The HPC type Power Capacitor represents areliable and optimized solution for PowerFactor Correction.The output of these capacitors ranges from2.5 kVAr to 30 kVAr.The HPC series is a 3 Phase integratedcapacitor design particularly made for PowerFactor Correction in Commercial & Industrialapplications.These Capacitors feature the use of a uniqueMetallised Polypropylene film as the dielectricto ensure a long working life with low losses.The HPC series are Self healing Capacitors,where the Electrode layer which is a specialmetal alloy is vacuum deposited on to thePolypropylene film dielectric.The 3 Phase Capacitor is internally composedof 3 Single Phase Capacitor windingsassembled in an optimized geometric design.

High PerformanceCapacitors

The electrode of the capacitor i.e.,the special Metal alloy layer isconnected in parallel using a specialpurpose Metal Spraying technology.This special process combined withthe design of the electrode enablesthe capacitor to have high peakcurrent withstand levels.The Capacitor elements areprocessed under high vacuum toeliminate all moisture as well as toimpart the correct level of thermalstability. This is an extremely criticalprocess by which oxidation andpartial discharges can be avoidedduring the working life of thecapacitor and thus ensure bettercapacitance stability.The Capacitor elements areencapsulated in a special purposesynthetic material which ensuresbetter dimensional stability andthermal conduction of heat from theinsides of the capacitor.The entire capacitor assembly ishoused in a extruded cylindricalaluminum case and sealed with aspecial double seaming technology.

The HPC Capacitor technology features atriple safety system i.e.,

• Self healing – this is a process by whichthe Capacitor restores itself in the event ofa fault in the dielectric which can happenduring high overloads, voltage transientsetc.,

• Pressure sensitive disconnector – this isprovided in each phase of the capacitorand enables safe disconnection andelectrical isolation at the end of the life ofthe capacitor.

• Dry technology - this eliminates the risks ofoil leakages which is particularly undesirablewhen the capacitors are used inside cabinetsfor Power Factor Correction.

The HPC Capacitor features the use of a highlyreliable two way termination design involvingthe use of copper and brass terminal clamps.In addition the clamping screws that are usedare of large size to ensure proper torqueapplication on the connecting cable. Thisterminal design has therefore a very long andreliable performance capability in comparisonto conventional termination technologies.

Discharge resistor modules are available in acompletely integrated design which can beeasily fitted on to the capacitor. The terminalof the capacitor also enables multiple capacitorunits to be banked within its permissible currentcarrying capacity.

The HPC series is therefore an optimalcombination of high technology and ergonomicdesign which offers to the customer

The UHPC type Power Capacitorrepresents a high end solution tothe problem of Power FactorCorrection.The output of these capacitors rangesfrom 2.5 kVAr to 50 kVAr.The UHPC series is a 3 phaseintegrated capacitor designparticularly made for Power FactorCorrection and Harmonic filterapplications in Medium and heavyduty Industrial applications.These Capacitors feature the use ofa specially designed Metallisedpolypropylene film as the dielectricto ensure a high working life withvery low losses.The UHPC Series are Self healingCapacitors, where the Electrodelayer which is a special metal alloyis vacuum deposited on to thePolypropylene film dielectric as wellas given a special profile whichenables superior performance interms of withstanding overloads andvery high peak currents.

The 3 Phase Capacitor is internally composedof 3 Single Phase Capacitor windingsassembled in an optimized geometric design.The Capacitor elements are processed undera special high vacuum process which involvesthe removal of moisture and any other gasesfollowed by vacuum impregnation of thecapacitor by a special gas which is non PCBand non SF6 type.This vacuum impregnation process is criticalfor• ensuring high capacitance stability• elimination of partial discharges• consistent chemical stability of the electrode

and the dielectricThe Capacitor elements are coated with aspecial purpose synthetic substance whichensures that the effects of impregnation areretained throughout the working life of thecapacitor.The entire capacitor assembly is housed in aextruded cylindrical aluminum case and sealedwith a special double seaming technology.The dimensioning of the capacitor allows forsuperior heat conduction particularly from thetop part of the capacitor. This is a criticalaspect to ensure lower temperature rise andthereby, improve the working life of thecapacitor.

MULTIMESS-Basic

is an electronic network measuringdevice to measure and monitor allimportant measuring values in the three-phase rotary current network. The devicereplaces all analogous measuringdevices used in standard low-voltagedistributions and additionally offers amultitude of additional measuringfunctions.

Besides the extreme value memory,which stores both a minimum andmaximum value for each measuringvalue (similar to a maximum pointer),the device disposes of a long-termmemory as well as several in- andoutputs. Two relays serve to monitorupper and lower limit values, which canbe programmed separately for eachmeasuring value.

All parameters can be transferred viathe KBR energy bus and further editedby means of MULTIWIN or Visual Energyfor Windows®.

Features

BK06/12are 4-quadrant reactive power controllers with 6 or 12 relay outputsto control capacitor contactors or thyristor modules.In this series, a complex switching logic makes it possible to operatemodern thyristor modules together with usual compensation modules,switched by air break contactors.All stages have a manual – 0 – automatic operation. The stage poweras well as their respective idle periods for discharging the capacitorsare freely programmable for each stage.

Besides its main function, i.e. to adjust the facility to set target cosϕby means of the existing compensated power, the BK series disposesof a number of important safety and convenience functions.

The network analysis and limit value monitoring function e.g. protectsthe capacitors from overvoltage, overcurrent and excessive harmonicload. The integrated temperature control input additionally monitorsthe ambient temperature in the compensation facility, switching on thefan if the set temperature limit is exceeded.

If one of the above-named critical parameters exceeds the programmedlimit value, which triggers an emergency shutdown, the controller willsuccessively cut off the devices from the mains.

The integrated adaptive mode is one of the most important conveniencefunctions. The controller determines the exact compensation power ofeach stage via a so-called induced current transformer, which acquiresthe current of the compensation facility feeder. By this, the controlleritself programs the stage powers, which drastically accelerates start-up. If any errors lead to a reduction in the power of the devices, theprogrammed stage power will be corrected.

The controller is configured via menus by means of four keys and isprotected from unauthorized access by a password.

BK12-Basic disposes of an additional interface to connectthe KBR Energy Bus, enabling an easy configuration via your PC.Besides the instantaneous measuring values, you can also read theirrespective extreme values including time and date, as well as theinstantaneous stage conditions.

As an alternative, the interface can be used to connect an analogoutput device or a remote indication.

Three-Phase Filter Reactors

The increasing use of modern power electronicdevices such as drives, UPS etc. produce non-linear current influences and load the networkwith harmonics.

Power factor correction can form a resonantcircuit in conjunction with the feedingtransformer. The selfresonant frequency ofthe circuit lies typically between 250 and500 Hz, i.e. in the region of the 5th and 7th

harmonic.Resonance can lead to the followingundesirable effects:

– overloading of capacitors– overloading of transformers and transmission

equipment– amplification of harmonics– voltage distortion– interferences with metering and control

systems, PCs and electrical equipment

These effects can be avoided by connectingcapacitors in series with filter reactors. Detunedsystems are designed in order to keep the self-resonant frequency below the lowest lineharmonic. The detuned PFC system is inductivefor harmonics above this frequency. The detunedsystem acts capacitively, thus correcting thereactive poser.
