THE LATIN AMERICAN PLASTICS INDUSTRYIN NUMBERS

Global plastics consumption could reach 297.5 million tons by 2015, according to Plastics Europe Research Group. From this big number, Mexico represents 1.7% and Latin American countries represent 5%.

The market value of the plastics industry exceeded 22 billion dollars in Mexico, although imports remain very high -11,000 800 million dollars- which is a potential market that can be recovered, either by processors and their suppliers.

In Mexico, during 2012, production of plastics increased 4.8% andconsumption 5.9%. Exports exceeded 1.6 million tons in 2013 and maintained an increasing trend in the last four years.

The Plastic Industry in Peru is going through a good moment and shows a very similar situation to the international average, with a market share of plastic packaging by 27% (ExpoPlast Peru)

The total installed capacity for production of plastic resins was increased in Colombia, from 1.11 million tons in 2009 to 1,160,000 in 2011 mainly due to the expansion of production capacity of propylene polymers, in 50 thousand tons.(ACOPLÁSTICOS)

Our 2015 event will focus on manufacturing via a world-class technical conference program devised to helping production, manufacturing, quality and design engineers become more fexible and competitive. Along with OEM’s, Tier-1/2/3 manufacturers, recognized industry experts and leading technology suppliers, we invite you to be part of the present and future of the thriving, dynamic and world-class Mexican autopart industry.

The plastics industry is facing major challenges: Sustainability is a must, the quick pace of the market demands even quicker responses, value added products are becoming a requirement to prevail in business, and there are potential and vibrant new markets waiting to be explored. In this context, purchasing decisions and technology evaluation needs are complex, and the call for high quality information is on the rise.
