hill won the toss and decided to bat. It took
Trundle 17 overs to take all 10 wickets with Peak Hill scoring a total of 13 runs.
Congratulations to Karl Turner who took 5 wickets on the day. It was a quick
batting innings for Trundle only losing 1 wicket
to score the 14 runs needed to win.
A big thank you to Peak Hill for continuing to
bowl to us so everyone could have a bat after
the game was won.
Thank you to Luke Watt for umpiring and
Miss Rowlands for scoring and driving the bus.
A big thank you also to Mrs Morgan for doing
all the paperwork. We play a home game next round against Boorowa.

Principal’s
Message
Last week was incredibly busy and productive
both for students and staff. On Monday the Dad’s in Schools Program started in the K/1/2 classroom.
This program is designed to encourage males to
become more involved in schools and the
education of their children. I completely
understand how busy people are especially this
time of year but it would be nice to see as many
males as possible taking part in the activities in the
classroom. If fathers are not available a significant
male involved with the child is just as good. An
open classroom and BBQ will be conducted on the
26th October. Please RSVP to the invitation sent
home with students last Monday for catering
purposes. Times and a reminder are in this
newsletter.
Another event coming up very soon is our active
playgroup on the 28th of October in partnership
with Centacare Forbes. This playgroup is an active
playgroup where students are able to take part in a
variety of gross motor activities that cross the
centre line of the brain fostering gross motor and
cognitive development. Morning tea is provided
both for children and parents. Refer to the
advertisement in this newsletter.
Transition was an outstanding success with seven
students attending. It appears we will have nine
Kinder students this year. There is still plenty of
room for new students in Kinder and I have the
welcome mat dry cleaned and ready to go. A
pleasing aspect of our Kinder intake is the gender
balance. It is very important that children and
teachers are exposed to both genders as I believe
the school environment should be a small snapshot
of wider society in terms of gender, belief systems
and socio-economic status. When this occurs it
allows children to develop appropriate coping skills
essential to interact in society through exposure to
different genders, learning styles and physical
abilities. Public Education allows both genders equal
opportunity to be exposed to all the opportunities
of school but recognises difference and modifies
strategies accordingly. After all our ultimate goal is
to equip young people to survive and flourish in
modern society not in protected environments.
Once again students who attended the State
Athletics Carnival did themselves and their school
proud. It is a fantastic achievement even to make
this event and another indication of the quality of
students attending this school. Thank you to all the
parents and coaches that accompanied students
and fostered their skills so they can compete at this
level. I spoke to Kylie Fernando and only as Kylie
can she reminded me about the innocence and
magic of youth. When I asked about her events she
told me she was amazed about how steep the steps
were at Homebush Stadium. We often forget that
most young people cherish the experience, winning
is just a bonus when it occurs.
Our senior boy’s cricket team last week had a
convincing victory over Peak Hill Central. After
inspection of the pitch, Captain Brad Watt summed
up that the groundsman had prepared a lump of
concrete covered in synthetic grass that would be
Dads in schools! All Fathers, Grandfathers, Uncles are
invited to school on Monday 26th
October. Activities will run from
11.20 to 1.20. Please come to
encourage and support your child
and to see what fantastic things they
are doing in the classroom.

forward to seeing
you all on Monday

perfect for the steep bounce and surprising pace of
Karl Typhoon Turner. Turner quickly claimed five
wickets in an unplayable spell of fast medium
bowling that only the tail ender Mr Sundries could
score from. Peak Hill was bowled out for 13 runs.
In the post-match interview Karl was asked what
he was bowling to gain such impressive figures.
Karl replied ‘pretty much rubbish’. Well Karl
certainly did not need self promotion as his
bowling was impressive enough.
This week transition continues so I hope to see
new faces for the 2016 Kindergarten class. Sport is
also featured this week with Super 8’s cricket and
League Tag. Both involve significant bus trips so
please parents, pack plenty of non-sugar snacks and
water. A roll on deodorant would also be an
advantage considering the nature of the activities
and the variety of smells that can happen after High
School students have played sport in summer. I
believe the Americans were trying to capture this
smell to create the ultimate weapon but it was
immediately banned by the United Nations. This
semester alone students have been able to
experience 37 individual extra-curricular activities.
This is outstanding variety of activities which
highlights the opportunities available in this school.
Recently we have had numerous failures of
expensive equipment which is extremely
frustrating. Major examples include, the new water
cooler decided to make noise but not actually
work, sounds like a few people I know, the
smartboard in K/1/2 decided it was time to retire;
the brand new refrigerated air-conditioner in the
senior room blew the compressor and the circuit
breaker that regulates the senior room needed
replacing. Frustrating is not a strong enough term when significant school funds are spent upgrading
equipment that does not last. Most of the
equipment is under warranty but at the moment I
would not care if it was under a truck.
In some good news because of the outstanding
response to advertising in our newsletter we are
now receiving quotes for new play equipment. The
school is putting significant money towards this as I
believe active children learn better because they
are more settled when entering the classroom after breaks. This I believe is especially true of
boys. Another positive is I have finally found an
activity with more complex rules than primary
handball. I was originally going to install the
equipment using local people but legal branch has
informed me that to reduce the risk of litigation
the equipment should be installed by the
manufacturer. The Departmental policy is now
being used as a weight in our gym. This equipment
will happen but it needs to be done properly
because we are looking at a 10 year active life so all
aspects need to be considered. Recently we
received another generous donation from Ag n Vet
Services towards the equipment. People or
companies who do not want to advertise are
welcome to make a donation towards the
equipment. Imagine the smiles on the student’s
faces when they receive new equipment. That is an unashamed attempt to pull at the heart strings of
people.
In the next couple of months the school will have
trades people within the school. We have been
successful in receiving money for the renewal of
the plumbing in our toilets. This will mean at times
sections of the toilets will be closed but it should
not dramatically affect the operations of the
school. Carpets will be either repaired or replaced
in the primary block and the 5/6 room painted. Fencing around the school is in a terrible condition
so sections will be gradually replaced. This is an
expensive exercise above the schools ability to
complete in one funding cycle, so this will have to
be spread across a few years.
At all times it is important that I know who is in
the school. This is why people should always enter
the school through the front office. Trundle is a
very safe town but no parent would want me not
to question adults who enter the school through
side or back entrances. Please do not place yourself in the situation where I have to ask you to
go to the front office to sign in and follow correct
procedures as I have no choice but to follow the
child protection guidelines set by the Department.
Last year the school was very active in the White
Ribbon campaign. I fully intend that the school will
be involved again with the signing of the pledge.
This is a cause very close to my heart. Not because
I grew up in a violent situation but I have over
many years seen the dramatic negative effects of domestic violence on children and families. The
most frightening aspect to me is, many children
have become de-sensitised to violence, consider it
Telephone: (02) 68921303 Fax: (02) 68921184 Email: [email protected] School webpage – www.trundle-c.schools.nsw.edu.au
Page 4 Term 4 Week 3
normal and often become abusers themselves. Recently, I watched a documentary where children
were interviewed about violence in the home.
One little boy made a comment that ‘real men do
not hit women’. Out of the mouths of children often comes the truth. In this child’s eyes he does
care if his father is the best shearer in the district, a
local business or company executive or played
prop for the Dapto Dingos in second division. All
children want males to treat their mother and
family well. In children’s eyes If a man is physically,
sexually or emotionally violent towards women he
cannot call himself a man because all other
achievements are irrelevant. Thankfully the recent
advertisements highlighting domestic violence have
also depicted men in suits involved in physical
violence. Statistics prove income, education or
status does not make some men less violent, it just
pays for better solicitors when these matters go
before the courts and provides more false
credibility to hide what goes on behind those
closed doors.
Another frightening fact I have observed over the
years is the amount of girls, who witness their
mothers being physically and emotionally assaulted,
often choose a partner with the same forms of
behaviour.
Last year I received some complaints suggesting
that people were bullied into signing the pledge. I
do not wish to bully anyone and I do not really
believe I could even if I wanted to. Part of my job is
to protect children so these types of awareness
raising activities go a long way I believe to achieving
this goal. Please sign and return the pledge to help
highlight this massive problem that kills at least one
woman per week in Australia.
On a lighter note. I had the pleasure of attending a
dinner for Andrew Rawsthorne on Saturday night.
Agreeing with Andrew or not, he has put himself
into the spotlight for the benefit of his community,
which is always a risk. It is not always easy because
when you do things and achieve you often become
a gossip topic for the armchair experts in any
community. However, think if you were in the
trenches, who would be alongside you to fight for
Trundle? There would not be many better than
Andrew in terms of drive and passion.
Attending this dinner was a University lecturer
from Newcastle. I asked him to view our school
and talk about the directions of the school. On
Sunday he enquired about a teaching position at
our school. I find this a glowing endorsement of
our school and town as this man is at the cliff face
in terms of teacher education and new directions
in education.

Kindergarten/Year 6 Transition This week will be the second week of
Kindergarten/Year 6 Transition sessions that
will run throughout the term. This year the
sessions will run from 8:55am – 11:20am. This
will allow the Pre-schoolers and Year 6 to
engage in some fantastic activities to ensure the
transition from both Preschool and Primary
School is a smooth and enjoyable experience.
All classes in primary will be moving up into the
next group for these sessions. It is a great way for
the students to practise being in a new class.
PSSA Athletics Well done to Jaxson Whiley, William
Taylor and Kylie Fernando at the
PSSA State Athletics carnival on
Wednesday and Thursday. To
achieve the below results is
outstanding!
Jaxson came 24th in the Senior Primary Boys
Discus, William came 38th in the Junior Boys 200m
and Kylie came 5th in the 13 years Girls 100m heat
and made it into the semi-final. She also achieved a
personal best height in the Senior Girls High Jump.
No Hat No Play Although many children wear their hats all year
this is a gentle reminder that the ‘No Hat, No Play’
rule will be enforced this Term.
Please ensure your child brings a wide brimmed
maroon hat, labelled with their name, to school
every day.
Sipper Bottles All K-6 students are encouraged to
have a sipper bottle containing
water on their desk at all times. This
is especially important in the
warmer months.
Year 3-6 Canberra Excursion
Our excursion to Canberra is coming up in four
weeks. More information will be provided during
Week 4 (26th – 30th October) and in Week 5 we
will host a parent information session on

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Last Tuesday we had our very first transition to
school session in the K/1/2 room. It was lovely to
welcome the students to ‘Big School’. Our transition
program runs every Tuesday from
9.00am – 11.20am for the whole of Term 4.
After watching an interactive story of The Very Hungry
Caterpillar and sequencing the story, the children
made these wonderful artworks.
What talented and creative students. Look forward

JOKE OF THE WEEK
Late one snowy winter evening,
two young children and their
grandmother happen upon a
weak and weary deer while feed-
ing the animals in the forest. To-
gether the children care for the
deer and warm him by the fire
until he is back to health, com-
pletely unaware of the surprise
that awaits them on Christmas
morning!
A secret government depart-
ment, once again, needs the mag-
ical help of Oz and Lily in a des-
perate mission. The children
must travel back in time to the
height of the Blitz. Can they de-
feat some very dangerous super-
natural creatures and save Lon-
don's famous cathedral from de-
struction by fire?
Eleven-year-old Otto wants a dog.
His twelve-year-old perfect sister,
Lexi, wants a cat. Their mother,
who works very long hours as a
nurse, wants neither. Pets are ex-
pensive so who's going to pay for
everything? And what happens to
the pet when the siblings are at
their dad's for the weekend?
Otto has an idea. What if he got a
job and earned enough money to
pay for the dog? Then Lexi has to
open her big mouth. She proposes
that whichever sibling can raise
enough money first will decide
which pet they get. Oddly enough,
their mom and dad agree.

Primary report The 2015-16 season for Trundle primary started
last Saturday at the Trundle Showground against
the Condo Waratahs. The attendance From the Trundle kids was fantastic , so good that we were
able to supply the Waratahs with an extra batsman
for the game.
Our young team went up against an older and well
drilled side and found that though there are a few
skills we should work on, the raw talent is there.
These skills will improve with training as the
season progresses.
Our next game is this Saturday against the Gilgais
at the Condo Soccer fields. If your child is
rostered on for this game then please ensure they
are there by 8.15am. Training is at Berryman oval

Secondary Cricket - Week 1 This weekend we started the long season of
cricket. Our first game of the season was against
Waratahs. Winning the toss, Captain, Brad Watt
elected the bat. At the end of the 30 over’s we had
scored 7-123. We started our fielding
enthusiastically and bowled well. At the end of the
Waratahs 30 over’s they scored 7-123. A very
good game with a drawn result . We would like to
thank Carolyn Watt and Alex Aveyard for scoring
and also Glen Morgan for umpiring.
