Dejean fled the scene but was apprehended the next day on Monday, May 22, following a traffic stop made by Jefferson Par-ish deputies on the West Bank.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office in getting a search warrant for Dejean’s car, which resulted in Dejean also being booked with possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance. A .40 caliber glock handgun, believed to be used in the shooting, also was recovered. The New Orleans Police Department also assist-ed in Dejean’s apprehension.

Dejean was transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked. He is being held in lieu of $200,000 bond.

5th grade DARE essay winners at W. Smith

Lacoste Elementary’s Terrific Kids for April

W. Smith’s Drama Club presented “Snow and the Eight Dwarfs”

Andrew Jackson 6th graders visit LIGO

St. Bernard Reading Council recognizes St. Bernard Public School students

Our 5th grade students graduated from the DARE program on May 10, 2017, lead by Lieutenant Jackson and Sergeant Miller. Attached is the picture of our DARE essay winners with Sgt. Miller and Sheriff Pohlmann. The students from left to right, Ronald Mott, Paris Leonard, Ja’maia Brown, Cash Williams, Rodney Demolle, and Jeremiah Davis.

Lacoste Elementary School is proud to announce the Terrific Kids for the Month of April. Congratulations to all of our Bulldogs! We are proud of you!

W. Smith’s Drama Club presented “Snow and the Eight Dwarfs” at school on May 18. It was a play about how beauty comes from the inside and shines through by using kind words and manners. These “Superstars” worked tirelessly to memorize their lines and deliver a very entertaining show. Hats off to drama teacher, Cherlyn Luna, for all of her hard work and dedication to the group.

Ms. Sophie Crook was able to take Andrew Jackson’s 6th grade students to LIGO, Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory, in Livingston, LA. LIGO is a real science re-search facility where they are carrying out experiments to detect waves that pass through the earth from colliding black holes out in space. At LIGO, students were able to see where the LIGO scientists do their research and take a tour of the facility. The best part for the students was getting to explore in the exhibit hall with 30 or 40 different activities that connected to what they learned in class. Overall, the field trip was a great experience for students to play with science and see it happen in real life. See more photos online at www.thestbernardnews.com.

The St. Bernard Reading Council led by Mrs. Natalie Albers, Assistant Principal at Lacoste Elementary, recognized several St. Bernard Public School students who won overall within the district for their writings. She was very excited to announce that there were 11 students from St. Bernard who were recognized as a State Winner for the 2016-2017 School Year. See more photos online at www.thestbernardnews.com.
