A husband was advised by his psychi-atrist to assert himself. "You don'thave to let your wife henpeck you. Gohome and show her you're the boss."The man was on fire with enthusiasmand couldn't wait to try the doctor'sadvice! He rushed home, slammed thedoor, shook his fist in his wife's face, and growled, "From now on, you'retaking orders from me. I want mysupper right now, and when you get iton the table, go upstairs, and lay outmy best clothes. Tonight, I'm goingout with the boys and you're going tostay home where you belong. Andanother thing...you know who's goingto comb my hair, iron my pants, pol-ish my shoes and tie my tie?""I certainly do," said his wife calmly,"The undertaker."
Two young boys were spending thenight at their grandparents the weekbefore Christmas. At bedtime, the twoboys knelt beside their beds to saytheir prayers when the youngest onebegan praying at the top of his lungs."I PRAY FOR A NEW BICYCLE...""I PRAY FOR A NEW NINTEN-DO...""I PRAY FOR A NEW VCR..."His older brother leaned over andnudged the younger brother and said,"Why are you shouting your prayers?God isn't deaf."To which the little brother replied,"No, but Granny is!"
A husband and wife came for counsel-ing after 15 years of marriage. When asked what the problem was,the wife went into a passionate, pain-ful tirade listing every problem theyhad ever had in the 15years they had been married. She went on and on and on: neglect, lack of intimacy, emptiness, loneli-ness, feeling unloved and unlovable,an entire laundry list of unmet needsshe had endured over the course oftheir marriage. Finally, after allowing this to go onfor a sufficient length of time, thetherapist got up, walked around thedesk and, after asking the wife tostand, embraced and kissed her pas-sionately as her husband watched witha raised eyebrow.
The woman shut up and quietly satdown as though in a daze. The therapist turned to the husbandand said, 'This is what your wifeneeds at least three times a week. Canyou do this?'The husband thought for a momentand replied, 'Well, I can drop her offhere on Mondays and Wednesdays, but on Fridays, I golf.'
A young man called his mother andannounced excitedly that he had justmet the woman of his dreams. Nowwhat should he do?His mother had an idea: "Why don'tyou send her flowers, and on the cardinvite her to your apartment for ahome- cooked meal?"He thought this was a great strategy, and arranged a date for a week later. His mother called the day after thebig date to see how things had gone."The evening was a disaster," hemoaned."Why, didn't she come over?" askedhis mother."Oh, she came over, but she refusedto cook...."
A policeman stops a lady and asksfor her license. He says "Lady, itsays here that you should be wearingglasses."The woman answered "Well, I havecontacts."The policeman replied "I don't carewho you know! You're getting aticket!"
Little Johnny watched, fascinated, ashis mother gently rubbed cold creamon her face."Why are you rubbing cold cream onyour face, Mommy?" he asked."To make myself beautiful," said hismother.A few minutes later, she began re-moving the cream with a tissue."What's the matter?" asked LittleJohnny. "Giving up?"

There are some names that are justiconic in the world of Irish entertainment. Oneof these is the Lambert Puppet Theatre. TheSource is delighted to announce that they willbe bringing their special magic to the venue onSunday 24th October with their unique take onthe children’s classic, Cinderella. Born out of founder member Eu-gene Lambert’s love of puppets, this interna-tionally renowned company has beenenchanting children for many years. Many gen-erations of us grew up with the Lambert pup-pets as part of our everyday lives on RTE, inprogrammes such as Wanderly Wagon andBosco. In fact you can almost define genera-
tions based on which of these classic series’ aretheir favourites. The Lambert Puppet TheatreCompany is very much a family affair withPaula (the voice of Bosco) taking over the reinsfrom her father in recent years and keeping thisinstitution alive. his visit to Thurles sees them tak-ing on the story of Cinderella and giving it theclassic Lamberts twist. So be prepared to cheerthe goodies and boo the baddies as audienceparticipation will most definitely be called forand demanded. The Boland family are from theparish of Silvermines. Both Ray(Dad) and Olive (Mum) grew upin the Silvermines / Nenagh areaand decided that their five chil-dren Sandra (age 8), Kayleigh(age 6), Aimee (age 5), Aaron(age 4) and little Josh (age 2)would grow up and go to schoolin the parish of Silvermines.
A few years ago Ray developedcancer but battled through it andthe treatment, to come out theother side and into remission. Un-fortunately the cancer cost himhis occupation at the time, andsoon after he started to recoverhis wife Olive developed a severespinal problem brought on as aresult of an occupational injury.
On the 14th of May 2010, OliveBoland at the young age of 37
years, suddenly passed awayfrom what is believed to havebeen a heart attack, leaving herdevoted husband Ray and her fivebeautiful children behind.
Ray is currently doing a fantasticjob of raising 5 children all underthe age of 9 years on his own.(Can you imagine for a second, how you would cope in that situa-tion)Ray & Olives relatives & friendshelp wherever and whenever theycan, but it is clear that all RayBoland’s time is now spent rear-ing, educating and playing withhis children.
The Boland children have losttheir Mammy but are blessedwith a wonderful devoted Dad.There is no option for Ray to re-sume a place in the work-force as
he needs to be with his childrenthrough their tender years, andtherefore he is now dependant onstate benefit. In order to ensurethere is funding for the Bolandchildren’s education into the fu-ture we have decided to set up atrust fund.
We are planning a number ofevents in the next few months totry fundraise for the trust fund, the first being planned for the22nd October, a benefit night atHickeys Bar in Silvermines Vil-lage.

U 8s The u 8s traveled to Kilcolemanon Sunday and played two gamesagainst the home team. The standard ofskills on show from both teams augerswell for the future of both clubs. After-wards they received refreshments andmedals and we would like to thankBurgess for their hospitality. The endof year party for the u 8s will be heldin Jump n Gyms next Friday October22nd from 5 to 7 pmU10s The u 10s finished their seasonlast Friday with a party in FunworldLimerick and a great night was had byall.U14s The season has now come to anend but it was another good year forthe u14s reaching two county finalswinning one against Moneygall in theB league final. They lost only onecompetitive match in the whole seasonwhich was the championship countyfinal against Thurles after a mammothstruggle. Four of the Girls played onthe Tipperary under 14 County team (athank you to our own Mike Ryan whowas involved with the County Coach-ing team), while others played on theTipperary primary school teams. Theteam next year will be strengthened bythe fact that over half of this yearsteam are young enough to play u 14again next year added to our the flowof girls from our County final winningu 12 team. A big thank you to all thegirls who trained very hard and lis-tened attentively to their coaches whowere Mike Ryan Liam McGrath TonySlattery Philip Ryan Mairead Long andDenise Morris a big thank you to thecoaching team who put in a huge effortwith the team.U 16s The under 16s finished the sea-son on a high by winning the Cis Corc-oran Tournament ( the late CisCorcoran was known as the Queen of
Kildare Camogie)in Naas without con-ceding a single score in 4 matches.Due to other commitments we traveledwith a very young squad with only 4 u16s with the rest of the panel made upof u14s and u12s. This did not deterthe girls who defeated Naobh Fionbar-ra ( Dublin) O Loughlin Gaels ( Kil-kenny) Dunderry ( Meath) and Naas inthe final. This very young team gaveaway a lot in size but it was their skilllevels that shone through scoring 27-10 in the four games and concedingnothing. Team captain Gemma Morrispicked up the Cis Corcoran trophy forher team. We would like to thank NaasCamogie club for their hospitality andalso Ger Morris Philip Ryan and Kath-leen McKenna for giving up their timeon Saturday to travel with the team.Squad S Quigley H O Brien G O BrienS O Connor D Harrington C O BrienA Morris P Ryan C Ryan M Collins MMcKenna A Darcy Z Gratton C Cur-ran A Long A Dillon L Darcy R Ma-her C O Connor G Morris.U 18s The u 18s played their secondgame of their season against Moneyg-all on Sunday in Moneygall and cameaway with a heavy defeat. These are enormously powerful weap-ons because the oppressive sense ofongoing threat interferes with thesurvivor’s ability to move on and enjoylife. The abuser gets enjoyment fromthem, and it takes courage to cope withthem. Survivors should be aware thatthe abuser has specific goals behindstalking and harassment, and it is im-portant to understand these. They areas follows:∙ To isolate and discredit the survivor. You will already have seen thatisolation is a basic strategy of abusers. The survivor may already have beenisolated, and because the abuser is incontact with other people to a greaterextent he/she may have greater credi-bility. The abuser is more likely tohave the loyalty and sympathy of oth-ers in the event of a break up.∙ To be perceived as a victim to gainsympathy. Abusers often express sor-row to the outside world about abreakup and so elicit the support andsympathy of others.∙ To be perceived as a ‘good guy’,and render ongoing abuse unbelieva-ble. Some abusers are able to turn onthe charm for others (while reservingtheir anger for the survivor). They canportray themselves as affable and kind, and others do not suspect them of be-ing abusers.∙ To retain and continue to use opportunities to punish and control the survi-vor. The abuser misses the manyopportunities he/she had when the rela-tionship was intact to abuse the survi-vor and release tension. Since abuse isbased on power and control the abuseris unwilling to let this power and con-trol go.∙ To prevent the survivor from moving on and developing a new life. Theabuser wants the survivor to remain inhis control, and any effort to move on,and perhaps develop a new relationshipenrages him/her. This is what makesleaving an abuser so dangerous. Stalk-ing destabilises the survivor, leavinghim/her exhausted and depressed, andunable to move on.∙ To enlist others in inflicting punishment on the survivor. Since the survi-vor is more than likely isolated, theabuser may be able to get others tocondemn him/her. The abuser’s friendsmay be uncomfortable in the presence
of complaints by the survivor and mayshun him/her. This is very likely tohappen in the case of the abuser’s fam-ily, who may take part in the denial ofany abuse.
Yet, survivors are not without powerwhen dealing with stalking and harass-ment. This behaviour should be report-ed to the gardai, although this is notvery effective. After all a person is en-titled to attend events in which theirchildren are taking part. Nevertheless, research shows that being confrontedby a policeman can deter some abusers.A safety plan involving some of thepoints made above is also important.Perhaps the most important way tocounteract stalking and harassment isnot to react. This is easier said thandone, but any reaction by the survivorgives the abuser satisfaction. The sur-vivor knows the abuser better than any-one else, and so can devise anappropriate plan to deal with them. Set-ting physical boundaries as shownabove is important, but the survivorshould also develop internal bounda-ries. By this I mean survivors shouldbe aware of the buttons that abuserscan push, and should learn to discon-nect from them. This requires practiseand effort. Changing internal bounda-ries also means directing energy awayfrom negative thoughts such as bitter-ness, resentment, anger and vengeance.Otherwise the survivor becomes likethe abuser, and nothing gives an abusermore pleasure thanto see the survivorgripped by nega-tive, tormentingfeelings.
